During breakfast, Lucy kept smirking as she looked at Kristine. She turned to their grandfather and spoke, ''grandpa, we plan to go to the beach today after breakfast''
''Really? That's good. Take that time to bound and see the men around the town. I'm sure George and Ronald will enjoy the town''
''Yes, grandpa. Kris, are you excited to go to the beach? I recently went shopping and bought swimming suits. There is one that will fit you perfectly''
''But, Kris doesn't wear beachwear. Why would you get her a bikini when you know about her…'' Vera was about to mention her scar and Kristine held her hand.
''Sister in law. It's alright. Lucy, you can give it to me'' Kristine said looking at Lucy.
Ronald looked at her and furrowed his brows. Her feet were shaking under the table and he saw it.
''Okay, it's settled then'' Lucy said excitedly.
Just then, a message came on Ronald's phone and he looked at the encrypted message and frowned. It was a message from Robyn but he didn't understand it. Another message came.
'don't make your girlfriend wear any bikini' was the first message.
'you will thank me for this later on' the second message read.
Ronald sighed and put the phone away and his gaze turned to Kristine's legs under the table. he looked up at Lucy and said, ''actually, Kris and I planned to go somewhere this morning. I don't think we can go to the beach with you guys''
''Did you make plans already? Why didn't you say so?'' Lucy asked, looking at Kristine.
''Kris, have you forgotten you planned to take me to see the school you completed?'' Ronald asked and looked at her.
''I… right. sorry, I totally forgot about it. It seems we really can't make it to the beach'' Kristine followed suit and lied.
''Are you sure you aren't scared to go because of your scar?''
''Scar?' Ronald turned to look at Kristine.
''That's enough, Lucy'' George shut her up.
''She needs to embrace her flaws'' Lucy said, not finding anything wrong with what she said.
''You always have something to do to make everyone lose their appetite'' Vera looked at Lucy coldly.
''Lucy, that's Kris' business. Why are you always speaking about the flaws of others when you have so many flaws yourself?'' Uncle Max asked.
''Lucy, you seem to have a lot to say this morning? I wonder what else you would say and do at my birthday party? You shouldn't be there at all'' the old man said and stood up, ''I still have something to do''
''Grandpa, I…''
Aunt Meg held Lucy's hand and signalled her to not say anything but the latter was angry. She turned to Kristine.
''This is all your fault. You always manage to make everyone look bad in front of grandpa''
''This is my fault. seriously, are you have a problem with your senses? Everyone here knows you started everything. You were the one who spoke first'' Kristine replied and stood up. Lucy stretched put her leg almost tripped and Ronald held her steady.
''Oops, sorry. I didn't see that coming'' Lucy said sarcastically.
''Well, it happens sometimes. Considering the fact that your legs have no coordination at all'' Kristine smirked as Lucy's face turned green.
''Kris, let's go inside'' Ronald said to Kristine.
''Ronald, aren't you curious about why Kristine won't wear a bikini?''
''This crazy bitch is taking it too far'' Vera said and picked up her glass of juice and splashed it on Lucy and she screamed.
''Ahh, Vera. Have you gone crazy?'' Lucy screamed.
''Yes, I have. What are you going to do about it?'' Vera asked and shot a glare at her.
''John and Meg, can't you even control your own daughter?'' Uncle Max asked after he saw George walking away. 'That boy is going to breakup with her sooner than later'' he added and stood up to leave.
Everyone got up and left the table leaving the three family members who all had bitter expressions on their faces.
….
Kristine and Ronald went into their room. Kristine had a solemn expression as if wanting to tell Ronald something but not having the courage to do so. Her hands clutched hard to her jean pants as she bit her lips.
''I…''
''I will get the car ready. Let's go out for fresh air when you are done'' Ronald stood up from the bed.
''Huh?''
''Don't you need to shower and change first, since you are taking me on a tour around the town'' Ronald smiled warmly at her. he walked closer and tussled her hair, ''stop thinking about unnecessary things and get ready, I will be waiting'' he said and went out.
Kristine sighed and went into the bathroom.
….
Ronald was going to his car when he heard voices and turned to his left. Lucy and George were at the pool side of the house, they looked like they were arguing about something. Ronald turned to go and heard Lucy's voice.
''Ever since we were kids. My grandpa favoured her. she always had her way with everything and even after betraying grandpa by deciding not to work for the family company, he still loves her. What about me? Just because my father betrayed the company once, my grandpa is wary against my family. I don't care what anyone says but I am going to make sure grandpa hates her''
''You have inferiority complex. This isn't the right way to resolve your differences. I think you just misunderstand something about your cousin. She seems like a nice person''
''A nice person? George, have you fallen for her already?''
''Lucy, if you don't stop this madness, I am going to leave and that will be the end of us. there is a limit to what I can take from you. You need to reason up. If your grandfather likes your cousin, then you should be on good terms with her, that way your grandpa will notice you but using such dirty tricks on your own family; I don't agree with''
''Really? Why are you not happy with it? Is it because you want to lick the shoes of her boyfriend so that he can hand over the case of their family to you? You want to hit it big through my cousin now? Guess what, those two will breakup anytime soon. When he sees the ugly scar on Kris' thigh, he won't want to even look at her twice again. what do you think is the reason why she ever wears short things? It's because she has a scar on her thigh'' Lucy said and turned seeing Ronald who was looking at her with a cold expression.
''Mr. Mensah?'' George also saw Ronald. 'When did you get here?''
''Timely enough to hear everything your girlfriend was saying about my girlfriend'' Ronald walked closer to them.
''Well, you heard me already. I don't have to pretend then. That's right, Kris has a scar on her left thigh from a surgery she had a few years ago after an accident. It is quite big, so she can't wear short clothes and show off like me'' she said proudly and saw Kristine standing behind Ronald, 'oh, Kris is here too?''
''Lucy. Stop it'' George shouted at her.
''Lucy, how could you mock me using something that almost took my life?'' Kristine asked, her voice choking.
''Because I hate you and now your boyfriend knows about the true reason why you don't dare to wear bikinis and short dresses. He might be thinking of leaving you. Isn't that right, Ronald Mensah''
''You…'' Kristine walked towards Lucy and Ronald held her hand when she got to him. He turned her to face him and wrapped his arms around her head giving her a surprise kiss. Kristine tensed up with her eyes opened wide.
Lucy and George were equally shocked but the latter's shock was that of admiration for Ronald while the former was of sarcasm and pure face slapping.
Ronald finally let go and held her hand looking at Lucy, 'was that enough for you to understand that my feelings for Kris goes behind just her body?'' he asked.
Uncle Max and Nelson who were standing at a distance were equally shocked and amazed. They watched as Ronald pulled Kristine away toward his car. they got inside and he drove out of the compound.
''I think your sister just found 'the one','' uncle Max said and chuckled.
''Yes, but those two. Do you think they will last past tonight?'' Nelson turned toward Lucy and George.
''Not at all. Don't you see the boy's face? He looks stressed out already''
George walked away from Lucy who was screaming out something they couldn't hear. He went to his car and drove out hurriedly.
''Told ya'll'' uncle Max said and sighed, ''why did she grow up to be so unbearable? She was so good and kind when she was little''
''Her parents poisoned her mind. They made her think grandpa loves her lesser than anyone but she doesn't even know that he loves us all equally and he interferes into our business the same way''
