301 The Three Heavenly Knight
Seeing the stupid look on his face, Damien chuckled, "Close it, or you might swallow a bug."
Roy closed shut his mouth after being made fun of.
Damien braced the cold effortlessly and walked towards the mansion. Roy followed after him like a baby duck chasing after his mana. Their footsteps were left on the snow, creating a trail. Snow started falling from the sky. It was snowing only on the mountain. Not a trace of snow could be seen on the villager. The snow quickly filled the depression in the snow, covering up their footsteps.
Roy's eyes glistened as he felt excited.
'The Glorious Sun Emperor is the strongest man in the Empire, but he reached that point after merging with the divine soul shard and becoming a divine soul herder. The three heavenly knights, on the other hand, are the second, third, and fourth strongest of the empire. They wouldn't have received that title otherwise.
'They are better known by the people as the divine guardians of the empire. Their identity is yet to be made public. Even though their performance in the warring period was said to be better than the dukes, they weren't given land or conferred a rank of nobility.
'The emperor was ready to split his land with them, but they readily refused and redirected whatever was given to them to the people affected by the war, saving many lives. Thus, they became the crowd's favorite.'
Roy recalled a few things about them.
They were revered and respected. Though, their identity was a well-kept secret within the empire. No one knew who they were, but everyone knew that they were their lucky stars.
'Even in the book, they are mentioned only a few times. Readers like me were kept in the dark. That stingy author made us interested in these characters with a single line.'
Roy quoted that line in his mind: "If the three heavenly knights had stuck together, then ever after the emperor was taken out of the picture, Chaos would never have succeeded in overthrowing the empire."
'That's the same as saying that Chaos would have lost the war if they were working against it hand in hand.'
Roy's eyes twinkled profoundly. Sunset_never_bloom was his favorite author. In his previous life, he had invested a lot of time in reading his novel, the Battlefield of the ancient Gods.
He had read it thoroughly.
Thanks to this, he discovered several secret passages, messages that the author hid in his note, published in his discord, or in the chapter's name.
They were similar to eastern eggs.
Connecting them allowed him to realize what happened to important characters, such as the three heavenly knights.
The second heavenly knight died a day after the emperor was assassinated. He came to the capital to investigate his death and was also assassinated. His last words were, "You too? H-how... could *Spitting blood* you betray us??"
The third heavenly knight died when the north fell.
The first heavenly knight never made his appearance. It's suspected that he was either secretly taken out or refused to fight Chaos for some reason.
Roy suspected that if he hadn't died, then there was a good chance that he was the one behind the emperor and the second heavily knight's death. But what reason could he have to abandon his home and the people he has gone to war with? Thus, he discarded that theory and chose to believe that he was killed. The author never made it clear what happened to him or where he was during the invasion of Chaos. If he had, Roy wouldn't be dealing with headaches today.
'Whatever! Now that I am here, I will make sure they don't fall prey to its plot. I will change their fate." Roy was excited about being of help to them for two reasons. 'Helping them would net me a reward from the system and make things difficult for Chaos. Heh, heh, heh!'
"Why are you laughing so creepily?"
Suddenly, Roy heard Damien's voice. His words helped him realize he was laughing out loud.
"No reason." After speaking, he blocked his own mouth with his hands.
Then, he started plotting.
First off, to help someone, you need to find out who they are.
Thankfully, he knew the identity of one of them.
He was certain Arlo, aka Arnard, was one of the three heavenly knights.
There were several reasons why he believed that.
Some of them are as follows.
1: Arlo was the strongest person he had met so far.
2: According to his knowledge, the imperial teacher, a man with the power of clairvoyance, confirmed that the third heavenly knight had dead right when the leader of the dragonkin died.
The people in the capital mourned the death of their guardian angel.
At the same time, on the other side of the world, where the war was still raging on, the Dragon's Disciples mourned the death of their leader and launched a deadly assault on the forces of Chaos, killing tens of thousands of them before vanishing into the dark.
After connecting the dot, Roy concluded that Arnard Leglalz Orlando Baldwin was the leader of the Dragon's Disciple, and his other identity was the empire's fourth strongest, the black-armored heavenly knight.
'He is the third heavenly knight for sure.' A thoughtful look appeared on the schemer's face. 'I have found out who one of the three is. And I can find out the identity of the first heavenly knights from Damien. He most likely knows who he is.' Roy's eyes narrowed. 'But will he share that with me?'
Trying wasn't gonna hurt. With this thought in mind, he opened his mouth and shot question after question at Damien.
"You have met him? I am a big fan of his." Roy caught up to him and blinked his eyes at him cutely. "Cousin~ can you tell me who he is and what does he look like?"
"Don't act like that." Damien pushed his face, which was awfully close to him, away. "It's disgusting."
His words dealt 9999 points of emotional damage to Roy, and he coughed out a mouthful of imaginary blood.
