As soon as White Lily heard what the Nuom Sovereign said, she did not hesitate to remove her connection with Rin.
At that same time, at a highly guarded room in the Montgomeray's Secret Residence, Rin fell to her knees and spat out a mouthful of blood.
Celine was instantly alarmed at this and rushed to her side, "W-What's wrong? What happened?"
Celine knew Rin's identity and why they had to hide and protect her. Thus, seeing Rin vomit blood and her already pale complexion turning an even ghastlier white, worried Celine.
'Did something happen to the Queen of the Faes?' This was the first question that crossed Celine's mind.
But Rin seemed to be in a bad condition for a few hours now. Obviously, it was because of her connection to the Queen of the Faes. Since the latter was fighting the Crown Princess, the former had to supply the latter with enough energy to keep going.
Rin's condition seemed to have worsen. Just how dire was the situation in Ravenpass right at that moment? Were they truly at a juncture wherein they could only wait for their defeat?
Celine immediately shook her head and pushed all these ominous thoughts out of her head. She should not think negatively. Instead, she should find a way to help ease Rin's condition.
With this in mind, Celine closed her eyes and started to transfer her magic energy into Rin's body.
Sensing Celine's energy filling her body, Rin lifted her head and looked at her with a bitter smile. She could already guess Celine thought her reaction was due to having insufficient magic energy to support White Lily.
Rin appreciated the gesture, but since it was not the case, it would not do good for Celine to waste her magic energy.
"I am alright, Hall Master Celine," Rin assured her and gestured for her to stop. "Help me send a message to Patriarch Ezra instead. Tell him White Lily forcefully remove our connection, she might be in danger."
Celine, who was about to insist on helping Rin by giving her magic energy, was instantly dumbfounded at what she heard.
"I'll contact him right away."
Celine wanted to know the details but since it was a matter of life and death of the Queen of the Faes, she restrained her curiosity and left at once to contact Ezra.
Rin watched Celine leave the room and as soon as she confirmed the latter was out of earshot, she finally let out the tears she had suppressed.
What Rin asked Celine to tell Ezra sounded like she was unsure of White Lily's situation. But the truth was, Rin knew perfectly well what had happened.
She was the Spirit Child, after all.
Before White Lily severed her connection with Rin completely, Rin felt a hot searing pain at her magic core. It was as if an outside force was trying to pull out her magic core, wanting to destroy it.
Rin knew then that White Lily was experiencing that pain just before their connection was severed.
Following this, Rin sensed the presence of all Spirits in the Montgomeray Secret Residence weaken.
Obviously, all of them were affected by whatever was happening to White Lily.
'…Or had happened…' Rin added in despair, knowing that it would have been impossible for White Lily to endure such torturous pain after losing her human contractor.
In the first place, huma contractors were supposed to share everything with their contracted Spirits. Meaning, they would not only supply them with magic energy, but also share their pain.
White Lily did not want Rin to suffer, thus she decided to severe their connection. But doing so would definitely put her in danger.
'Please… let my thoughts be wrong…' Rin prayed with all her heart.
In Noser, Anette, Ezra, Zephyr and the rest were waiting for Aron and the others' arrival when all of the Spirits with them turned sickly white. Those with lower levels even fainted on the spot, alarming their contractors.
After that, the Spirits who remained awake also fell one after another without being able to tell their contractors the reason.
Before Ezra and the rest of the Montgomeray found what had happened, they received an urgent message from Celine. In that moment all of them felt their heart sank.
Looking at what had happened to the Spirits with them, it was no longer a 'might-be-in-danger' statement but that White Lily was definitely in danger.
Unfortunately, without knowing the situation in Ravenpass, even if they had the ability to save her, they would only become sitting ducks.
When all of them were feeling lost, Zephyr asked them to let Kyran know about White Lily.
Frankly, Anette and Ezra wanted to tell Kyran. But they knew the latter was busy transporting the people in the Tower of Conclave to the Regis Estate. They did not want to disturb him. They wanted to solve the situation by themselves because they did not want to rely on Kyran every time they encountered a hopeless situation.
What was the point of becoming Kyran's allies when each time they could not solve something they ended up asking for his help?
However, before they could even voice their thoughts, Jared arrived along with the first batch of Courtenay and Lumley Family members that needed healing.
Seeing Jared's feature, Zephyr immediately recognized him as a Regis and immediately told him about White Lily's situation without waiting for Anette's or Ezra's consent.
Jared froze after hearing this. After all, they had people near Ravenpass who were keeping an eye on what was happening. If what Zephyr said was true, why did their people not say anything?
Nevertheless, Jared still connected with Aron and the Regis Special Forces stationed near Ravenpass to relay the situation.
While Jared was checking their reply, a bitter smile appeared on his face as he looked at Anette, Ezra, Zephyr and the rest of the leaders from the Solum Tribe and Montgomeray Family.
"It's too late."
His words instantly broke their heart.
Alas, it seemed most of them only heard Jared's words and was not really paying attention to his expression...
Going back a few minutes earlier, in Ravenpass.
"We can start off by killing her."
Even before White Lily could completely severe her connection with Rin, the Nuom Sovereign already moved.
Whiiirl! Click! Click!
The diamond disc on Obstruction's back rotated and two distinct golden lines appeared on its surface, making it look as if the disc was made up of three connecting rings.
Soon the disc separated, using the lines as guides. In a blink of an eye, the disc became three thin diamond rings.
The runes engraved on these rings glowed and stirred as Obstruction raised his hand toward White Lily. In an instant, a distortion appeared right in the middle of the latter's chest.
"AARGH!" White Lily felt her magic core stirred inside her body and felt an unspeakable pressure crashing it.
'N-No!'
Suddenly, White Lily's past seemed to flash before her eyes. This was not the first time she had experienced this.
During the previous War of the Sovereigns and their plane was about to be destroyed, White Lily fought with everything she had to maintain the passage she and the Seele Court created that would lead the rest of the Spirits to another plane.
Even when their enemies started to attack the doors, which was the last defensive line they had, White Lily stayed and supported the other members of the court to pass through the passage.
White Lily was the last one to enter the passage, and to be honest, she barely managed to pass through because of her fatal injuries. She remembered her life flashing before her eyes just as she entered the passage. When she came around, she was lying in a dark cave and had been unconscious for days.
"You have to see through this to the end, Lily."
A low, yet gentle voice suddenly spoke in White Lily's mind. Her vision then blurred after recognizing the voice.
'Caelan…' She thought, her throat tighten as she fought back the tears that threaten to fall from her eyes.
Soon, her blurred vision started to clear and Caelan's long silver hair appeared in her line of sight.
Standing in front of her, was Caelan and the scene before them looked familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time.
Still, seeing Caelan's familiar back broke White Lily's heart.
'Ah…' She thought while looking at Caelan's back. 'To think in my last moments I still failed to see your face one last time…'
"Not on my watch."
White Lily's eyes widened as her vision finally cleared.
The familiar back she was looking at, no longer had long silver hair but short dark hair. He was also no longer wearing a white robe, but an all-black clothes.
White Lily's tears fell uncontrollably as she watched the man before her.
It was not Caelan, yet it was already a familiar one.
"H-How…?"
Obstruction's eyes narrowed as he looked at the man who suddenly appeared in front of White Lily and destroyed his magic.
"You are… the new Dark Sage."
Kyran looked at Obstruction with cold eyes.
