Chapter 454 The Battle of the Four Races, part 1/?
POV Some Demon-worshipping Cultist:
Everything was silent and dark. The black-hooded cultists and massive metal cauldrons stood motionlessly around a deep and dark pit in the ground. It was so deep they couldn't even see to its bottom, only the darkness.
"Begin!" The deep voice of the terrifying beast hidden somewhere in the distance made them move.
'Those beasts... however, to please our dark master, we must cooperate with them.' The cultist, Bob, shuddered while ignoring the reptilian eyes watching his movements from every direction. The beasts were everywhere.
"Pour the blood!" At once, the cultist cut the wooden supports, and the massive cauldrons tilted—the blood of hundreds of butchered animals and the prisoners poured into the pit.
With zeal and excitement, the demon cultists watched, their hands trembling in the excitement as this was what they always wanted to accomplish it.
"Come, we invite you, the dark king!"
A huge droplet of golden liquid dropped from the sky, its glow so bright it looked like the sun was falling into the dark pit. Its divine power burned their eyes and skin just for daring to be near it.
'The blood of a divine dragon. This is what it takes to invite our master.'
The ground below their feet rumbled and shook, and a bright beam of red light shot out of the abyssal pit, its red glow mixing with the red sun above their heads. It tore and pierced through the sky—the massive red vortex of shadows and red fire spinning in the sky.
"Ohhh, our dark lords have heard our prayers!"
The next moment, a blinding and pure white light descended, and the sky ruptured, with dozens of glowing eyes staring at the cultists. Screaming in pain, they fell to the ground, the holy energy incinerating their flesh, soaked and corrupted by hell.
? ? ?, ? ? ? ? ?.
"Ahhh!" The evil cultist, Bob, couldn't even think, the agony overwhelming all his senses.
'I should have listened to my mum and been a good boy...'
"Dragon, this is how deep your kin has fallen? You are even allying with the demons?" Even more, pain stabbed through their ears, blackened blood flowing out, each of the angel's words burning like hot knives.
POV Vesuvius:
Vesuvius looked at the massive white circle of heaven's gate, 'Of course, the angels would step in. Still, how could they get here so quickly? There wasn't even any invitation from our side... or was there?'
The holy energy radiating from it clashed and mixed with the unholy winds of fire ascending from the hell gate, forming a massive vortex that sucked in and swallowed the poor cultists.
Thousands of the angels descended, the shiny feathers of light raining down and pushing back the shrinking black vortex before it could even open.
'As I thought... the heaven's armies will not sit by idly. Luckily I have brought my own army.'
"My kin! Do you want my power? In this case, this is your trial to choose those worthy of my grace. Attack those feathered pigeons and protect the gate. Stay defensive, the time is on our side."
The angels descended down, the brightly glowing spears of light and heavenly lightning raining down and lightning the sky on fire.
Vesuvius didn't move, silently waiting for a bigger fry. He was their strongest combat asset, and he couldn't afford to be distracted by some lowly flies when a big boss arrived. He needed to be fully focused and react in a split second to any dangerous moves of the angels.
Dozens of the winged draconic beasts roared and flapped their wings, sending shockwaves across the forest. The reptilian's eyes shone, and magic circles spun around their horns and claws.
The smaller dracodactyls, the war draconids, and the dracowyrms all held their spot in their arrow formation, with the largest ones being at its tip.
All the glowing magic circles flashed at once, and a massive tsunami-shaped barrier of chaotically swirled elements covered the sky, shielding their formation as they ascended to clash with the angels.
The dragon's eyes dangerously gleamed as it worked, 'Who would have said that the magic my frosty minion developed for kobolds by modifying the human legion magic As if floodgates opened, the glowing circle in the sky grew, and more and more angels poured out, their bodies filling the space like a swarm of angry killer bees.
would also work so well for this.'
As for learning it personally, wyrms were innate genius magicians, and learning a new, already developed magic that was executable even by relatively weak kobolds was a piece of cake to them.
The salvos of angelic missiles, rays, and arrows clashed with the barrier, and the entire sky was flooded by a blinding light that set the forest on fire.
As if floodgates opened, the glowing circle in the sky grew, and more and more angels poured out, their bodies filling the space like a swarm of angry killer bees.
'Should I support them? No, that would be an insult to them. On top of that, no high ranked angels are present, as it is now.' Vesuvius calmed his eagerness to fight and instead silently watched as the two formations closed to each other, hundreds of shining projectiles flying between them and crisscrossing the sky.
Explosions constantly shook with land, and the spinning red vortex of demonic energy expanded, devouring and sucking in the nearby soil and trees like a red blackhole.
"Castiel!" The angelic ranks split in half as a single angel with fourteen wings of heavenly lightning mixed with light gently descended. The holy halo, looking like pure white clouds with lightning striking in them, crowned its head, looking like spinning rings of burning eyes.
'An ophamin or a throne rank angel. I can't say for sure. No, still not an opponent I need to intervene against.'
"Tempest, show yourself. It was a long time since we have met in a battle."
'Ohhh, they know the ancient wyrm?'
Then an even stronger holy presence descended upon the battlefield, and the white brilliance flooded everything. The glowing blades of the angelic soldier brightened, and their movements turned faster, brighter and larger blades of light descended upon the draconic formation.
'This one is worthy of my personal attention.' The sky darkened as the pair of ginormous wings covered the horizon as Vesuviuse's body expanded.
