Chapter 683 Finale (3)

Name:Legacy of the Dark Sage Author:
Layla's expression darkened at Obstruction's words.

It was easy for him to say those words when he did not know how hard it was to control the Macabre Glacier!

Besides, with Layla's current state wherein she could not rouse her magic energy, it would be impossible for her even to control it, not to mention command it.

Frankly, even when the Macabre Glacier's sentient stopped harassing her after she took full control of Haylee's body, its influence still lingered. Layla knew if she tried to unleash the Macabre Glacier, its sentient would take that chance to take full control over the souls she let it capture.

Layla dd not want that to happen. She still needed those souls. They were not meant to be consumed by the mirror. Instead, she wanted to use them as leverage against Kyran so he would listen to her demands.

While Layla pondered this, the ground trembled even more violently, and the magic fluctuation in the air intensified.

The innermost section of the huge array above, where the outer part had turned into several purple rings and the middle part as several purple cubes, emitted a blinding glow as something emerged from within.

"There is not much time," Obstruction told Layla, snapping her out of her reverie. "Release the Macabre Glacier."

Layla looked at him and said, "Using the Macabre Glacier at this juncture will only put it at a disadvantage."

What she said was actually correct. Though it had taken so many souls, those souls were only trapped inside and were not taken for it to consume. Because of this, its internal magic energy was still lacking.

For this reason, it had tried to suck Kyran's magic energy when his magic sense touched its surface. If True Void had not interfered, the Macabre Glacier might even end up consuming Kyran's soul completely.

Of course, the latter was only a possibility. The Macabre Glacier might not stand a chance if Kyran combined his Draconic and Void magic against it.

What he said to True Void about using the Draconic magic to destroy it was not empty talk. It was possible because Draconic magic was among the most destructive in the Lower and Higher realms.

In any case, Layla was unaware of these things. But what she did know was if the Macabre Glacier was unleashed, even if it could still use its internal magic energy, this place's veil would end up targeting its effect on it. When that happened, the Macabre Glacier was not strong enough to withstand the veil's undivided effect.

Layla did not want something like that to happen because the Macabre Glacier would definitely consume the energy of the souls it captured. And even if Layla did not mind giving these souls for the Macabre Glacier to consume, it was still not enough.

Basically, the influence of Soul magic energy in this place was still too weak, unlike the influence coming from Void magic energy, which basically converts any form of magic energy in the surroundings as its own.

It was one of the Void magic's nature and greatest advantages.

Obstruction's mood darkened from Layla's blatant refusal to use the Macabre Glacier. He knew she was also affected by the veil's effect, but using the Macabre Glacier would not really require her to use that much magic energy.

Apart from this, if Layla had truly taken full control of the Macabre Glacier, it would no longer require her to use her magic energy to release it.

'Does she refuse to release the Macabre Glacier because she has no full control over it yet? Did we overestimate her capability?'

Obstruction started to doubt Layla's current value.

She might be the current Soul Emperor, but if she could not even control the Macabre Glacier, she might not necessarily become an asset to their faction.

There was no specific time or date when the War of the Sovereigns would start. But even if they still have a few years left, it might not be enough for the Soul Emperor to master the use of the Macabre Glacier.

Compared to the Dark Sage— no, Obstruction should call him the new Void Master since he already lost the Macabre Glacier— even without the mirror, Kyran's might was already a threat to the other Sovereigns. Obstruction experienced it firsthand, after all. Besides, he felt as if Kyran was hiding something. Obstruction was convinced the latter possessed two innate magic.

Even then, Obstruction still failed to recognize what kind of magic Kyran had used when they fought.

Seemingly reading Obstruction's doubts, even if his face was basically shrouded by darkness underneath his hood, Layla laughed softly and said, "I don't need to prove anything to you. May I remind you that it was you who proposed to settle my affairs? I never asked for it. Now that the situation has come to this, you are suddenly thinking about bailing, aren't you?"

Obstruction did not respond. However, his countenance turned cold. Even if he could not rouse his magic at that moment, he had ways of dealing with Layla if she did something.

"You don't have to look scary," Layla continued as she looked at the innermost section of the huge array in the sky.

At that moment, an inverted tip of some sort had already appeared. If one would look closely, there were chains attached to it, where the other end had yet to emerge from it.

"I won't use the Macabre Glacier because there are too few souls I can use for it to consume," Layla explained matter-of-factly. "However, I have another way to deal with this situation."

"What are you planning to do?"

A beautiful— almost alluring, smile appeared on Layla's lips. She looked at Obstruction once more before saying, "I am the Soul Emperor. What do you think I can do?"

Without waiting for Obstruction to react, Layla's sapphire blue eyes glowed.

"Let me show you how a Soul Emperor does things."

Although Layla could not rouse her magic energy within the veil, she could still connect to every single person she had marked.

The distance did not matter. She could still connect with them as long as they possessed her mark. Of course, there were still factors that might prevent her from connecting with them, but fortunately, the veil did not prevent her from doing so.

In several parts of the empire, the eyes of all remaining leaders of the Royal Army and Royal Family that had not joined the fray glazed over. Their irises turned sapphire for a second before returning to their normal color.

One after another, these leaders issued a command, mobilizing the rest of the army and the Royal Guards and transporting them to the Regis Estate.

At a forest in Starhorn, Soll, who went to the Courtenay Residence with the intention of destroying them, was currently engaged in a hunt. Unfortunately, he was not the hunter but the hunted.

From behind, there were two Regis Elders and three Regis Special Force members chasing him. Their mage levels were clearly below Soll's. However, their momentum did not seem to be any weaker than him.

'What the hell is happening?' Soll wondered in exasperation. He went to the Courtenay Residence and was looking for a chance to destroy them, but how did it end up with him running for his life against the Regis? 'Why are the Regis Clan here? Two of their Elders are even here. Just what is going on—?'

While feeling exasperated, Soll suddenly made an abrupt stop as the mark Haylee gave him activated. In a blink of an eye, his eyes turned sapphire. But unlike the leaders of the Royal Army and the Royal Family, his eyes did not return to their normal color and remained the same color as Layla's.

Something similar also happened in Noser, where a few Montgomeray family members were still there preparing to transport the remaining hostages they captured to the Regis Estate.

The people leading the transmission array's maintenance were actually Mimi and Zuri. At that moment, they were preparing to transport Ane, whom Zephyr had defeated. She and the other leading members that led the attack in Noser were bound using the chains the Courtenay Family had made.

These chains were the same ones that bound Kyran when Mimi captured and took him to the Courtenay Residence.

Because of these chains, Ane and they could not use their magic.

While Mimi, Zuri, and the rest of the Montgomeray family members were busy replenishing the array's magic energy, Ane, who had her head lowered, suddenly perked up, and her eyes turned into sapphires.

"There seems to be some sort of disturbance in the array's target location," Mimi said while studying the fluctuation appearing in the transmission array's formulas.

Zuri frowned after hearing this, but since she was not knowledgeable about Arrays, she did not know how to help confirm Mimi's suspicion.

"Do you think something is happening there?" She asked instead.

Mimi shook her head, "Technically, a lot is happening there. But this should not affect our arrays. The location it is connected to has been created by Master Jared himself. It has several protective and defensive formulas to prevent any accidents."

Zuri felt her head on the verge of short-circuiting from all the things coming out of Mimi's mouth. Ultimately, she decided to say, "Then do we proceed or not? Ms. Anette said we can stay here and guard instead of joining them."

Mimi looked at her with a wry smile, "You say that but I know you want to go there and help."

Zuri smiled bitterly, thinking how worried Levi had been after sensing Ignis's pain. He had been one of the first Montgomeray family members to go to the Regis Estate and investigate what happened to the Queen of the Faes.

"It doesn't matter," she told Mimi. "Guarding the prisoners is also important. Taking them to the estate lowers the chances of them escaping, but we are still relatively safe in this place so we can stay."

"Fair enough," Mimi agreed. "Then we'll stay here for now—."

"That won't do. I need you to take Ane in the Regis Estate, Mimi."

A soft gentle voice suddenly spoke from behind, alerting both Mimi and Zuri.
