351 Help
“Not only one but various worlds?” Stefan blurted out, confused. “Wouldn’t that lead to the chain breaking in multiple places?”
“And what will happen if the chain gets broken down in multiple places at the same time?”
If the chain gets broken down in multiple places?
As much as Kairen knew, if the chain belonging to a place, thing, person, or soul was broken down unnaturally, or in other terms, if fate got twisted by an outside element, then disaster would befall that world, thing, person, or anything else. The disaster would be the complete elimination and annihilation of that specific object or person alongside the destruction of their chain. When this happened, the unnaturally eliminated object or person would be transferred to The Void, the place where Kairen resembled the universe’s trashcan.
“Wouldn’t a huge part of the universe fall into The Void?”
Reynold nodded his head in Kairen’s response.
“And it won’t only be a huge part of the universe... If the chain gets broken beyond its limits, then the rest of the chain won’t be able to bear the burden and will eventually collapse. As its name suggests, it’s a chain, a chain is a chain when it has all its parts connected to the other, it is not some kind of a building that can go on even if a few pillars of it get destroyed. In other words, destroying almost half of the chain will result in the whole thing gradually destroying itself as the damage is too much that it can’t repair itself. Meanwhile, more and more worlds and people will join The Void, and this will keep up until the whole universe has transformed to The Void.”
As Reynold explained, the expressions of the people inside the room became more and more serious. They were starting to understand the severity of the problem the more Reynold went into the details.
‘If the whole universe transforms into The Void, then doesn’t that mean that in some sense, The Void will become the universe?
.....
If the whole universe turns into The Void, then there won’t be an ‘outside world’ or the ‘worlds of the living,’ anymore. Then, wouldn’t it make the people who live in The Void feel like they are actually alive? Even if they feel alive, they are not alive... They can’t age, die, or have children... Will there be light here if the whole universe is sucked in here, or will everyone be forced to live in this suffocating darkness? If such a thing happens, then how will the dead souls come back to life? I was told that there is indeed a circle in which the dead souls reincarnate and start new lives. If the whole universe enters The Void, and the people of The Void are the dead souls who can’t have children anymore, then where will those souls who seek new lives go? Wait, won’t it be too chaotic if all of the worlds in the universe enter here? Will this place get divided into various worlds or will all of the worlds merge together and form a united world? If that happens, there might be great wards here in order to declare territory or choose a ruler... Or maybe not? These people are all dead so they won’t probably care about such matters... In the future, this place will either be too peaceful or freakingly chaotic.’
All kinds of thoughts raced in Kairen’s mind, making his attention wander away from the main topic of the conversation and think of various questions and problems that would arise if the thing that Reynold was talking about happened for real. However, his attention was soon turned back to the topic at hand after he heard Kain’s question.
“But does he really have the power to do such a thing?”
Reynold thought for a moment while tilting his head as if contemplating how to simplify the answer so that these people could understand it.
“Well, it can be said that, even if he doesn’t have the power to do it right away, he will eventually manage to gain that power. After all, he had been preparing for this plan for thousands of years, if not more, no less than that. He doesn’t have the necessary power, but he has the ability to do so.”
In short, the man would be able to complete his plan if he was left alone and no one interrupted him.
“How come you didn’t notice this lunatic’s plan this whole time? He must’ve been preparing for this for a long time.”
Reynold was silent for a few seconds before letting out a sigh.
“I knew that he is plotting something, but I didn’t know what it might be, and didn’t expect him to be this crazy. I thought as long as I did what I intended to do, I would play my role in this universe and that would be enough to keep everything as it was. It is also to say, time flows differently in different worlds, so I couldn’t know how long he’d spent on preparing that grave plan.”
Reynold explained, but in Kairen’s point of view, those words seem like empty excuses a kid would give his parents for getting a low grade on a test, saying that it was because the teacher was not a good one. The redhead’s words were logical, but not completely. It made Kairen sure once again that this man was indeed hiding something. Well, it was kinda natural to have some secrets if you’ve lived for such a long time, right?
“So? What do you want us to do?”
Kairen didn’t hesitate to jump back to the main topic and ask the question that was in his mind since the beginning. What could he do in a situation like this? He wasn’t considered strong or intelligent, he was rather a burden for the others all the time.
“Nothing much, just help me destroy a link.”
“A link?”
“That’s right. The devices that Samuel uses are all created in a way that they would be connected to each other via a... let’s not go deep in the details. They are connected to each other in some ways that make them able to operate at the same time, enabling them to turn on all at once, so that the worlds could be destroyed altogether. What I want to do is to interfere with this link by creating another device right here, in The Void. I will tell you how to make it and what you need to do in order to operate it, so there is no need to worry about that. It’s not something hard and won’t take you a long time.”
The three people in the room couldn’t really get what Reynold wanted to achieve by building a device here, but they had no choice but to nod their heads and trust his decisions as he was the one who was most knowledgeable among them.
“So, why would I be needed here?”
Kairen asked again, knowing that there were enough people, no, enough souls in The Void who could help Reynold build this device. They were more capable and more powerful than him and were clearly a better choice than Kairen who had little knowledge about this kind of stuff.
“You don’t have to do anything while we are building the device, but you have to help me create a link with it.”
Kairen tilted his head.
“Didn’t we want to destroy a link?”
“We are destroying a link by creating another one. You have to then spread that link and connect it to the device that is in your world. I’m talking about the thing that Stefan and his generals destroyed. That is only a beta form of the device that Samuel creates, but it’s still good. You have to link that thing with The Void.”
‘Wait, that device is still in our world? I thought it got destroyed and maybe vanished alongside the castle... That means I have to also find that castle...’
Kairen didn’t say anything and stared at Reynold, contemplating his choices. The man in front of him had still not explained why he needed Kairen’s help in doing this, and what would happen after they linked these two devices. There were also lots of questions in Kairen’s mind that he wanted to find an answer to, but he kept himself from asking them at the moment, waiting for the right time to come.
However, one thing was certain for him. Reynold said that he needed to link the two devices, one of them in The Void and the other in his world. This meant that he would definitely be sent back to his world sooner or later.
“Alright.”
Kairen nodded his head.
“But you have to answer my questions before I do anything.”
“Sure.”
Reynold gave him a cold but firm response and stood up. Before Kairen could ask him where he was going, the redhead pointed at Stefan and ‘ordered’ him.
“Gather some people by tomorrow and also as many materials as you can. I’ll write down the things that you need to collect.”
“...Yes.”
Stefan nodded, still a little bit dazed but also with determination in his eyes.
