Chapter 38 The Beginning Of The Story

Name:Inside an Incomplete Novel Author:
At present, no one has discovered a way to predict the sudden appearance of portals that lead to the outermost level of Hell.

A place where devils of varying ranks reside, Hell is divided into four distinct circles, each with its own unique characteristics and inhabitants.

The outermost circle, the first of the four, is inhabited by lower-ranked devils who prey on vulnerable individuals by luring them into submitting to their desires and surrendering their souls to them.

Moving inwards, the third circle - located adjacent to the fourth - is home to devils with far superior intelligence and power.

However, these beings failed to attain a humanoid stature, which resulted in their classification as failures of the second circle.

In contrast, the noble and royal devils that barely step out of the first circle are considered the most powerful beings in Hell.

Not only do they resemble humans, but they are also far more beautiful than any mortal being.

"We'll be taking an hour-long break now that the academic session is complete. As announced yesterday, you kids will have the opportunity to step into a portal. Read through the instructions on the notice board again if you have to. Now disperse," said Mun-Hee, our homeroom teacher.

She packed up her stuff in the storage ring and walked out of the class, leaving the students murmuring.

"This will be my first time ever entering a portal," exclaimed Sun-Jung, who was seated beside me.

"Same here. I'm a bit nervous. What if any problems occur?" said Ji-Ho, sitting on the bench next to Stella.

"There's no way. Didn't you see? We'll have five S-ranked teachers to help us during the expedition," replied Stella.

"And she's wrong because the first event of the novel starts now," I thought.

"Hey, Kael, why do you stay so quiet all the time? We're not strangers, so feel free to express your emotions. There's no point in putting on airs. Every kid here has a barbarian side," said Ji-Ho, as she looked me in the eyes.

"I appreciate your concern, but I prefer to listen rather than speak. It allows me to observe and better understand those around me," I replied, offering a small smile.

As I walked out, I thought, 'Same, I don't understand you, still', while standing up and leaving the classroom.

In order to progress the plot and reach a satisfying conclusion, a story requires a multitude of events, no matter how minor, with the first event being of the utmost importance.

This story begins scrupulously, with a prologue that depicts a group of children playing in a garden, some distance away from their homes, when a portal suddenly appears.

Out of the portal steps one of the most astonishing-looking humans they had ever seen, who proceeds to devour the pitiful lives of the children, leaving only the protagonist alive.

The novel is centred around the protagonist seeking revenge for the deaths of his childhood friends and features cliches, plot armour, and a progressive approach to power. However, the novel remains incomplete.

The most surprising twist in the story is that the first event, which originally occurred in the fourth chapter, takes a fabulous turn.

The protagonist not only has a cheat to achieve his goals but he is also reincarnated. Although his memories are not yet awakened, they will be unlocked when he returns from the portal. In a dream he has that night, he will break through his constraints and receive all his memories as if he had lived them in reality.

He wasn't a playboy, nor a foolish person who met a senseless death. In the year 2083, he was governor of California, a man of power and responsibility. His wife, like any other protagonist's spouse, cheated on him, but he didn't indulge in self-pity or seek revenge against her or her family.

He accepted his mistake of choosing the wrong person and moved on with his life. Unfortunately, his life ended in World War III.

He gave his life to protect a woman and her newborn from being violated by the brutal soldiers of an enemy country.

However, the allure of reincarnation and the possibility of a second chance corrupted him. He became greedy and overconfident, and his morals slowly faded away.

The only thing that remained was the plot - the driving force behind his life's story.

As I entered the dorm, a familiar voice greeted me with, "Welcome home, Sugar."

I was surprised to see a clean room, which was unusual for my roommates. Making my way to the kitchen, I found Remi standing on the slab near the gas stove, putting spices in the frying pan as Ruby guided her. Both were wearing aprons.

I looked at them in confusion, then asked, "What's going on?"

"In thirty minutes, we will leave for the portal, and you're cooking food. Who's going to eat that?" I questioned.

Ruby gave me a perplexed expression and pointed at Remi. "I'm teaching her to make a meal for herself, and this is hers."

"Sigh..." I let out a sigh and muttered, "That's a next-level insult," before turning around. I could hear both of them giggling clearly.

[Time: 19:00]

After a thirty-minute break and my instructions for Remi to behave and not leave the dorm or open the door, Ruby packed her things in a storage ring and left with me.

"It's funny," Ruby said, walking alongside me and looking down as if lost in thought. "This is my first time entering a portal but not my first time entering Hell."

"You're missing the detail that a devil queen herself is about to slaughter devils," I pointed out.

"I don't have any attachment to them. I wouldn't care if all the devils are slaughtered," she replied with a shrug, then added in a suggestive tone, "as long as I'm with you."

"Commendable approach, but that trick won't work until you complete the task assigned," I responded.

As we walked silently to the auditorium, the girl glared at me and said, "Tch…", "Trust me, the day I find out who you are, I'll suck you dry for a lifetime".

Inside the auditorium, I noticed that some changes had been made. There were no seats anymore, and the floor was now covered with a large rune responsible for teleporting cadets near the portal.

All the first-year sections had gathered there, and it was clear that many of the students had less than noble motives.

Instead of learning something new or fighting for survival, most seemed focused on taking their grudges into the portal.

Some had their eyes on the girls, and even Ruby was now a target for some groups. Well, good luck with that.

Five teachers stepped inside the auditorium and faced the students as they stood on the podium, "Good Evening everyone, we won't say much, as you already know the risks of the portal, but remember, if any of you is caught indulging in unethical activity, you won't get a warning but a death sentence"

As the teachers finished their warning, the auditorium fell silent. Soon, the large rune on the floor began to glow in a red hue. In the blink of an eye, we found ourselves standing on top of a hill, the same rune now embedded in the ground beneath us.

So, The previous events in my life were merely a glimpse of what's to come. Things are going to get kinky from now on.

'Bon voyage'
