Liyah watched nervously as Dr. Kash checked on August. Immediately she saw the girl looking at her, Liyah screamed and ran out calling Dr. Kash and he came in with the senior nurse.
Dr. Kash checked August's eyes, her temperature and pulse. He also checked her heartbeat and turned to Liyah 'she looks fine to me but, we will have to run some tests and see'.
'Kash, is she really okay?' Liyah asked again as she sat beside August.
'Yes, don't worry. She is fine. All her wounds are healed and she looks fine. Have you called Aaron to tell him yet?' Kash asked.
'No, his number is not going through but, he called earlier and said he would be here by night time'. Liyah said holding August's hand.
'Okay, the tests results will be out by then. The nurse will take her blood samples to the laboratory'.
'Okay, thank you'.
'Will you be here till Aaron comes?' Kash asked.
'Yes, nobody is here. I don't want August to feel lonely'. Liyah said.
'What happened to me?' August asked turning to Liyah. Liyah and Dr. Kash looked at each other before Kash approached her and asked suspiciously.
'Don't you remember what happened to you?' August shook her head.
'How long have I been here? Did I get into another accident? Why can't I remember anything?' August asked.
'August, calm down. You indeed had an accident a year ago and you've been here since then. As for why you can't remember it, I will have to look into it'. Kash explained to her adding 'but, do you remember me?' August nodded her head.
'Yes, you're Dr. Kash, she is Liyah Myers and there is Leo Martins too, right? The one you've fallen for'. Liyah blushed and pinched August softly.
'Hey, did you have to say that out loud'. Liyah said.
'Yes, I am Dr. Kash, she is Liyah Myers and there is Leo Martins, but I think you're forgetting someone important than us?' Kash said.
'Who?' August looked at him confused.
'Aaron Saint, silly. How could you not mention his name?' Liyah added.
August looked at them confused and asked.
'Aaron Saint? Who is that? Is he someone I know?' Her question made everyone inside dumbfounded and they looked at each other.
'August, you don't know who Aaron Saint is?' Kash asked with caution.
'No, who is he?' Kash looked at Liyah and signalled for her to meet him outside. Liyah helped August to lay back in the bed and said to her 'August, I will be right back, okay?' Liyah followed Kash out and the nurse started to draw August's blood.
'What was that about? How can she not know who Aaron is?' Liyah asked as soon as she closed the door and stood outside with Kash.
'Liyah, I think August has selective cognitive remembrance syndrome'.
'What? I don't understand those terms. Explain in a language I will understand'. Liyah told Kash.
'Is simply like this. She has selective amnesia. It happens when a patient forgets important parts of their lives and remembers only the recent ones. Is like this. People or things she did recently are embedded in her memory but things or people she knew previously are missing in her memory'.
'What? Is there something like that? I thought this only existed in the movies or kdrama but this is actually real?' Liyah said unbelievably. 'Aaron is going to be devastated when he finds out about this'.
'I know'. Kash added.
'How do we tell him? The fact that August doesn't remember anything about him is bizarre in itself. Honestly, Kash, I don't think I have the heart to tell Aaron any of this'.
Liyah said and looked at the hallway and saw Aaron standing there 'Aaron? When did you get here?' Liyah asked as Aaron walked closer to them.
'What don't you have the heart to tell me? Is there something wrong with August? Is she dead?' Aaron asked fearing the answer he would get.
'No, not at all'. Liyah told him. Aaron touched his heart for a moment and calmed down asking again 'then what is it that you can't tell me about?'
'Aaron, there is something I need to tell you'. Kash said.
'What is it? Is August alright?' Aaron asked.
'Yes, in fact, August is awake'. Aaron turned to rush in as soon as he heard him and Kash held his hand shaking his head.
'What? August is finally awake; I need to see her'. Aaron insisted.
'Aaron, I need to tell you something first'.
'I will be inside with August'. Liyah said and went inside.
'What is it? Is August sick again? Tell me Kash?' Aaron said impatiently.
'August is fine for now. She woke up an hour ago but, she doesn't remember who you are' Kash said sadly.
'What do you mean? How can she not remember me?' Aaron asked.
'What I mean is…' Kash explained August's condition to Aaron and he sat down on the bench by the ward feeling devastated.
August was fast asleep by the time Aaron managed to calm himself and entered the ward. Liyah covered August with the covers and picked her bag saying to Aaron 'I will leave you two alone. There is something I need to go and settle'.
'Go ahead, and call Leo, he is worried about you'. Aaron told her.
'Did he call you?' Liyah asked.
'Yes, he called me this morning saying you two had a fight. Just go and settle it, you're not kids and Leo really cares about you, Liyah. But, the choice is yours. As you can see, I'm not really in the best position to be giving you advice when I'm stuck myself'.
Liyah smiled and peeked his cheek saying 'don't worry, you will be fine. I will call you later'. Liyah patted Aaron on his shoulder and went out.
Aaron looked at the girl sleeping and put his head on the bed tiredly.
D-CITY MILITARY BASE BARRACKS.
ENTRANCE GATE.
Liyah pulled over and rolled down her window screen and greeted the soldier at the gate.
'Hi, please could you inform Mr. Martins that Liyah Myers is here to see him?'
The soldier at the gate widened his eyes. It was clear he was surprised to see her. The soldier calmed himself and smiled at Liyah before screaming enthusiastically 'sister in law, you're welcome to the barracks'.
Liyah looked at him in shock and confusion. Sister in law? When did she become somebody's sister in law without her knowledge?' The soldier immediately opened the gate and gestured to Liyah to drive in. Liyah drove in feeling confused.
The soldier immediately removed his phone and entered into their chatroom and typed
'sister in law just arrived at the base. I never thought I would be fortunate to be the first to receive sister in law. She is even more beautiful than in the pictures'
The moment the soldier sent the text, the chatroom blew up in flames as the soldiers started chatting exuberantly. Previously, their captain had returned to the base looking gloomy and angry. when they asked him he screamed at them saying their sister in law was playing hard to get.
It was then that they knew they had a sister in law, they only managed to see her photo from their captain's screensaver and she was very beautiful. They even comforted him saying pretty girls were all like that and he should just give in to her.
Little did they know that their sister in law would visit tonight. Especially, now that their boss was also out. The soldier at the gate intentionally allowed Liyah to go in without informing her of their captain's absence because he felt they needed to throw in some few words in their captain's favour.
Off course Liyah didn't know that the soldier at the front gate had told everyone about her, hence when she pulled over after seeing a lot of soldiers running out towards her, she felt she was in trouble. Liyah decided to pull over and get down before informing them in case they thought of her as an intruder but to her biggest surprise the moment she got down, the soldiers lined up in front of her and greeted her simultaneously.
'Sister in law, welcome home'.
Liyah pursed her lips. She didn't know what to make of the current situation.
