Chapter 9 - The test of danger
As soon as they heard that it was a survival test, everyone's blood began to boil. After so many days of test, everyone felt really dissatisfied. They were eager to have a practice exercise to vent their anger.
The so-called wilderness was where all the recruits would stay in the desolate forest for five days and four nights. They were 200 kilometers away, equipped with only a pitiful amount of equipment, a signal flare, a dagger, 2 grams of salt, 3 grams of meters of salt, and a simple map that could only see the north, south, east, and west.
Unlike any previous tests, this one was genuine and allowed casualties.
The helicopter sped along, bringing the group of team members into the dense primal forest, as far as the eye could see.
Anything else is fine, but save this signal flare for me. I don't want anyone to be so stupid as to get eaten by wild beasts until only bones are left, or even more bones are left. This is your life. Lin Mo's face was solemn.
"I will repeat one last time, do not try to be brave and kill yourself in the wilderness. Do not take over the spot as a martyr!"
Everyone's heart tightened as they finally realized that the training that they were going to face might cost them their lives.
There were countless wild boars, wild wolves, black bears, and tigers, and a few would have been enough to kill them. However, it was because of this that the selected members were able to enter the Falcon class and become the most elite soldiers of the special forces.
The helicopter hovered in the air. As each member of the team descended, Zhang Minghai was the first to arrive.
Zhang Minghai was a bit unlucky. When he landed, the umbrella rope hooked onto a branch, entangling it so tightly that it was unable to escape. Zhang Minghai repeated the process several times and decisively took out his dagger to cut off the umbrella rope.
In the ancient forest, the dense and exuberant trees covered the entire ground with intertwining tree roots. Rotten leaves and rotten branches covered the ground, creating rustling sounds from stepping on the thick ground.
Zhang Minghai cautiously made his way through the forest. The towering trees were so dense that they blocked most of the light, making the entire forest very dark.
He then took out the map that he carried with him and studied it for a while. After ten minutes, Zhang Minghai decisively put the map back into his pocket. If he relied on the map in his hands, then he would definitely not be able to leave this forest.
From the moment he entered the forest, Zhang Minghai had started to plan out the food and the place to sleep. Food was easy, he could see the hare, snake, and deer almost within a few steps, Zhang Minghai's marksmanship was first-rate, his knife skills were naturally not bad, he had to kill several hare and deer with his throwing knife, he started to clean up his rich dinner — of course, if he was unlucky, these would be all the rations for the remaining five days.
Zhang Minghai quickly skinned and bled the wild hare and deer, before digging a hole and burying them in the ground. In this primitive forest full of dangers, the smell of blood could attract absolutely powerful predators.
This was all the rations he had. If he was lucky, he could still eat more. However, when good luck was about to come, Zhang Minghai still very realistically prepared the rations for five days.
After extinguishing the fire, Zhang Minghai didn't hesitate to start his journey. He needed to take a few more steps while he still had the strength and energy. The further back he went, the more difficult this test would be.
On the way, Zhang Minghai's journey went without a hitch. At least he didn't encounter any difficult wild beasts, only a python that was as thick as Zhang Minghai's thigh. However, he didn't initiate an attack, and Zhang Minghai didn't provoke him either.
It was almost impossible to walk in the forest as it consumed a lot of energy to walk deeper and shallow ground. After walking for more than 6 hours, Zhang Minghai finally managed to travel 50 km.
The sun was setting in the west, and the night in the forest came earlier than usual. The dark rays of the sun intertwined with the rotting leaves on the ground, making the whole forest seem even more eerie and terrifying.
Zhang Minghai did not dare to show off. Although he might not necessarily be afraid of tigers and bears, he was currently training. He would try his best not to provoke them if he could.
Zhang Minghai chose a sturdy tree trunk as his resting place. At the very least, he didn't have to fear being eaten while sleeping or being attacked by wild beasts. After all, it was quite rare to see carnivores that could climb trees in the forest.
Zhang Minghai took off his camouflage clothes. He was wearing only a camouflage vest and a camouflage uniform to keep him warm. Although it was summer, the night in the forest was enough for one to catch a cold in their sleep.
Tired, Zhang Minghai didn't even have the strength to let his imagination run wild. Today's 50km of hasty travel had consumed too much of Zhang Minghai's strength and energy. The moment his head touched the tree trunk, he fell into a deep slumber.
"Awoooo …" A sharp wolf howl woke Zhang Minghai up from his sleep. He suddenly sat up, his right hand wielding the saber in a fighting posture. When he woke up, Zhang Minghai couldn't help feeling a chill run down his spine – he was actually surrounded by wild wolves!
In the pitch-black forest, the faint rays of light emitted by the stars pierced through the branches and sprinkled down. Following that, specks of starlight appeared. Dozens of green eyes stared fixedly at Zhang Minghai.
He was their plate of food!
Zhang Minghai was glad that the tree trunk was thick and tall, to the point that it was difficult for the wolves to reach him. However, what was the reason for him being targeted by these wolves?
Zhang Minghai subconsciously thought of the roasted rabbit and spore meat in his backpack. It was these food that would put him in danger for the next four days!
Damn, what a sharp nose!
Zhang Minghai couldn't help but silently curse as he angrily glared at the pack of wolves and started to think of a way to escape.
Zhang Minghai didn't know how many wild wolves were surrounding him at the moment. He could only judge based on his green wolf eyes. Of course, he couldn't exclude those who were hiding in the dark and resting with their eyes closed.
After thinking about it for a while, besides the frontal assault and the retreat of the wolves, Zhang Minghai couldn't think of any other way, and these two methods were not something that could be implemented in this dark environment. Zhang Minghai sighed, put on his camouflage clothes, and continued to sleep.
If you wake up tomorrow, it would be for the best if these wolves took the initiative to retreat. If they don't, hmph, be careful of your soldier grandpa taking your wolf life!
At the first glimmer of dawn, Zhang Minghai woke up from his sleep. Due to the strict working time of his body, Zhang Minghai would wake up at this time, which was even more punctual than an alarm clock.
The wolves had yet to disperse, but there were more and more of them. Then the faint morning sunlight, Zhang Minghai counted them carefully, there were actually 21!
F * ck, so much, all he saw was these few kilograms of meat on his body?
Zhang Minghai couldn't help but feel upset.
F * ck, since you want to die, then don't blame your grandpa for not showing mercy!
However, it was obvious that daggers were only suitable for close combat. Although Zhang Minghai believed that he was proficient in this field, against more than twenty wild wolves that were starving to death, Zhang Minghai was still a bit short of breath.
Thinking of this, Zhang Minghai started to look at the tree he was living in. He used his dagger to cut off a long and sturdy tree trunk, then used his dagger to cut off the excess leaves and leaves.
"Awoo!" A howl came from the pack of wolves as if they were charging at him. But at this moment, all the wolves stood up and slowly walked towards Zhang Minghai.
Zhang Minghai didn't flinch, he slid down from the highest point until he was two meters away from the ground. Then he climbed up a tree branch and sat down, facing the wolf pack from a high vantage point.
"Come on, those who don't care about their lives, come on up! Your grandpa Soldier took your lives! "
Just at that moment, a wolf suddenly jumped up, opened its mouth wide and aimed at Zhang Minghai's hanging leg, biting it.
Zhang Minghai's pupils constricted. He held the wooden javelin in his hand and stabbed it towards the wild wolf. With a "puchi" sound, the wooden javelin pierced through the wolf's body. Dark red blood spurted out, spraying the entire tree with a dark red color!
Wu wu wu … All of the wild wolves were furious. They fiercely glared at Zhang Minghai as waves of noises came from their mouths.
Zhang Minghai sneered and shouted, "Come on! "Let's attack together!"
The wild wolf seemed to have understood Zhang Minghai's provocation and attacked Zhang Minghai from the front and back. Zhang Minghai's hands were quick and quick as he stabbed the wolf in front of him with his spear.
The two wild wolves were heavily injured and fell to the ground. Their wounds bled profusely, and the dead leaves on the grass were quickly dyed red. The smell of blood filled the air, and the two wolves quickly stopped twitching.
Perhaps angered by the blood, the entire pack of wolves began to stir up, baring their teeth as they stared at Zhang Minghai. Their green, long eyes were filled with hatred!
Zhang Minghai also became braver as the fight continued. He took the opportunity to see some of the wolves eagerly trying to get closer to him. Without any hesitation, Zhang Minghai thrust out his javelin, the force of it was so strong that the wolf had already given up before even having the chance to struggle.
At this moment, the pack of wolves began to anxiously retreat. Zhang Minghai held his breath as he tightly gripped the javelins in his hand, completely alert.
"Come on, come on over if you're not afraid of death. Let your soldier grandpa send you on your way!" Zhang Minghai arrogantly shouted as he waved the javelin in his hand, brimming with killing intent.
"Awoo!" A mournful wolf howl reverberated throughout the entire forest.
Only now did Zhang Minghai realize that the so-called 'Wolf King' was even bigger than all the other wolves. Its gray fur was shiny, and it gave off a mighty aura, its pair of black and white eyes were staring straight at Zhang Minghai, as if it was going to swallow him whole.
Zhang Minghai waved the javelin in his hand, pointed it at the Wolf King, and said with full of killing intent, "If you want to die, then stay here! If you don't want to die, scram!"
"Scram!"
"Aowu!" The Wolf King let out a howl of grief and indignation before turning its head to look at Zhang Minghai. It then took the lead to head deeper into the forest, while the other wolves followed suit.
