One of the requirements a mage had to accomplish before they could advance to a Magus, was understanding a domain. Once they succeeded, then they could finally take the last step and be promoted.
To advance into the Arch Magus, a Magus had to create a unique move. It could be an offensive move, defensive, or even a supportive move as long it was unique to them, then they could advance.
However, advancing into the Legendary realm seemed easier compared to the latter two. But in fact, it was far more complicated because one had to have a deeper understanding of their innate magic.
That was the only way an Arch Magus could advance. It was also the reason Kyran told Tritus to learn all he could from Osric during their fight. Because what else was a better way to learn and understand one's innate magic than during a fight? Aside from this, learning from Osric who had the advantage with mage level was beneficial to Tritus.
Nevertheless, Tritus lacked the means to fight Osric in a head-on battle. He could only rely on setting up formations and using scrolls to get the latter in a disadvantageous situation.
In the end, Tritus still failed, and without a proper magic weapon, he was like a sheep awaiting slaughter once Osric got serious.
Who would have expected that the trident's soul, the bluish-green sea serpent, was willing to share the experience and energy he had accumulated while fighting the bluish-white sea serpent with Tritus in order to help him break through to the next level? The energy the sea serpent shared with him was probably only an excess it could no longer absorb. Still, it was more than enough to assist in Tritus's advancement.
A surge of magic energy erupted from the bluish-green sea serpent as it completely devoured the diamond dolphin.
"YOU REALLY DARED!" Osric exclaimed through gritted teeth as he spat another mouthful of blood at the same time the diamond staff shattered after losing its soul.
Before he could cast a magic attack using the crystal staff, he noticed another surge of magic energy nearby. It did not take him long to realize that the surge of magic energy actually came from Tritus.
At the exact moment that the bluish-green sea serpent erupted with magic energy, Tritus's body also did the same. Because of this, all of the scrolls he had set up were destroyed by the fierce magic fluctuation in the surroundings.
Realization dawned on Osric as he turned his focus on Tritus— his expression distorted.
'They actually plan on advancing at the same time!' He thought, feeling indignant at the thought that the reason they were going to advance was due to his magic weapon's magic energy and vitality. Not to mention, he found their guts unbelievable to dare perform an advancement in the middle of their fight! Did they think he was a pushover?
Osric's eyes flashed with killing intent while he glowered at Tritus and then at the sea serpent.
"Not on my watch!" He growled and released the full force of his magic pressure.
Two whirlpools of almost palpable concentrated magic energies appeared, which were caused by the bluish-green sea serpent and Tritus. And at the point at which these two whirlpools were about to meet, another surge of magic energy erupted. This one came from Osric as he was about to unleash his ultimate unique move.
With the new whirlpool of magic energy eating away the ones released by the bluish-green sea serpent and Tritus, the latter two felt a possible backlash coming their way.
This was obviously Osric's aim. Disrupt the flow of magic energies between the two and stop their advancement. At most, he could cause the two to receive a backlash and instead of advancing their level might suffer a degradation. If not, the foundations of both the bluish-green sea serpent and Tritus would suffer a backlash and they would never be able to advance no matter what happened.
But Osric was not simply aiming for these two possibilities. If any of the two succeeded, he would still unleash his ultimate unique move and make them pay for what they did to his two magic weapons.
"I'll make you suffer fate worse than death!"
"'Not on my watch.'"
Osric almost choked after hearing someone echoed his words. His reaction was not because he felt embarrassed or indignant after someone mimicked him, but because the owner of the voice was someone he believed to be in a far more precarious situation.
Kyran Regis!
What did his appearance there entail? What happened to Sovereign of Light?
Unfortunately, Osric did not have the leisure to dwell on his doubts as he felt a strange tingle at the back of his neck. His heart turned cold, and his eyes widened in fear. Because he only ever felt this kind of tingle when he was close to losing his life!
Osric immediately turned into water and drop to the ground with a splash. Right after that, a beam of light flashed past the spot where he had just been.
The beam of light that missed him had the characteristics of Light and Void magic.
Light magic can pass through objects— even the human body— so long as they are not 'opaque,' while Void magic can turn anything it touches into nothingness.
Kyran did not want Osric to die just yet. He still wanted to wring as much information about the Chaos Era from the latter. That was why he was thinking of aiming at the latter's bones, which Light magic could not affect. Kyran aimed to cripple him in a way that he would not have the ability to move, especially once he asked Raya to look into his memories.
In any case, Kyran's arrival was not that surprising. As a matter of fact, he was aware of the situation because the bluish-green sea serpent kept sending him updates. That was why when the sea serpent successfully devoured the diamond dolphin, Kyran asked it to share some of its accumulated magic energy and vitality with Tritus to ensure the latter could also advance.
Tritus also accepted the sea serpent's goodwill and did not worry about Osric sabotaging their advancement because he already sensed the Sigil taking effect— meaning Kyran was within his range again.
No matter what trick Osric does, Tritus knows his master would be there to stop it.
Meanwhile, Light followed Kyran while in her 'light' form. This prevented others below the Sage realm from noticing her presence. But she did not follow Kyran because she had already become his Sigil. Because, in the end, Kyran decided not to turn her into one.
Instead, he left a mark on Light, similar to the ones he left on Olivia and Osman. As to the condition of the mark's trigger, it was for Light to follow Kyran and see for herself the real situation between him and the new Soul Emperor. Depending on what she decided upon understanding the current situation, the mark would either disappear or kill her.
Honestly, Light would not have agreed for Kyran to mark her. But because she feared Kyran's parents— or at least one of his parents— would discover her brazen move on Kyran and descend from the Higher Realm to deal with her.
That was right. Light was still convinced that Kyran was a dragon spawn and the reason he remained human was that the dragon that sired him was a noble among the dragons from the Higher Realm.
Kyran did not know Light's misunderstanding. He only had an inkling but did not dwell on it because he did not want to expose the truth about him possessing the Draconic core.
To him, it was better for Light to misunderstand his birth, rather than expose that the supposed 'Dragon magic' he circulated was actually 'Draconic magic.'
"To think you'd be so willing to come here," Osric said as he materialized a few meters away from where Kyran stood.
Kyran looked at Osric with an amused smile. Currently, he was circulating not only the Void magic but the Draconic magic and could sense Osric's apprehension behind the brave front.
Because Kyran's face was half covered, Osric did not see the former's amused smile. He continued, "You were even against coming here, but now, you are here. As expected of someone born from the Regis Clan. You can't just leave one of your own when they are in danger."
Kyran did not respond and only tilted his head to one side. His action was actually not meant as a response to what Osric had said. However, that was what the latter interpreted and felt his fear vanish, which was then replaced by indignation.
But Kyran was half oblivious about Osric's feelings because he was busy using his magic sense to scan the Boyd Family's villa.
Immediately, Kyran's brow furrowed after discovering Styx, Dante, Owen, Hamish and other mercenaries present in the villa. He also located Neo and realized how badly damaged its exterior was.
Just as Kyran was thinking this, a powerful aura erupted from inside the villa.
In an instant, Kyran warped Tritus and the bluish-green sea serpent away to ensure their advancement would not be affected if a battle ensued.
"I've heard stories about it. And my predecessor showed me plenty of instances of how it is done. But that does not stop me from being amazed at it."
A somewhat alluring yet powerful feminine voice reverberated in the surroundings.
Kyran's eyes narrowed upon recognizing the owner of the voice.
"The new 'Dark Sage.' Finally, we meet."
