"Berry?" Harry called to her. Unfortunately, she felt like playing deaf at that moment. She honestly did not know what to say. She was caught off-guard and she did not expect those words of hesitation from him. She thought both of them already agreed to being together as a couple? He was even the one who offered marriage so what was he blabbering about right now?
"It's… It's just my opinion. It's still all up to you to decide on it. Whatever you want, I'll just go with the flow," he reassured, seeing the conflicted look on Berry's face. Harry inwardly cursed, hoping Berry would not misinterpret him because he really meant his offer of marriage to her before just that…
A frustrated sigh unconsciously came out his mouth.
Berry shrugged as she murmured, "That's not good. You sound like everything will all just depend on me still. Are you sure about that? Wouldn't it be unfair to you if we just followed what I wanted? I mean, what if I have a different take on our situation than yours?"
There was no response. Berry ended up sighing before continuing, "Just sleep here on the bed, will you? And please stop worrying too much about me. I can handle myself just fine. So what if you can't control yourself? No one is stopping you. For me, love is something you can learn and grow with. As long as you're someone who wouldn't physically and emotionally abuse me, then you're good to go…"
Berry then grabbed Harry and pulled him down to lay with her on the bed.
"Let's sleep now? Shall we?" she whispered, hugging him closely and burying herself in the crook of his neck. She knew she needed to be shameless if she wanted to get this man, who seemed to have no hope in having a relationship with anyone except Kimberly Hansen, to finally choose her instead of wallowing in his self atonement.
She was well aware of Harry's history now. His sister-in-law Kenzie, whom she easily got along with, had answered all of her queries about Harry after knowing that she was someone that Harry would marry soon. And as she heard more of what his story entailed, the more Berry had decided that she truly wanted him. There was more to the fact that Harry was a good catch… She just somehow had this urge of being someone Harry could feel like he was at home with.
"I know that it'll be hard at first, but you need to open up your heart again. They say that time heals all wounds. But in reality, that sounds lame. It's always love that will heal all wounds…" Berry cheesily spoke. "Try opening up your heart for another person's love coming your way. Who knows? I may be that person? Can we… Can we just do this? If we can't learn to love each other in a month, then we'll let each other go…" Berry whispered to his neck.
Harry gulped. He completely understood what Berry was trying to say, but what was really distracting him at the moment was how her body was currently pressing against his; how her hot breath on his skin was affecting his body. He had meant it when he said that Berry had a great effect on him. It honestly surprised him since he never thought that he would ever feel something like this with any woman again.
It was honestly a weird feeling for him since he never felt like this around Kimmy. He felt too comfortable around Kimmy. But looking at it now, wasn't the feeling whenever he was with Berry too much? Was it because he had never been intimate with a woman for far too long?
"You smell nice, and you feel warm," Berry added in her sluggish voice. She was already feeling rather sleepy.
Harry remained quiet, his body stiffening as he concentrated on collecting all of his nerves that seemed to go out of their way to go to random places of all times.
'This is quite hard… I don't know how long I'll last if we continue sleeping together like,' Harry frustratingly mused to himself.
He was sure that Berry was sleeping already with her soft and slow breathing. Harry gulped as he carefully moved to try and remove Berry's arms around him. At his attempts however, she only moved to snuggle him closer, her hug only getting tighter
"Berry?" he whispered, making sure if she was really sleeping.
"Huh?" she sleepily replied, opening her sheepish eyes as she murmured. "What is it?"
Harry moved sideways to face her. Her eyes were now fully open, staring right at Harry's own.
"I thought you're already sleeping?" Harry whispered.
"Yeah… I'm close to dozing off, but not anymore, I guess," Berry mumbled out with a pout, meeting his gaze.
Harry had an awkward smile as he asked, "Why me? I mean, why would you risk yourself with me like this?"
"Why are you even asking the obvious? Can't you see that you have the complete package that every woman would ever want? You're handsome and rich. Not to mention that you don't have any sort of bad reputation with any woman," Berry straightforwardly answered with a grin.
"But I have a horrendous past…" Harry opened up.
Berry sighed then she gently touched Harry's face, caressing his cheek with her palm, "It's called the past, right? Didn't you already put all your past behind you to strive to be the better person that you are now? So what about the past? Does that even matter? I don't think so… What matters now is the present and the future you! Everybody had a past. Like me… I once had a playgirl reputation since I went from one boyfriend to another like they're going out of style. That was me before I crossed paths with you. And I really hope that you could be my dead-end," she boldly declared with a smile, making Harry's face blush with embarrassment.
"Why are you blushing? Did I just make your heart flutter?" Berry teasingly scoffed.
"No wonder you managed to play with so many men. You're good with words," Harry replied.
"I'll take that as a compliment. But seriously, I believe that the one-night stand we had happened for a reason. I'm honestly still frustrated about it…" Berry confessed with a pout.
"Why?" Harry curiously asked.
"That was my first time, but I can't remember anything about it," she murmured.
Harry's face flushed even further. He already had a good recollection of what happened that night. He had thoroughly enjoyed that night, and Berry was a virgin so he wanted to take responsibility for her, especially if she ended up bearing his baby. And even if she didn't end up getting pregnant, he still wanted to take responsibility for his action, hence the reason why he instantly offered for her hand in marriage.
However, as the days passed by, he realized that his decision might've been somewhat unfair to her. What if they got married in a flash and Berry suddenly realized that he wasn't the man that she wanted to be with for the rest of her life? Destroying someone's future like that would be the last thing that Harry wanted.
