Chapter 636 Not Over

Name:Legacy of the Dark Sage Author:
Just as Nolan said, he had not planned on breaking through. As a matter of fact, he was stunned by his sudden advancement.

When Obstruction trapped Nolan in an isolated space, it was true that he was forced to break past his limits. But because he knew the Human plane had a Sovereign, he was confident that no matter how much he pushed himself, he would not truly achieve a breakthrough.

Who would have thought that as soon as he had broken through his limit to escape from Obstruction's magic, he would actually advance to a Sovereign?

Nolan was pissed! Not even being able to fully utilize the Human plane's magic energy at his disposal after becoming its new Sovereign could alleviate his displeasure.

He preferred to remain as a Sage. Because only then could he work with Cade and Kyran in dealing with the Soul Emperor. But now that he had become the Human plane's Sovereign, he could no longer meddle in its internal affairs.

Others might think it was contradicting, but the thing was, becoming a plane's Sovereign meant one had to look at the bigger picture. His responsibility as the new Sovereign lies in protecting the plane against other Sovereigns. He was not allowed to meddle in any internal conflicts that would arise in the Human plane because doing so would mean meddling with the minor fates of the people living in it.

The Fates would never allow that to happen. It was one thing to meddle with external conflicts which would affect minor fates, but the minor fates were responsible for a person's growth. If another person were allowed to meddle with them, then that person's growth— not to mention their future path— would change.

But the change would not happen to that person alone. Once that person's future path changes, it causes a chain reaction, soon affecting every person connected to him or her.

That was what the Fates wanted to prevent.

Frankly, the Fates had little control over a Sovereign's fate because they had already broken through the first barrier toward the pinnacle.

That pinnacle— which people from the Higher Realm also called 'godhood'— was the ultimate goal of every mage in the universe.

In any case, Nolan did not know much about the latter. But he did know about the Fates and even had a fair share of encounters with them.

Putting all this matter aside, Nolan had no choice but to vent his annoyance to Gemini and the other three Sovereigns.

He glared at them and said, "If you insist on staying in the Human plane, prepare to be tortured to death."

"Don't be presumptuous!" Gemini growled at him. "You have only become a Sovereign! You are like an infant in front of us, who are ahead of you in years!"

"Don't talk about being ahead in years with me," Nolan replied derisively. "All that is useless when your in my territory."

RAWRGH!

The black, gold, and silver golem uttered an unearthly scream as it spread its arms before ramming its huge palms at Club, Frock, Gemini, and Squall.

If others had been in the same position as the four— about to be squashed to death by a gigantic golem— they would have fallen into despair. Surprisingly, the expressions the four wore were anything but despair.

In fact, there was a glint of determination in them and even anticipation!

Before the golem's palms landed on them, Frock's body flickered. Its robe extended and wrapped around Club's, Gemini's, and Squall's bodies, instantly turning them into mummies.

BAM!

The gigantic golem's hand slammed down; its momentum continued until it reached the ground.

BOOOM!

Clouds of dust and smoke erupted as the golem's hand bore down the earth, leaving behind a huge hand-shaped crater.

'Hm?'

Nolan's eyes narrowed as soon as he saw a fabric slip out from the gap between the golem's fingers.

Soon after, the fabric spread out, and Club, Gemini, and Squall burst out from it, rushing toward Nolan.

The huge fan behind Squall's back spun as a tempest blew straight at Nolan.

At the same time, Club, with its crooked staff body, weaved in midair as several clubs in different shapes and sizes materialized around it. These clubs then rushed straight at the gigantic golem.

Gemini was not idle either. Frock, which turned into a long white fabric, wrapped its body around Gemini. The latter's body grew in size, and the side of its face with the female symbol glowed. Soon, Gemini's whole body turned into that of a female, with Frock turning into a beautiful silvery robe that clung to Gemini's body.

With a graceful wave of her hands, several thin threads flew out of Gemini's fingertips. She made weaving motions, and the threads flew in different directions and connected themselves to several items, including the golem, on the ground.

Afterward, Gemini gracefully pulled at the threads, and everything attached to them was pulled toward her.

This was Frock's magic. Threads. By connecting its 'threads' on any object, or the living, it could freely control them.

As to why Frock had to wrap itself around Gemini, it was because the latter, in its female form, could amplify the former's magic.

That was Gemini's magic— Compliment. Gemini could merge with other Sovereigns and, using its Compliment magic, could bring out that Sovereign's untapped potential.

Among the object that Frock had connected to was the land. As soon as Gemini tugged at it, the ground shook and was pulled up.

At the same time, the gigantic golem wobbled after being tugged and was about to collide with the ground Gemini had pulled.

Meanwhile, the clubs had already hit the golem and bore their way into its body.

At this time, the tempest had already arrived at its destination— Nolan.

However, Nolan did not evade the tempest. Instead, the black cloak he wore shifted and rotated around him, protecting him against the tempest.

BAM!

Just then, the wobbling golem stomped its gigantic foot at the ground Gemini had pulled. In an instant, it was crushed and turned into rubbles.

But Gemini was not done. Using Frock, she pulled at more patches of ground and even trees and flung them toward the gigantic golem.

Similarly, Club manipulated the clubs that entered the golem's body. Its goal was obvious. Destroy the golem from the inside.

But.

RAWRGH!

The gigantic golem uttered another unearthly scream, and all the clubs that entered its body were forced out. Right after that, it clenched its huge fists and punched at the incoming patches of ground and trees.

BAM! BAM! SHATTER!

In a short span of time, rubbles and pieces of trees littered the ground from the golem's non-stop bombardment of Gemini and Club's simultaneous attacks.

Nolan's frown deepened as he watched Club, Gemini, and Frock do their best to deal with the golem. He then looked at Squall, who seemed keen on taking him on alone.

In a way, this approach was not a bad move.

When they were outside, Nolan found Squall's offensive a little annoying. Unlike Gemini, who turned into a male and used Club to attack him, Squall's tempest-like attacks tickled his body more.

But that was before becoming a Sovereign.

Squall finished disengaging the fan's blades. The blades then circled behind Squall, and concentrated magic energies were attracted toward its center.

Crackle! Crackle!

Lightning-like magic energy formed at the center of the rotating blades behind Squall. As soon as it gathered enough power, it shot upward toward Nolan.

Nolan still did not move and simply had the cloak move about to protect him.

CRACKLE! SIZZLE! BOOM!

The lightning-like magic energy collided with the cloak, and an explosion followed.

But Squall did not stop. It continued to attack concentrated magic energy at the center of the blades and prepared to attack Nolan again.

FOOM!

The cloud of smoke that resulted from the explosion dispersed as Nolan finally made a move. His figure vanished and reappeared behind Squall, who was still preparing another round of concentrated lightning-like magic energy.

He extended his hand toward the center of the blades where the magic energy was gathering, and his eyes glowed.

Crackle! Crackle! Sizzle!

The magic energy crackled and seeped into Nolan's outstretched arm. In just a few seconds, his whole body crackled with lightning.

A crack formed around the area on Squall's body that might very well be where its mouth would have been if it was not made of pure black steel. After which, it let out a hoarse scream as the blades, and the back part of its body began to break into pieces.

"Your attack does hurt out there," Nolan said. "But what the f*ck are you even thinking trying to use the Human plane's magic energy against me?"

Squall's unearthly cry resounded as its body slowly turned into particles.

"Besides," Nolan continued with a condescending smile. "Did you forget what my magic is? Your body is as good as dust in my eyes."

From afar, Club, Gemini, and Frock sensed Squall's disappearing aura and looked in their direction distractedly.
