Xiaoman’s Handicraft Class (1)

After singing the alphabet for many days, Jiang Xiaoman could finally somewhat sing it.

She was so happy that she wanted to sing it out loud next time for all the children to hear and let them all praise her for being smart!

But!

Cold water was soon poured on her burning spirit!

Teacher Yang said they weren’t going to sing the alphabet song anymore. They were doing handicraft lessons instead!

Although Xiaoman had worked hard for so long, she didn’t get to sing it and let others praise her for being smart. She felt like she a wearing a beautiful dress in the middle of the night where no one could see her. It was a bit annoying, but children were children, and unfamiliar things attracted them.

Yu Qingshi had also told her about the handicraft class before, but she hadn’t participated in one yet.

Jiang Xiaoman ignorantly asked, “What is a handicraft class?”

Teacher Yang thought that this child had never participated in one before, and patiently explained, “It is doing handicrafts to train the children’s dexterity. Follow Teacher’s instructions to make something.”

“What are we making?”

Jiang Xiaoman scratched her head and thought about it. She guessed Yu Qingshi might be lonely. After all, whenever she had business and had to leave, Grandma would entrust her to the grandma next door.

So, Jiang Xiaoman sent him a friendly invitation. “Then, do you want to come to my house for dinner?”

“...Oh, no, thank you.” Yu Qingshi quickly explained. “I mean, your uncle is also very busy. I don’t know when they will come back.”

Yes, lately Uncle had not come home.

Jiang Xiaoman sniffed, wanting to cry a little bit.

That was the way she always was; whenever she felt like crying, her tears would come out right away.

After bidding farewell to Yu Qingshi, Jiang Xiaoman and Grandma went home.

Uncle was still not at home today, and the two felt a bit lonely.

The city was always quiet. Jiang Xiaoman discovered she occasionally still missed the days in the village.

“Xiaoman, do you have any homework to do?” Jiang Xiumei asked after dinner.

Jiang Xiaoman had been very diligent recently. Whenever she got home, she would write and draw and even said that she wanted to learn the English alphabet. But nothing of the sort happened today, so Jiang Xiumei was very curious.

“Yes, I have to make a flower basket,” Jiang Xiaoman said. “I should be able to finish it soon.”

Jiang Xiumei looked at her and wanted to help, but Jiang Xiaoman refused and tried to do it by herself.
