Chapter 420: Chapter 389 New World_1

“Elder Brother Mu, it’s time to eat!”

The girl pushed open the door and called out to Xu Mu, who was sitting on the bed with his eyes closed, meditating.

“Oh!”

Xu Mu replied and opened his eyes, a trace of disappointment flashing through his deep gaze.

I can’t see the Nascent Soul again!

Today is the seventh day since Xu Mu arrived in this different world.

Why different world, you ask? Because it is highly dissimilar to the Cultivation World he used to inhabit.

Firstly, and most importantly, there is no Spiritual Energy here!

Yet, it’s distinct from the Land of Absolute Soul as mentioned in the Immortal World.

In the Land of Absolute Soul in the Immortal World, there is not only an absence of Spiritual Energy but also life, as the essence of everything lies in Spiritual Energy!

However, mysteriously enough, this world, other than its absence of Spiritual Energy, isn’t much different from the Cultivation World.

There are plants, natural treasures, mountains, rivers, countless creatures, insects, fish, birds, humans, beasts, and all kinds of life forms.

Apart from the trouble of missing Spiritual Energy, Xu Mu also encountered anomalies in his own body.

He has lost his sense of the Nascent Soul inside his body, and his painstakingly cultivated Spiritual Power seems to have evaporated into thin air.

If it weren’t for the power remaining in his physical body, he would doubt everything he has experienced before!

In the past few days, he shut himself away, constantly attempting various methods to no avail.

Sighing inwardly, Xu Mu was about to lift his torso using both his hands when he suddenly remembered, his right arm was no longer there, and neither was half of his right leg.

The reason for their disappearance was probably the result of being cut off by spatial forces whilst traversing space-time turbulence.

The loss of his arm and a lower leg didn’t bother Xu Mu that much, as long as he could restore his cultivation, he is capable of regenerating his lost limbs.

To survive the turbulence of space, merely losing an arm and a leg was indeed a bargain.

What really upsets Xu Mu is the loss of his Sky-splitting Halberd.

The Sky-splitting Halberd was held in his right hand, now that the right hand was lost, naturally his halberd was lost too.

The Sky-splitting Halberd was not just priceless, but also something that helped him overcome numerous obstacles. Losing it feels deeply distressing.

“Elder Brother Mu, let me help you!”

The young girl quickly came forward to assist him.

“No need!”

Xu Mu smiled and quickly stood up with a little effort of his left hand. Using the wooden stick tied to his left leg, he maintained balance and awkwardly walked towards the door.

‘I should look for an opportunity to make a prosthetic limb for myself. Just relying on this single wooden stick is too inconvenient.’

Despite the absence of Spiritual Energy, with his Tier-Ten Puppetry Technique, making a prosthetic hand or leg for daily living was not a difficult task.

It’s just that, he had been trying to restore his cultivation, so he had been improvising with a wooden stick.

The girl watching Xu Mu unharmed, paused and turned to walk out with him, but her large watery eyes couldn’t help but occasionally glance at his left leg.

“Yue, what’s for dinner today?” Xu Mu asked casually.

“Uncle Nan Hu caught two bamboo rats and dug up some purple fern roots!” Yue answered with a smile.

“Looks like Uncle Nan Hu had some good luck today!” Xu Mu laughed.

Even though his true age could make him the forefather of the others, he looked young. If he didn’t address them, it would seem impolite.

Just outside the house was a rugged wilderness, the middle-aged man with graying hair, also known as Uncle Nan Hu to them, was sitting in front of the fire roasting a plump bamboo rat. There was a grilling rack on the side, a few large bamboo tubes on the grill with a slight constant emission of steam which, on contact with the fire, produced crackling noises.

Xu Mu sat down on a rock near the fire, instantly hit by the rich aroma of meat mixed with a faint sweet scent wafting to his nose.

Yue quickly walked to the grill, carefully took a section of the bamboo and placed it in front of Xu Mu. She then peeled off the top half of it, revealing a hot, dark purple root inside the bamboo.

That was the Purple Fern Root Yue mentioned, it possessed a taste similar to taro from his previous world, only slightly more bitter. Even though it smelled sweet, it didn’t particularly taste so.

But in this wilderness, there was not much else to eat, apart from these.

As for meat, there were mainly bamboo rats, and that was only an occasional treat.

‘Who would have thought that as a Nascent Soul True Monarch, I would actually end up having to eat ordinary human food.’

Xu Mu let out a self-depreciating laugh internally.

The reason why cultivators don’t need to eat is because they use spiritual energy as a substitute, and this world doesn’t have spiritual energy.

He had no cultivation base and couldn’t sense the God Refining Tripod, making it impossible for him to replace food with pills.

If he doesn’t eat, he really could starve to death.

Xu Mu picked up the chopsticks made of bamboo and started to eat heartily.

The taste of these plant stems was barely palatable when hot. If allowed to cool, it would taste like chewing on tree roots.

“Have some meat with it!”

Nan Hu expressionlessly handed over a roasted bamboo rat to Xu Mu.

“Thank you, Uncle Nan Hu!”

Xu Mu thanked him, received the bamboo rat, and started eating.

Nan Hu picked up another one and, using a delicate little knife, cut the fattest part of the hind leg for Yue. He ate the other half himself.

“How is your body doing?”

After eating, Nan Hu asked while covering the fire.

“It’s almost fully recovered.” Xu Mu replied.

“Since that’s the case, you should head down the mountain soon. Life on the mountain is hard and not suitable for you,” Nan Hu stated bluntly.

Yue, who was cleaning up the bamboo tubes on the side, involuntarily shivered. She silently turned her back, burying her head in her knees.

“I had the same intention. Thank you and Yue for your care these days. I truly have nothing to repay you,” Xu Mu said with a smile.

He had already noticed that Nan Hu didn’t particularly like him. The reason he took him in was probably because of Yue.

The reason Yue wanted to shelter him was likely due to the purity and kindness of young people.

“I didn’t shelter you for repayment. After you leave, just don’t mention that you met us,” Nan Hu said coldly.

“In that case, I will take my leave!”

Xu Mu stood up, intending to bow and salute. When he raised his arm, he realized he only had one hand, so he simply changed to lowering his body in gratitude. He then turned around and headed down the mountain.

Not long after he left, hurried footsteps sounded from behind him. Xu Mu turned his head and, sure enough, it was Yue. She was carrying properly tied animal skins, several pieces of smoked meat, and a waterskin, her eyes red as she ran in front of Xu Mu.

“Although the village is not far away, these items will still be safer with you. You can sell this roe deer skin for money!” Yue said, lowering her head slightly.

“Thank you!”

Xu Mu didn’t hold back in accepting her sincere offer.

“You must be careful on the road!” urged Yue.

“Don’t worry, I am capable! Take good care of yourself and stay with Uncle Nan Hu, we’ll have the chance to meet again!” Xu Mu chuckled.

Yue looked at him silently, her eyes full of reluctance.

Xu Mu probably understood why Nan Hu was anxious to send him away. If he stayed any longer, it was likely this young girl would fall completely in love with him.

There was no way around it. He was, after all, a cultivator at the Nascent Soul Stage. Although his cultivation was currently absent, he still had his appearance and temperament. Living off his looks was not a difficult task.

For Yue, a naive young girl who hadn’t experienced much of the outside world, it would be strange if she didn’t have feelings for him after spending so much time together.

“I am leaving!”

Xu Mu took the items, turned around and strode away. It wasn’t until his figure completely disappeared that Yue, filled with sadness, returned.

“Don’t be sad. That boy is not ordinary. If we kept him here, we would bring more trouble upon ourselves,” Nan Hu stated with a furrowed brow.

Anybody could tell a handsome young man, dressed in a manner that was not common, lying abruptly in the wilderness, was not ordinary.

If it weren’t for the young girl’s repeated pleas, and the absence of martial training on Xu Mu, he wouldn’t have invited such trouble willingly.

The young girl bit her lip and lowered her head, not saying a word.

She had been following Nan Hu from a very young age, hiding everywhere to avoid revealing their whereabouts. Having hardly interacted with outsiders, she had finally made a friend of the same age, who was also handsome. She didn’t want to abandon him easily.

Seeing the girl’s extreme reluctance, Nan Hu shook his head helplessly. He could understand her feelings, but was not able to accept her plea.

Even if Xu Mu’s origin was extraordinary, a cultivator who was disabled and unable to cultivate was not suitable for their lives.

Now that they were finding it hard to protect themselves, it was even more impossible to invite further complications.

“Clean up, let’s leave here too!”
