Sky hotel.
Brenda pulled over and they all got down from the car. all the others were in jean pants and tops; Kristine wore a short purple chevron dress that reached to her knees. When they reached the restaurant of the hotel, Kristine immediately spotted Ronald sitting a distance away from her.
''We will sit over there and wait. Don't worry about anything and just focus on making him yours'' Jenny said.
''If he tries anything funny, just kick him where the sun doesn't shine and call for backup'' Brenda added.
''Go, he is waving at you'' Chloe said Ronald waving at Kris.
''I will go right away'' Kristine held her purse tightly and walked towards Ronald while the girls went over to sit at a corner where they could see them clearly.
''You came with backup?'' Ronald said as he stood up. He went behind her and pulled out the chair saying, ''sit down, my lady''
Kristine nodded and sat down. she looked at him and found him looking back, ''why are you looking at me like that?''
''I just find you more interesting the more I get to know you. The way your friends protect you is cute''
''We protect each other same way''
''What would you like to eat? I was waiting for you to arrive before ordering''
''I will have their Chow mein, it is delicious'' Kristine said without looking at the menu book.
''Right choice. I will have the same thing too'' Ronald lifted his hand and a waiter walked over to them. He told him their order and turned to Kristine, ''alcoholic beverage or non-alcoholic''
''Non-alcoholic, thank you'' she smiled at the waiter.
''You seem to have a lot of respect for waiters?''
''Maybe it is because I am one myself. It is a job that requires a lot of diligence but sadly a lot of people look down on it''
''People don't seem to value that line of work, right?''
''Yes, others also think we didn't make it in school that's why we are waiting but that is a serious misconception. I didn't have bad grades at school but I just loved to do service. It gives me great joy to see that my service has made someone happy''
''That's true. I also find women in aprons sexy'' Ronald complimented and Kristine laughed. ''I'm serious''
''I see. so, aren't you busy? I thought doctors were always busy? You seem to be a lazy doctor to me''
''Says the one I saved. You must think I am a quack doctor, right?''
''You even read minds now?'' Kristine asked and chuckled.
''That just gave me a huge ego bruise. I am not a quack doctor. I was transferred here recently but my department is being renovated so I have a month to lazy around before I return to the busy life. You will be amazed by what I can do if you see me in the hospital''
''Really? Then I am waiting to see you in action''
Watching them from a distance, the ears of the three ladies were perked up trying to read the movement of their lips even though they couldn't hear a single thing the two were talking about.
''What do you think they are talking about? Kristine is laughing a lot'' Chloe furrowed her brows watching seriously.
''We can't even hear them but judging by how they are smiling, they must be talking about something interesting''
''I pick him'' Brenda said and beckoned on the girls to draw nearer to her, ''I might be a man hater but I definitely know a keeper when I see one. That man, let's make him Kristine's''
''When it comes to reading people, your gut feeling is more like that of a psychic. I agree to that'' Jenny nodded her head, ''look at them. Their conversation doesn't seem forced. He is able to make her laugh too''
''But, we don't even know whether he wants to be a friend or a boyfriend? A lot of men approach women for different reasons'' Chloe commented.
''We will find out his true intentions after tonight'' Brenda added and they turned to look at the two. Their food had been sent over and they were now eating.
''I'm hungry, let's order something'' Jenny rubbed her stomach.
''Watching them eat that bowl of chow mein has me craving for some too'' Chloe added.
''Let's order some chow mein too'' Brenda raised her hand to alert the waiter.
''So, tell me about this matchmaking spree that you and your friends are on. I must admit, that was what got me interested in you''
''I feel like I'm being mocked by you''
''No, that is not mocking you. I am more like intrigued by you''
''It's nothing much. As you already know, my wedding was suddenly called off by that jerk. My grandpa is mad at me for not being the perfect granddaughter because I chose to work as a chef. My mother is on my neck. In short, I need a man who will agree to act as a fake fiancé and meet my family. My cousin sister is coming back from California with her lawyer fiancé and a whole lot. Not your cup of tea, right?''
''Is there going to be a lot of drama when you see this 'fake fiancé' to meet your family?''
''Lots of drama, that's why I am not looking for something serious. I will pay the person and we end it soon as I return''
''You seem to like to end things a lot''
''Life has taught me that nothing last forever. Last month, I was engaged about to walk down the aisle with the man I thought I loved, who loved me back and now, I am single with nothing to hold on to and on top of that, I have to pretend like it doesn't affect me because I can't let my grandpa know that he was right all along''
''That is such a tough life to live. You will get tired''
''I am already tired but I still have to move on. So, now, you know the whole truth. I bet you aren't so intrigued anymore, right?''
''I am even more intrigued. Your life seems fun and I want to be a part of it''
''Huh? Are you making fun of me?''
''No, I am saying that I like the fact that you are still cheerful and bright even after going through a lot. You are handling your breakup pretty coolly. You don't act all crazy and stalk the man, but you handled it maturely and that takes a great deal to cope with''
''You seem to speak from experience. Did you also just breakup?''
''No, if you want the answer to that, you need to work for it. You don't remember my name even after I mentioned it to you''
''How did you know that?''
''In all your conversations, you referred to me as either doctor or you''
Kristine flushed and smiled apologetically, 'I'm sorry''
''My name is Ronald Mensah. It was nice to meet you, Kristine Amanfo''
''Huh?''
''Let's be friends''
''Friends?''
''Yes, you are not ready to take any step and need time to heal. Let's start by been friends, first''
''Oh, friends. That is fine by me'' Kristine nodded her head.
''So, friends?'' he asked stretching forth his hand.
''Yeah, friends''
''Then, since we are friends, I can bail you out right? I mean that's what friends do for each other''
Kristine nodded her head, no longer sure where the conversation was leading to.
''I happen to be free during this month that my department is under construction and I would hate to allow someone take advantage of you just because you are desperate. What I mean I that, I will go with you to meet your family as your fake fiancé'' he finished and looked at her face.
''You… you mean you are willing to do that for me? I don't need to look for a man again?'' Kristine asked, she wanted to be sure.
''Yes, but off course, as friend behind closed doors. I think I fit in well because I understand your reason for doing that and I won't ask you for money. Since we are friends and you will be my future girlfriend'' he didn't add the latter part but simply smiled at her.
''That would be… just fine. I don't have to spend time looking for a fake fiancé, but I feel that this is too good to be true. What's in it for you? I know there is nothing like free lunch in this world''
''You are smart. You get to pretend to be my girlfriend when the need also arises''
''When the need arises? Don't tell me you have a secret that you can't tell me''
''Maybe my family is also complicated like yours''
''Oh, I definitely understand complicated. I can relate with that''
''Your friends are just a table away from joining us now. I bet they must be curious about what we are discussing'' Ronald said and Kristine turned to see the ladies just a table behind her.
''They can be a lot to handle, a lot in a good way''
''No doubt about that''
