"It's too quiet... And where are all the villagers we saw playing and talking to each other not long ago...?"
Azmodeus scanned his surroundings and saw nothing other than vacant buildings and stores that looked like everyone had moved out overnight.
"This place is not normal... There is something ominous lurking inside the core of this Village..."
For the first time in a while, Pan Nu put on a perceptive expression, setting aside her yearning for treats right now.
And she wasn't the only one who suddenly became serious, as Pumpkin Wolfy had her fur stand on end, glaring at all the empty shops with a cautious gleam in her eyes.
"Something is putting Pumpkin Wolfy on edge... But what...? What is it that gives me such a bad feeling about this village...?"
Azmodeus sent out his severely limited divine sense and discovered that all the villagers had seemingly vanished...
And with all of his energy-related aspects of existence restricted by the Laws of the Astral Plane, there was nothing much he could do besides go about investigating the old-fashioned way.
"It looks like we need to make a little side stop before going to that sweets shop, Pan Nu," he softly murmured while looking at a few sets of tracks on the loose, sandy side paths, all of which led in the same direction.
"...I can hold off for now... I will try to manage..." Pan Nu spoke with a strained voice while taking out snacks that she kept inside her storage ring for emergency situations just like this one.
Azmodeus listened to the ridiculous words uttered by the silly girl sitting on his shoulders as he ignored her antics and started following the tracks.
...
After a few seconds of trailing behind the dozens of tracks all leading in the same direction, Azmodeus was greeted with the sight of a large, rundown black church that just screamed 'creepy as hell'.
But it wasn't like he feared ghosts or devils, so he walked under the crickety gates that led to the church, as he saw a few crows cacaw from atop the dead trees they were perched upon.
"This place is definitely no good..." Pan Nu mumbled while gripping her horsie's head even tighter than before, trying her best not to let fear show in her expression.
"...Are you okay to keep on going forward...?" Azmodeus inquired while stopping at the two dilapidated iron doors of the equally austere church.
Pan Nu gripped his soft crimson hair until her hands got lost in the strands, as she mutely muttered, "I'm not a baby! I can take something as stupid as th-"
CREACK! WHAM!
"Hungry!! Meat!!" The creature shrieked while its mouth opened wide enough to devour the slenderman whole.
However, before the creature's razor-sharp teeth touched the decrepit figure in front of it, a slimy black hand stabbed into the monster's side, spinning around inside its innards before taking out a beating red heart.
"Here... eat." The slenderman took the heart and stuffed it in the gaping mouth in front of him.
POP!
*Spurt!*
The moment the heart touched the mouth of the creature, its monstrous body exploded into a big pile of meat chunks, decorating the walls of this dark space a deep crimson red!
"...It looks like you weren't hungry enough..."
Following the grating voice of the faceless black slenderman, he took his long, thin fingers and pointed them at a few more glowing sets of eyes.
All these eyes popped up from inside the swampy area of the deepest levels of the Dimsinion Church.
"..." "..." "..."
Creatures—very similar to the one that had its heart ripped out—stared at the significantly taller organism as they retreated back into the swamp, disappearing into the murky water that filled most of the basement floor.
"If all of you are hungry, then go and catch this human and his companions. I have no need for a human at this moment, so you may do whatever you want... But if you interrupt my experiments again... well, I might just..."
The atmosphere within the swampy region, centered around a floating mobile lab, intensified as the swamp started to violently shake, resulting in tremors spreading out for hundreds of miles beneath the ground.
"I will not tolerate any more interruptions..."
Following the non-negotiable voice of the black slenderman, he slid over to a wide assortment of vials and glass objects, getting right to work as he poured and swished around a few vials with mysterious substances within them.
"..." "..." "..."
Even though the nightmarish creatures were extremely simple-minded and only thought with their stomachs, they knew when not to test their luck, and when it came to the Chief, he gruesomely murdered on a moment's notice.
So, in the end, they swam away from the floating lab and headed for where they smelt fresh human blood, intense avarice visible in their savage gazes.
