TL: Moonlit
Because subconsciously remembering the current environment is unsafe, Shu Shuishui didn’t fall into a deep sleep. He woke up early the next day.
He still held the 18th hazelnut he counted yesterday in his arms. Shu Shuishui sat up from the bed, yawned widely, turned his little head, and found that Gu Langu was still sleeping beside him.
Shu Shuishui’s small bed was placed on the bedside table next to Gu Langu’s bed, within reach of Gu Langu’s hand.
He recounted the hazelnuts he counted last night one by one, then put them back into the spiritual storage. Hazelnuts were the favorite food of hazel dormice, so when Shu Shuishui was on Earth, he chose to settle in a hazelnut forest. It was because he was in the hazelnut forest that Shu Shuishui didn’t store too many hazelnuts in the spiritual storage.
One could say that each hazelnut selected by Shu Shuishui and placed in the spiritual storage was a ‘love at first sight’. The hazelnuts were exceptional to him, even though they may not have meant much to others. But for Shu Shuishui, not even a diamond could match the value of his own hazelnut.
Shu Shuishui had been tired from counting hazelnuts yesterday, and now that he was awake, he realized that the extra hazelnut must have been the one he gave to Gu Langu. Shu Shuishui felt a little embarrassed, so he affectionately stroked the 18th hazelnut he was holding and gave it a kiss.
The distance between the bedside table and the bed was very short, and Gu Langu had quietly moved over yesterday.
Therefore, Shu Shuishui stepped on the bedside table, then with an easy run and a leap, the mouse jumped lightly onto Gu Langu’s bed.
Gu Langu was already awake but had remained motionless out of curiosity about how the little dormouse would react while he was asleep. With his eyes closed, he suddenly felt a slight weight on the bed beside him, followed by two light bounces.
Then, a little dormouse walked over, step by step, leaving little pits on the bed without disturbing Gu Langu’s breathing. However, Shu Shuishui didn’t notice that Gu Langu was already awake and continued to make little pits on the bed before reaching the edge of Gu Langu’s pillow.
Once again, he rubbed his perfect hazelnut against his cheek and quietly extended his paw to slightly lift the edge of Gu Langu’s pillow. Then, he bent his small body and pushed the 18th hazelnut under Gu Langu’s pillow.
Although Gu Langu hadn’t opened his eyes, he clearly sensed Shu Shuishui’s actions. Shu Shuishui returned the hazelnut with his fondness and attachment, then agilely ran back to his small bed, covered himself with a small blanket, and pretended to sleep.
Even before mechanization, Gu Langu had never experienced such tenderness.
Shu Shuishui obviously guessed the origin of the hazelnut and, fearing awkwardness, quietly hid the 18th hazelnut under his own pillow. It was just yesterday that he almost cried while counting hazelnuts.
Gu Langu smirked while lying on the pillow, thinking that if there was such a cute little creature accompanying him every morning, he would be willing to spend time in meaningless hibernation every day.
Gu Langu opened his eyes and it seemed as if he had just woken up, while the dormouse on the opposite bed immediately revealed his signature smile and waved his chubby paw. “Hi, good morning! I just woke up too.”
Caught red-handed by the mouse (^-^)
Gu Langu stretched out his slender arm and used his fingers to stroke Shu Shuishui’s fur. “Good morning, Shuishui.”
Shu Shuishui, being stroked by such good-looking hands early in the morning: ( ̄ˇ ̄)
After getting up, they nurtured their relationship as main pet and owner and went to freshen up together.
Shu Shuishui stood on the edge of the washbasin, took out a small white bottle cap, and when Gu Langu turned on the tap to wash his face, Shu Shuishui tiptoed to catch some water with the bottle cap. He then placed the cap on the white washbasin, squatted down, and began to wash his paws and face.
There was a large mirror on the wall directly opposite the washbasin, allowing Shu Shuishui to see himself clearly. Because he had just woken up, there was a tuft of fur on his right cheek that was slightly unruly and sticking up.
Shu Shuishui used his damp paw to press and smooth it, but the tuft of fur stubbornly remained raised.
Persistently, Shu Shuishui repeatedly tried to flatten the fur on his face, occasionally looking left and right in the mirror. Finally, after almost washing his entire head, Shu Shuishui’s stubborn fur no longer stood up.
Shu Shuishui tilted his little head and exclaimed, “Being furless actually has its advantages.”
Gu Langu replied, “Humans have hair.”
Shu Shuishui wagged his tail. “I have a tail.”
Gu Langu conceded.
A soft small towel wrapped around Shu Shuishui, carefully drying his damp little head.
After the two finished washing up, they went downstairs, where Yu Jin and Nan Ge had already taken a walk outside and brought back breakfast.
Shu Shuishui still had a vivid impression of human food. He eagerly hopped on Gu Langu’s shoulder to express his joy.
Seeing the energetic Shu Shuishui, Yu Jin and Nan Ge felt a sense of relief.
“Shuishui, how did you sleep last night?” Nan Ge smiled as he divided the breakfast into four portions and placed them on the table.
Shu Shuishui tilted his little head. “I slept very well, very comfortable.”
As they casually chatted, the three of them took their seats. Shu Shuishui hopped off Gu Langu’s shoulder and headed towards the remaining portion of breakfast. However, just as he was about to reach the plate, his paw was stopped by a hand—it was Nan Ge’s hand.
Nan Ge smiled and said, “That one is yours, this one is mine, from the south. Remember? I told you yesterday, my little brother.”
Shu Shuishui looked in the direction Nan Ge was pointing and realized he was pointing at Gu Langu. Shu Shuishui walked back to Gu Langu, puzzled. “Should we share one portion?”
Gu Langu gently touched Shu Shuishui’s little head. “You can eat by yourself.”
Shu Shuishui looked confused but still shook his little head. “I don’t want to eat alone.”
Gu Langu looked down at the small dormouse on the table and took out an energy stone from his pocket, then put it directly into his mouth. “I can eat this.”
Shu Shuishui: ⊙▽⊙?
Perhaps sensing Shu Shuishui’s greater confusion, Gu Langu opened his palm, revealing several energy stones. However, they were smaller than the ones he saw last night, only the size of a thumb.
Shu Shuishui picked up an energy stone with his paws, sniffed it, and quickly opened his mouth. Crack! He felt something fall, and when he looked down, he saw a small white tooth.
Shu Shuishui: (⊙⊙)
“It seems like Ah Shui lost a tooth.”
The three of them on the table didn’t expect Shu Shuishui to suddenly bite into the energy stone, so they were all speechless, watching Shu Shuishui holding the energy stone and inspecting his teeth.
Reacting to the situation, Shu Shuishui: (⊙﹏⊙)
“Brother, Brother Yu Jin, Brother Gu Langu, I’m back!” A young and vibrant voice came from outside the door, and a person walked in.
Shu Shuishui glanced up and immediately got scared, dropping the energy stone he was holding and quickly turning around. He squeezed into Gu Langu’s sleeve, struggling with his small hind legs to fit himself inside.
“What’s that? A mouse?” Nan Fang, who had just entered, only saw a blur as it disappeared into Gu Langu’s sleeve. If it weren’t for getting stuck halfway and revealing his round lower body, Nan Fang wouldn’t have seen anything clearly.
Nan Fang’s voice had just fallen when a cat’s meow sounded. The tabby cat that had been obediently in Nan Fang’s arms instantly jumped onto the table and assumed an attacking posture toward Gu Langu’s direction, then pounced quickly.
Gu Langu waved his hand, blocking the cat, and it flew out.
“Hualin!” Nan Fang was startled and quickly went to check on his cat. He found that the cat was still breathing and carefully picked it up again.
Shu Shuishui, who had been looking forward to breakfast, ended up with a series of unexpected incidents. Shu Shuishui was very unhappy, feeling like he was enveloped in a dark cloud. He didn’t come out of Gu Langu’s sleeve for the entire breakfast.
Helpless, Gu Langu carried Shu Shuishui’s portion of breakfast back to the bedroom, while also picking up the tooth Shu Shuishui had dropped.
Nan Fang looked at Nan Ge and Yu Jin, hoping to get an explanation.
Yu Jin sighed softly. “Hualin’s status is probably not secure anymore.”
Nan Fang instinctively held the cat in his arms tightly. Hualin was the only pet in the base and was highly sought after and popular everywhere. Although Gu Langu hadn’t shown any fondness for the cat before, he had never attacked Hualin either. Subconsciously, Nan Fang didn’t like the brown mouse he had just seen.
Shu Shuishui didn’t know what had happened downstairs. He was currently sitting on the bedside table, tilting his head back as Gu Langu examined his teeth.
The little dormouse was well-behaved, not moving at all, and his watery eyes looked expectantly at Gu Langu, hoping that he would really be able to put his teeth back.
Seeing Shu Shuishui like this, Gu Langu felt a slight pang in his heart, a sensation he hadn’t experienced in a long, long time. He paused for a moment, then quickly refocused his attention on Shu Shuishui. “It’s alright, Shuishui, don’t be afraid.”
Shu Shuishui nodded his little head, seemingly trying to add more persuasive power. He even extended his paws and patted his own head to comfort himself. “It’s okay.”
Gu Langu: …how can a mouse be this adorable?
Author’s Note:
Gu Langu: “In order to marry a bride, I can retreat a cat and fix teeth. I’ll strive to become an all-around talent!”
Shu Shuishui: “I’ll work hard to train and defeat Hualin the cat as soon as possible.”
Lao Xuan: “I suddenly had a moment of inspiration yesterday and changed the book’s title. I wonder if my little angels have found their way back home. I’m crying…” I’m worried that they got lost because of the title change, and Lao Xuan became an empty nest author.
