Chapter 77: Duel Club
Dean Thomas's first year at Hogwarts changed his life. He found his father's identity, and his legacy and made a promise to himself. He will follow his father's footsteps and become the best Auror in future.
His friend, Neville gave him the idea of creating a Duel club and this year he waited until he figured out the complete process of establishing one at Hogwarts.
"Neville, I got the application here. Everything is ready. Will you come with me?" Dean asked Neville.
"Sure. I think only if there are a large number of students Professor Flitwick will consider this seriously. After all, no one made a duel club before at Hogwarts.
I think we need to gather our friends and students who are interested in this. Only after that, we can approach the professor." Neville replied after thinking.
Dean felt it made a lot of sense and hence in the next week, both he and Neville approached many students with this idea and got more than 50 club participants. This number was way above their expectations because they forgot to consider the impact of last year's disaster in Hogwarts.
Last year, students had no other option but to run and hide and they had no powerful spells or good tricks to escape. This made them eager to participate in this club. With the promise of the club being led by Professor Flitwick, a master duellist who has earned the title of "Duelling Champion", the high rate of joining was a given fact.
After a week of waiting, Dean approached Professor Flitwick with Neville after the class.
"Professor?!" Dean's voice attracted the attention of Professor Flitwick.
"Yes, Dean?" Professor asked patiently.
"Professor, we heard you were a master duellist before you joined Hogwarts. Is that true?" Dean purposely twisted his words to make the conversation flow easily. Approaching Professor Flitwick directly might not be a good idea, after all, most of the professors have more than one club under them and their time is really limited.
"HO HO HO. Yes. Those were the good day Dean. You must have seen the trophies in my class. Yes, those represent the honour of a master duellist." Professor replied while stroking his perfectly trimmed moustache.
The saviour had a bad start this year and after the first day, he was punished by cleaning toilets and the trophy room with Ron. Then Hagrid left Hogwarts which made him feel like he lost his friend.
To make matters worse, this year Hermione was busy with new friends and hardly had time to help them with their homework. Now the only good thing about this year is Quidditch but its practice is also a painful process.
Thankfully this news from Ron finally brought some long-lost happiness to him.
"Duel Club?" Harry enquired.
"Yes! Neville and Dean talked to Professor Flitwick, and he agreed on the idea. Now, there is a notice put on the wall. We should find Dean and register for it before Sunday."
Harry's eyes had a sparkle, and he ran with Ron to check the notice board and confirm the news.
In a few days, Neville and Dean received no less than 90 applications. Different years, Different houses and too many things needed to be sorted out. So, the boys roped in the three strange girls and another friend Seamus.
They were able to sort out the applications and hand them over to the professor for the next step. Professor Flitwick selected the best students from each year from the charm club and made them the representative for their respective years.
This even included the prefects and head boy and girl. In this way, the first Duel club was formally established in Hogwarts with great enthusiasm and some happy tears from our emotional professor Flitwick.
