All the Last Shelter Online players with online status from all existing servers had been moved to another island in the south based on the world map right now. The island, which was only described as black without a name, had become a gathering place for millions of players right now.
The current total online players were 85 million players. They came from various factions. Now, they were gathered here and crammed into one another. It didn’t matter whether they were rich or they had sacrificed all their savings to try their luck in the game. A fair equality.
Rich and poor.
Those two differentiators were the things WynterRain hated the most. A very unfair social status, especially for him.
In front of millions of the players, a transparent screen appeared. It displayed two letters that were close together.
[GM]
Since they were currently in the game, the abbreviation GM was definitely Game Master, and they believed in that too. What they had just experienced, the malfunctioning of the logout button from the game, and not being able to leave the island located out of nowhere, they believed that it was all the game master’s plan.
However, the question was, was that really the game master plan?
“This must be an event!”
“Yes, finally a big event!”
“I’m from the Japanese server. Is there someone here who is on the same server as me?!”
Hiro started to hear screams in a foreign language. From a language he knew to a language that was very foreign to his ears. They thought all of this was the preparation for a big event. Hiro couldn’t blame them. However, the girl in his arms still didn’t move.
There was no way the event would knock the players out even before the announcement, right?
Besides, seeing the appearance of Yuujin who was standing on his dragon’s head in the sky that continued to rumble fiercely made Hiro very sure that his opinion was actually different from the others. No events. There was only damage.
“Hey it’s WynterRain!”
“WynterRain says something!”
“Was he also teleported here?”
“WynterRain! Get down from there!”
Yuujin could hear the scream from a distance. However, he ignored it as if he was waiting for something. His eyes flashed with light. His left eye gave off a red glow, while the right one gave off a greenish glow. He was looking for someone and just found the person.
“Too bad, Hiro. You must be stuck here. I warned you before, but you don’t seem to care,” he muttered when he found Hiro’s figure staring at him from above the ground with a furrowed brow. Hiro was very angry. Whatever Yuujin did had put the man’s girlfriend in danger once again.
“Have you received it, Alice?” Yuujin asked in a whisper. He stood with his arms folded across his chest above Alice’s head, between its two long, pointed horns.
“Not yet, Master.”
Beep!
Yuujin received a message in his inbox. What he had been waiting for so long had finally come.
[30% of them have died. 65% collapsed. The remaining was safe. – GM]
“Only 5%? Was that girl also included? If yes, Hiro would definitely hate me by now,” Yuujin muttered again, closing the one-way message. Now, it was his turn to explain what would happen in the world of the Last Shelter Online.
Yuujin raised his right hand into the air and a thunderous bolt of lightning accompanied by a very bright lightning shot out from his hand towards the sky. He intentionally shot it to get the attention of the players he had managed to gather.
Blarrrr!
His action made the players, who had been very excited about the event that they would never get, become hysterical. It also deafened their ears. Their bodies then trembled with fear. The giant lightning that just struck was really scary, as if the sky was splitting in two above.
However, Yuujin didn’t have time to say anything as planned. From the split sky, a giant figure resembling a Mecha that could fly suddenly appeared. However, only part of its body came out up to the waist. Its position was reversed with the head, which was as big as the fly black dragon below.
Yuujin clenched his fists tightly. This was not what he had planned.
“Thank you, Yujin.” The Mecha’s voice boomed out over the roar of the dark sky.
“My name is GM. Yes! Only that!”
He was not a player. There was no option to become a Mecha for the player in this game. He was also not an NPC, let alone a game master. Even though he used the word GM as his name, no GM appeared that way. His uninvited arrival was more suitable to be considered as the final boss of an RPG game than a GM.
Even so, no one said anything to each other while the Mecha was talking. The players in that place actually looked astonished and amazed by the visual graphics of a giant Mecha-shaped monster that had just appeared, as if their Transformers movies were all really alive.
“Welcome to our new game version!”
“The real Last Shelter Online!”
The Mecha suddenly spread its two gigantic arms across the sky, and from those fingers came a black smog that was moving very quickly around the place. Making the already dark atmosphere became even darker. The worst thing was that black smog… it had a poison that not everyone could endure.
[Fatal Damage]

[Fatal Damage]
Millions of players instantly fell as the black smog touched the ground and surrounded them. The players who were smart enough had taken out the masks or breathing apparatus items to avoid inhaling the deadly poison. Just like Hiro did. Luckily, he still had 2 oxygen masks left.
He put it on Liberty who was still unconscious and put it on himself. Even so, if the smog didn’t go away, he might have the same fate as the others because the oxygen produced by the mask could run out anytime.
“What was going on here?”
Hiro saw how people started falling to the ground. Because it was so dark, he couldn’t even see the shadow of the Mecha above. Hiro ended up using Demon’s eyes to check the surroundings.
The sounds of crying, screaming, and wailing of despair were getting less and less. It seemed many had fallen and given up on their lives. The place suddenly turned eerily quiet. Even those who cover their noses and mouths with masks couldn’t speak because the more they spoke, the more oxygen they consumed.
However, it didn’t just end there.
After the smog stopped thickening, the ground beneath their feet suddenly seemed to shake violently, like an earthquake was happening with great force.
Zaappp crasshh! crasshh!
The pyramid made of layers of glass shattered and the glass shards fell down. It fell and stuck in the bodies of players who had been killed in zones that were not part of the safezone.
Hiro started to struggle. He had to carry Liberty in his arms while the ground on which he stood seemed to have begun to split in two.
Nobody knew what happened. They didn’t have time to think about it. All they had in their heads right now was fear. However, Hiro tried to stay sane.
“Ha ha ha ha.” The Mecha’s voice laughed at the players below. While the ground shook, the skies weren’t in a good state either.
Rumbling, thunder, whirlpools mixed with flashing lightning began to form in gigantic sizes. Even so, those things didn’t make the Mecha move as if he wasn’t touched by them. Meanwhile, Yuujin, who was a disaster magician, was seen standing upright on his two feet. He didn’t seem to have difficulty in the slightest. His eyes were still watching Hiro.
“Isn’t this what we have been waiting for, Yuujin? How do you feel? Are you very satisfied now?! Ha ha ha ha.” The Mecha continued to laugh like a psychopath.
“What we have been waiting for, you said. I would never have done it if I knew 300 people’s lives would be lost.” Yuujin felt a little cheated by the person he was working with.
“Don’t worry, my old friend. They just died medically. You can still meet them again in the world we have prepared. Ha ha ha ha.”
Yuujin clenched his fists, feeling very annoyed right now. All the plans that the two of them had prepared in a matter of years seemed to have turned into meaningless to him. The real goal was to bring down the elite, the crazy people who were desperate to give an injection of funds to a mad scientist and doctor full of ambition, like Dr. Jeff Johnson. However, what existed right now involved people who had been powerless from the start. And from those helpless people was probably the one who was very important to his younger brother.
“What are you waiting for, Yuujin?! Now, it’s your turn!”
Yuujin focused his mind again. Whatever had happened, he had to carry out everything according to plan.
With one big clap, Yuujin clapped his hands
CLAP!
A bright silver colored magic circle suddenly formed in front of him. The size of the magic circle was enormous, with a diameter that both he and Alice could pass in their current stance.
[Light in the Darkness]
An extremely bright light seemed to burst forth from the magic circle, like a giant ring expanding vertically. It was so fast that no one noticed that the ring had made it all over the world map of the Last Shelter Online. The black smog was swept away. It disappeared completely, and all players who were still alive could see what had just happened to the world in the game. Everything was ruined. Even the sea that used to be seen around the island was no longer water, it had been replaced by dry land that cracked and split in half imperfectly.
And before Yuujin said anything, all the players were revived in the same place without getting a penalty. They were greeted with a notification that they always saw every time they logged into the game.
