Chapter 42: Thank You

AUGUST/MAI/MAIJUNE'S ROOM

Maijune picked a set of pyjamas and handed them over to Liyah as soon as they entered the room. She pointed at the bathroom saying 'you can wash up there'.

'Alright!!' Liyah took the pyjamas and went into the bathroom and heard Maijune murmuring 'assh, no matter what she does, I can't bring myself to like her'.

Liyah chuckled replying as she turned on the shower 'I heard that Maijune'.

'I said that for you to hear'

AARON'S ROOM.

Aaron sat on the bed after changing into his nightwear and his phone buzzed. He picked it up and answered saying 'yes?'

'Yes? What kind of response is that Aaron? I called you inform you that everything is ready for tomorrow and you dare answer the phone with a yes? What an ungrateful bastard'.

Leo Martins whined on the other side.

'Okay, I will see you tomorrow then'.

Aaron hanged up before Leo could say another word and murmured 'such a talkative'.

AUGUST/MAI/MAIJUNE'S ROOM.

Liyah walked out of the bathroom wearing the pyjamas and saw that Maijune had divided the bed into two sides with three pillows.

She chuckled and walked to the vanity table to blow her hair as she started a conversation with Maijune who pretended to be asleep.

'Am I a man? Did you have to divide the bed like that? We are both ladies'.

Maijune closed her eyes ignoring her

'are you sleeping?'

'Can't you tell? Stop talking already?' Maijune said grudgingly and laid flatly looking at the ceiling.

'Someone who is asleep wouldn't be replying me right now?'

'Were you always this talkative?'

'Yes, didn't you know? Oh, right. Aaron didn't tell you, right?'

'Aaron? Will you stop calling him by that? I've being holding it in since Aaron Saint was around, but, how dare you call him affectionately like that? Do you still have feelings for him?'

Liyah smiled and turned off the light, removing the pluck from the socket and turned to face Maijune.

'I guess this trait runs through all of you. August and Mai also warned me to stop calling Aaron by his first name'.

'And you still dare to do it?'

'I can't help it. That's how I've always addressed him by and no, I don't have feelings for him. Right now, I don't have the luxury to feel anything for anyone. I just want to fight for what's mine'

Liyah said and walked to the empty side of the bed and laid down covering her lower body with the covers.

'So, you really broke up with Josh Saint?'

'Yes, for real this time. I feel peaceful about it too. I guess he was a burden I didn't want to recognise nor let go'.

'I only asked you a yes or no question, did you have to be so melancholic and tell me about your feelings? You're such a woman'.

'I know, right? Maybe is a sign I am comfortable around you?'

Maijune cocked her eyes at her saying 'comfortable? I feel really uncomfortable with you right now. I wouldn't have believed it if someone had said you and me would be sharing a bed together in the future. You're such a bitch'.

'That's my line'. Liyah said.

Maijune closed her eyes saying 'you should get some sleep; tomorrow is a tough day for you'.

'I can't sleep. I feel confused and alone. Now that I think about it, I never had a friend all my life. I grew up with my parents, I was treated like a princess and then one day my parents died and left me alone. I moved in with my grandma and Rowena joined us afterwards'

'I would have found you pitiful but I am not one to pity people. But, I will say this once since you seem like you might need a little bit of motivation right now. You're not a really bad person, so everything will work out well for you eventually'.

'Did you just praise me?' Liyah smiled.

'Goodnight Miss Myers'.

In the middle of the night, the two girls that seemed so different realised in their hearts that, they actually had a lot in common than they would admit and their difference in how they view life was going to be what will bring them closer to each other.

They didn't know that fate was a cruel reality and that their lives were intertwined in ways they couldn't fathom.

NEXT DAY [MORNING].

FOUR HOURS TO THE SHAREHOLDERS MEETING.

Maijune walked downstairs after washing up and changing into her usual black jeans and a tan top. She saw Liyah having breakfast prepared by Aunt Cate.

Liyah saw Maijune and pointed at the chair next to her saying 'come and sit here and have your breakfast'.

Maijune found her behaviour obnoxious and took a seat two chairs away from Liyah and said 'this is my house, I sit wherever I want' Liyah chuckled and went back to eating her breakfast.

Aunt Cate served Maijune her breakfast while stealing glances at both girls.

Maijune sighed and looked at Aunt Cate explaining 'she is just here for today. I don't like her either so, don't worry. This is the last time we are seeing her'.

Liyah looked at her unbelievably saying 'how could you say that after we shared a bed together last night?'

'That's why I'm changing the sheets and pillows today. I am going to remove every trace of you from this house'.

Aunt Cate saw Aaron walking down. He signalled her to keep quiet and they watched Maijune and Liyah continue to bicker.

'I'm keeping the pyjamas in my bag. Who knows, I might come here for a ladies' night with you'.

'Don't you dare'

'Aren't you two tired of going back and forth?' Aaron asked taking a seat next to Maijune.

'She is seriously really not my cup of coffee'. Maijune said.

'Is usually not my cup of tea. I've noticed you always mixed your vocabularies together'. Liyah said and pursed her lips.

'Are you saying I can't even understand English?' Maijune was outraged.

'Not that'

'Ladies, stop. Can we eat? I have something to tell you afterwards, Maijune'.

Liyah and Maijune looked at him at once saying in unison 'what?'

They looked at each other and turned back to eating their breakfast quietly.

Aunt Cate shook her head and went back to doing her chores. Aaron had called her early that morning and told her about Liyah's presence. She wasn't happy about it, but seeing how Liyah got along with the young miss and how Aaron didn't see any problem with that, she decided to also keep quiet about it. After all, she didn't have the right to say anything.
