My wife and I were troubled by the harsh summer sun in the City of Torquiva.
We had received a letter from our daughter Opika, who works as a slave in this city, and we decided to travel all the way here to see her, even if it was just for a glance…..
After entering the city and walking up the main street, I was overwhelmed by how busy the city is.
Well built horse drawn carriages with piles of wooden crates were constantly coming and going, people were drinking and singing even though it’s daytime, and chomping on some kind of delicious looking food that I couldn’t figure out what.
My wife, who was also born in the countryside, and I were bewildered by the festivities as if thanksgiving and harvest festivals were held together and we did not know where to go.
We wandered from place to place like the country bumpkins we were and before we knew it, we had missed out our lunch hour.
「Torquiva is an incredible place.」
「It’s simply too crowded. Where do you think Opika is?」
「Let’s ask the people around here.」
「Let’s do that. Though there are a lot of people here, I’m sure some of them knows Opika.」
I decided to talk to a boarkin who was reading a wall newspaper nearby.
「Excuse me.」
「What’s up, goat uncle?」
「I’m looking for our daughter who works in this city. Her name is Opika, do you know her?」
「Unfortunately, no. I don’t know any goatkin.」
「I see.」
「Do you know where she works?」
「I heard she works for a family called Schenker.」
「Ah, the Schenker family’s factory is right there. Go straight down this street and at the end of the street, turn right.」
「Thank you very much.」
「Thank you.」
「No no, I hope you see her soon.」
What a nice man.
My wife and I quickly left the main street and walked down the street the man pointed at.
The stores, people, and house decorations were all things I had never seen before in my hometown and I was excited beyond my years.
I think I see a group of female adventurers in red armor and then a princess-like woman astride a unicorn, followed by her attendants, pass by.
A silver knight in a surcoat with an embroidered dragon on the back was carrying a big sword that seemed to be dragged on the ground.
It’s amazing. It’s just like the world of plays I heard about.
「They’re kind of amazing.」
「Yeah, it’s like something out of a fairy tale.」
「I think that stall over there is the food we saw on the main street. Let’s buy one.」
「Let’s not if it’s too expensive.」
A young lady was working alone on a stall with “Hotdog” written on the sign, dangling her legs on a chair as if she was not busy.
I hope it’s not because it’s past lunch time or because there’s a problem with the taste.
「How much for one?」
「Welcome, three coppers.」
「Ah, I’ll have one then.」
「Okay」
The girl put the stone grain like magic crystals into a steel plate shaped magic tool and rolled a big sausage on it.
Maybe it’s only half of that thing.
Even though it’s indeed a rich breadbasket city, it doesn’t mean that even meat is cheap.
「Do you like some mustard?」
「Do you usually put that?」
「Some customers nowadays says, “a hotdog is not a hotdog unless it’s spicy”.」
「Then, please.」
「Okay. Customer, are you not from here by any chance? You speak a bit eastern.」
The girl was very dexterous with her hands as she cut a long, thin loaf of bread with a knife. Also, is my accent that strong?
「You are right. I am from a place near Hanaiera.」
「He he, I’m also from the east so I can tell even if it’s only vaguely.」
She gave me a thumbs up with a flowery smile as she said that. I guess she’s a wonderful lover.
