Chapter 6

In the car, Liang Yin looked at each and every topic of discussion on Weibo before she finally understood what Zhou Jianchen was facing after he walked away alone.

First, it was ‘Xu Lili’s ambiguous romantic declaration’ on Weibo then Zhou Jianchen’s respond with the word ‘Ah’, followed by ‘Talent agent denied that Zhou Jianchen currently has a girlfriend’, and next was ‘Zhou Jianchen unexpectedly appearance in the airport’, subsequently ‘Zhou Jianchen was mobbed’ and ‘Zhou Jianchen took a taxi alone’ … all the prior situation and follow-up were completely presented.

Liang Yin felt somewhat astounded. She hadn’t been on Weibo for several days and didn’t expect all these to happen to Zhou Jianchen. Originally, thinking that his sudden appearance and taking the taxi by himself would just trigger a little commotion that would lead to inconvenience but unexpectedly, he actually threw himself into the whirlpool of public opinion by doing so.

How could she not know how big an impact Zhou Jianchen’s first appearance would be after Xu Lili’s romantic declaration.

Her gaze wavered a little watching the video of Zhou Jianchen pushing the baggage cart and smiling at the crowd, then the photos of him leaving the airport, getting in a taxi and closing the door.

She can’t recall clearly what kind of person Zhou Jianchen is. That year, he made a few phone calls to her, sent her several messages and also said some difficult to discern words, but in the end, he was just a stranger who occasionally crossed her paths. Her impression of him is just like everyone else: good acting skills and eccentric. She couldn’t tell why Zhou Jianchen was helping her like this, did he simply not care about these media at all? But at the very beginning, they also made things difficult for the reporters who appeared unexpectedly.

Zhou Jianchen in black was smiling amiably at everybody in the photo, looking approachable and appeared extremely patient. This was something she had never seen from him before.

Liang Yin turned off the cellphone again and looked silently out the window without uttering a word.

There were familiar and unfamiliar landscapes outside the window. Flyovers, densely packed buildings, various kinds of billboards with an unending flow of people and traffic that everything was detached yet overlapped amid her memory.

It was not that she hadn’t been back in these past five years, but she was always in too much of a hurry.

The car continued to speed smoothly on the road and no one spoke.

Originally, Liang Yin didn’t want Zhou Jianchen’s car to send her back but Ah Zhao just pushed the baggage cart all the way to the parking lot then moved it into the car first. The person inside the car was stunned when he saw her but after a brief exchange with Ah Zhao, he smiled and invited her to get in.

Just that no one spoke along the way, except for the occasional keystroke noises made by Ah Zhao and several messages prompts from the driver, Ah Xian’s cellphone, there was no other sound.

Liang Yin might have guessed the reason or perhaps she didn’t, but she took no notice of it. She is used to being quiet, rarely taking the initiative to talk and if others do not speak, she will not open her mouth either.

It was just that this was after all Zhou Jianchen’s car and the smell that belonged to him was not strong but distinct. There was also a cup of coffee on the seat which the driver offered to her but she knew it was intended for Zhou Jianchen.

She didn’t drink it because she eventually felt that she had trespassed into an unfamiliar territory.

In the front passenger seat, Ah Zhao responded to all of Ah Xian’s queries and kept swiping on Weibo. Right now, he realized as well what exactly had happened before. He only brought his own personal cellphone abroad. During the day he followed Zhou Jianchen around and fell asleep once he hit the bed at night, hence he simply had no time to browse what had happened on Weibo and he finally understood why Brother Chen’s mood was bad now.

Yet no matter how bad his mood was, he still disregarded the trouble and appeared in front of the crowd for Film Empress Liang’s sake.

He could have just strode off without any response, but he stayed behind for so long and coped with it patiently regardless of these utmost trouble.

Why?

Perhaps it was merely to let Film Empress Liang have more time to leave unhurriedly.

Ah Zhao seemed to have figured out a lot of things in a flash. Brother Chen has liked Film Empress Liang and he still likes her now.

He wanted very much to ask what Film Empress Liang thought but she was silent all the way. She would smile when he talked to her before. Her voice was faintly soft and looked as if very amiable but inevitably made others feel distant.

The car drive took an hour before it finally arrived at the destination.

It was an apartment building. Although it was in a bustling area, the surroundings were extremely quiet and looked very costly.

“You can just let me off at the entrance.” Liang Yin said seeing the entrance was just in front.

Yet the driver, Ah Xian, merely slowed down and stopped at the entrance before turning around to speak with a smile, “It’s better to send you in, after all it is not convenient for you to drag all the luggage.”

This is a man in his thirties whose name is Cui Mingxian. He has ordinary features and is sturdily tall in stature with a face that has seen much of the world. There was a momentary surprise when he saw Ah Zhao bringing her over but now all seemed to have vanished. His gaze was rather sincere and caused her not able to refuse.

The security is strict and unidentified vehicles are not permitted to enter. As the guard came over to query, Liang Yin had no choice but to comply.

After passing through the strictly guarded entrance, the car entered the underground garage where it finally parked at the elevator’s entrance of Liang Yin’s building.

Ah Xian got out of the car first to open the door for Liang Yin.

“Thank you.” Liang Yin was a little at loss as Ah Xian was too considerate.

“I’ll bring your bags into the elevator.” Ah Xian had already taken the luggage from the trunk for her again.

“Don’t bother, I can do it myself.” Liang Yin said hurriedly.

“It’s okay. It’s just a few steps.” Saying that, he picked up the bags and headed for the elevator. He was so tall and big that the two suitcases in his hands seemed like nothing.

Ah Zhao had carried the other travel bag and kept up too.

Liang Yin could only catch up.

Ah Xian merely placed the suitcases down all the way to the elevator entrance then pressed the elevator button and spoke with a smile, “I will not send you up then.”

“Okay.” Liang Yin nodded, “Thank you for the trouble.”

Ah Xian smiled, “Miss Liang is too courteous.”

Liang Yin was silent for a moment before raising her head and said, “Thank Zhou Jianchen for me too.”

Ah Xian laughed, “I daren’t take this responsibility. It’s better to thank our Brother Chen personally if you want to thank him. Oh yes, do you have our Brother Chen’s number?” Saying that, he actually took out a business card from his pocket and handed it over.

Liang Yin was startled before she could respond and had yet to regain her senses for a long time looking at the business card. She only reached out to take it and thanked him after a while later, “Okay, thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” Ah Xian was still smiling as he replied.

When the elevator arrived, Liang Yin wanted to take the suitcases but Ah Xian had already pushed them in first. Once the luggage was properly placed, they did not come in but simply stood at the door and said with a smile again, “Miss Liang, we will bid our goodbye then.”

“Okay.” Liang Yin nodded her head. Ah Xian waved at her and she also waved back at them with the business card in her hand.

Once the elevator door closed, it gradually ascended. Liang Yin looked down at the business card which was plainly printed with ‘StarLight Media Zhou Jianchen’ and his contact information.

The elevator went straight to the 37th floor and the door opened with a ‘ding’. Regaining her reverie, Liang Yin pushed her luggage out of the elevator.

Unlocking the fingerprint lock, the door opened and a gush of stale air burst over. Liang Yin put her luggage down and walked to the window to pull open the curtains. Once sunlight poured in through the window, the whole cold room just seemed lively again.

There is a boulevard outside the window and another high-rise building in the distance. Here on the 37th floor, everything seems to be in panoramic view.

This is an apartment she bought a long time ago with the remuneration she got from her first and second films. She had lived here for a period of time. She then got married and went abroad, and it was left vacant. She never thought of selling it off since there are still some lingering feelings. Of all her possessions, this is the place that really belongs to her and she can always come back whenever she wants to.

She has entrusted someone to clean it regularly too. Even though it has been so long, the apartment still appears clean and new.

Taking a deep breath, Liang Yin turned around and started to put her things in order.

The business card was left on the table. Glancing at it, she merely unzipped the suitcase again. It was only after she had finished unpacking the suitcase that her gaze unconsciously fell on the business card again.

She finally took out her cellphone to send a short message after pondering for a long time.

— “Hello, this is Liang Yin. Thank you for today.”
