Chapter 261: I like you

''Don't worry, the caller wasn't a woman. That was my small niece'' Ronald leaned against the door and asked, ''are you jealous?''

Kristine flushed. ''No!! why would I be jealous? You are not my boyfriend. We are only pretending to be a couple here''

''Pretending?'' Ronald looked at her and asked, ''so was that kiss also acting?''

Kristine blushed and stuttered, ''it was. You and I had to make them believe that we were real, right? You didn't also feel anything right?'' her ears turned red.

'Who told you I didn't feel anything?'' he asked looking at her.

''I…''

''You might not have felt anything because to you it was nothing more than acting, but it was real for me. I felt every bit of that kiss. I loved it and I want to do it again'' he said and Kristine pursed her lips.

''Remember, you are sleeping on the floor'' she said and pointed at some extra beddings she had placed on the floor, ''you can use those. Good night'' she turned her back towards him and closed her eyes.

''Kristine, I like you and I understand that you are still hurt and healing from a broken relationship but, I don't also know how long I can wait for you to look at me''

Kristine opened her eyes and turned to face him. He was still leaning against the door, ''can you give me time to think this through? My feelings are all over the place and I don't want to use you as a rebound, because you are a good man''

''Sure, but did you really not feel anything from that kiss?''

''No comment'' she smiled and turned her back towards him again.

Ronald chuckled and went to spread the beddings on her side.

''Why are you laying the beddings in front of me?'' Kristine asked.

''Because I want to look at you until I sleep and also see you when I wake up'' Ronald said and winked at her.

''Tsk. Cheesy''

''This is the first time a lady is not asking me to sleep on the same bed with her. Kristine, you are such an ungrateful woman. I stood up for you and you are making me sleep on the floor''

''Why? The Prince of the prominent Mensah family haven't slept on the floor before? You didn't even tell me about my family. I had to find out about you from another person''

''I planned to tell you after we return. After I made sure that you liked me. I didn't expect to be exposed like that''

''Your family is different from mine; do you think they will take it calmly when they found out that you are in love with a waitress?''

''They won't take it calmly because I have someone betrothed to me from birth but she cheated on me, so I tried breaking off the engagement but my grandfather won't allow it. But, don't worry, I will protect you from them''

''Why did she cheat on you?''

''Apparently, I am boring and not fun to be with. I am stuck-up and wouldn't do what every other couple is doing with her''

''You've never kissed her before?''

''I have, when we are making appearances. I was beginning to really like her until I found out she was sleeping with my co-worker behind me''

''Was he also a doctor?''

''En, a senior I admired a lot. You know my family is into IT and also recently branching into Entertainment. My two elder brothers are handling the businesses and my sister is a curator. I decided to become a doctor instead of helping my brothers out. I thought I could repay my grandfather back by marrying the woman he chose but she isn't the one for me''

''Your family seems like another drama, maybe a little dramatic than mine''

''That's right. that's why I can never let them know about your existence until you fully accept me. it won't be easy keeping them away, but my brothers are supportive. My first elder brother was the one who dealt with the Ray's case. He is the one branching into entertainment''

''Can I ask you something?''

''Go ahead?''

''Why do you like me? I am plain and ordinary. I don't have a lot of skills''

''But, you have a dream. I like ordinary. I like your passion towards achieving your dreams and the bonus is that you are just my type, beautiful, kind, accommodating and I feel comfortable around you. I don't feel pressured and I just want to be able to become someone you can lean on''

''Oh'' she yawned and closed her eyes, ''good night, Ronald''

''Good night Kris'' Ronald watched her as she drifted into sleep and he chuckled, ''how could you say those words so casually?'' he smiled and also closed his eyes.

A few moments later, Kristine opened her eyes and murmured as she looked at him, ''I didn't say that casually. I think I might really come to like you a lot more than myself''

Kristine opened her eyes and saw the floor empty, with the beddings neatly folded to the side. She sat up on the bed, ''where did he go to?'' Ronald opened the door and walked out of the bathroom with a towel tied around his waist.

When Kristine looked up and saw him, she let out a scream, ''aaaahhhhhh''

Ronald went over to her quickly and covered her mouth and asked, ''why are you screaming?''

She flushed and pointed at his towel and beat his hand away, ''you… why are you like this in my room?''

''Kris, do you want everyone to come inside here?'' he asked, his whole body pressed against her on the headboard.

Kristine blushed seeing their close proximity. She gulped looking at his bare chest. Ronald took his hand away and was about to get down when the door was abruptly opened and Uncle Max and the others entered.

''Kris, did something happen to you?'' Uncle Max asked and looked at them. He smiled and beckoned at them with his hands, ''oh, we came for nothing. they were just having fun''

Ronald and Kristine looked at each other. When did they say they were having fun?

''Uncle, you are misunderstanding us. We weren't doing anything'' Kristine tried to explain.

''You need to slow down Kris. Now everyone knows what you people were about to do'' Lucy commented sarcastically.

''Lucy, get out'' Kristine shouted at her.

''We won't bother you anymore, but you need to be quick with it'' Uncle Max said and immediately shut the door behind them.

Kristine tussled her hair and looked at Ronald, ''this is all your fault. now everyone is going to be giving us weird looks when we go outside later on''

''I wasn't the one who screamed'' Ronald got down from the bed.

''Stop taking advantage of me. You keep finding ways to touch or hold me'' Kristine said.

''Miss, when did I touch you or hold you? You were the one who screamed after I got out of the bathroom''

''That's because I was shocked by what I saw. How can you walk around with that on? What if it suddenly falls?'' she pointed at his towel.

''I only came out to pick some clothes and go back inside. I thought you were still asleep. How was I supposed to know you would suddenly wake up?''

''Take what you want and go already'' she looked away.

''Why are you acting as if I am naked? I tied the towel tightly, Kris''

''Whatever, just get dressed already. I'm going out'' Kristine got down from the bed and walked to the door.

''Kristine, someone would think I was sneaking up on you'' Ronald chuckled and went inside after picking a set of clothes.

Kristine went into the kitchen and saw Vera and Lucy inside busy cooking. She stood next to Vera and asked, ''what are you making?''

''I'm making grandpa's beef sauce''

''What can I help with?''

''Yes, cut these vegetables''

''Alright, go and rest after this. You shouldn't exhaust yourself too much''

''That was quite a scene in there, Kristine. So, your boyfriend is from the prominent Mensah family. You must be happy, right?''

''What do you mean?'' Kristine turned to face Lucy with a knife in her hands. She was about to cut the vegetables when the former started speaking.

''I see. Make sure you keep this one, Kris. I'm just saying this because I'm concerned about you. As your cousin, off course''

Kristine banged the knife on the kitchen counter and Vera held her hand, stopping her from going near to Lucy.

''Ignore her. She is just looking for ways to irk you'' Vera said to Kristine.

''No hard feelings, ok? Don't tell me you still are a sensitive person?'' Lucy added and cocked her brows at Kristine.

''What? Am I not allowed to be sensitive? Well, even you are still the same old you'' Kristine said back.

''No need to snap, Kris. We are family after all''

''I see you have a lot of things to say. But, what can I say? I don't need any relationship advise from you''

''I know. I hope this one last though. We don't want you eating a lot of ice cream because he left you.

''Get me a drink sister in law. I suddenly have cravings for some juice'' Vera said, holding Kris' hand tightly.

''What kind of cold breeze us this? Oh, this kitchen is full of bad blood'' Kristine said and went out. Lucy sneered.
