''Jenny, my grandfather is here as my family and you have your mother and sisters here. we also have Ronald, Robyn and Collins whom we all met last night with us. if you agree, we can get our marriage certificate here right away''
''Jenny, your happiness comes first to us, that's why we made the decision without informing you. I hope that you can bravely face the future and not be afraid anymore. You have aunt, grandpa. You have us and the guys are also here today to show their support'' Brenda said to her.
''But, we haven't dated yet? What will we do with the marriage?'' she asked as she laughed making everyone to equally laugh.
''You still have the time to joke, Jenny'' Kristine said.
''We can date after marriage. Who said we have to be like everyone else?'' Kody looked at her.
''Right, Jenny. You trust grandpa, right? If this boy does anything to make you angry; you just have to call me and I will beat him for you'' Kody's grandfather said.
''Grandpa, I will do that'' Jenny hugged the old man.
''Go and get your marriage certificate first'' Jenny's mother said to her and handed the family register to her.
''Let's go and get our certificate. Afterwards, we will go on a date'' Kody pulled Jenny along.
''Who would have thought that Jenny would be the first to get married among the three of us?'' Chloe looked at them as they went towards the counter.
''I know, right? Life really has a way of surprising us'' Brenda added.
''You all have your boyfriends here, what is stopping you from getting married too?'' Jenny's mother said making them look at each other.
''Aunt, you've misunderstood us. the only couple among us are Kris and Ronald. Everyone else are just friends'' Chloe quickly explained but the way the older woman looked at them showed she didn't believe them.
''She doesn't believe you, Chloe'' Kristine whispered.
''I know that'' Chloe nodded her head.
''Aunt, that's true. That man over there is my co-worker and he is Chloe's senior at school. apart from Kris and Ronald, we all are just friends'' Brenda further explained.
'You will become lovers sooner or later, especially the two of you'' Jenny's mother pointed at Brenda and Robyn. Brenda flushed and felt like hitting her head against the pillar next to her.
''You know aunt very well. her words always come true too'' Kristine said to Brenda who frowned. Jenny's mother was always good at predicting things. When they were in high school, she had once predicted that Brenda was going to be the first to get a boyfriend which came true.
Brenda looked up and met with Robyn's gaze and turned away fast. She frowned and looked away.
After registering their marriage and getting their certificates, Jenny and Kody returned with the bureau's photographer for their pictures.
''Everyone, it's time for pictures'' Jenny said happily.
''We will take the bride and groom first, then the parents with join before friends'' the photographer explained.
They did as he said and soon the pictures were taken. Everyone looked happy especially Jenny who couldn't hide her excitement. The day felt surreal to her. In the morning, she woke up gloomy, determined to cut off all ties with Kody but now she was hold a marriage certificate with him. It felt like a dream and she didn't wish to get up from it.
After taking the pictures, everyone went out of the bureau building chatting happily. When they got to their cars, Kody still held on to Jenny's hand tightly.
''I will send aunt to her hotel first'' Brenda suggested after looking at how clingy the two couple looked at the moment.
''Then, I will send Grandpa back to his hotel too'' Chloe also suggested.
''I will drive you there'' Collins said to her.
''Thank you senior''
''Young man, are you going to let her drive me to my hotel which is an hour away from here?'' Jenny's mother asked Robyn and everyone looked at him.
''Me?'' Robyn flushed.
''Yes, shouldn't you accompany two ladies on the road?''
''I will drive; my car is over there''
''No need, we can use my car'' Brenda insisted.
''It will be dangerous for you if you have to send me to my place and then go home''
''That's right. You can come for your car tomorrow''
''Aunt, grandpa, we will come and see you tomorrow. Right now, I want to take Jenny somewhere'' Kody said.
''You two should go and have fun'' grandpa said to them.
''Then, we will call you later'' Kody said and walked away with Jenny towards his car. their flash marriage was probably the first in history among the friends. The one who was supposed to get married didn't and the person who had zero chances of getting married got married first.
''Let's go'' Ronald said to Kristine.
''Aunt, let's go'' Brenda told Jenny's mother as Robyn went to get his car.
''Grandpa, we will send you to the hotel'' Chloe said.
''Yes, child. Let's go''
Everyone got into their car and drove off, leaving the civil bureau office building.
Brenda was going to sit at the backseat when Jenny's mother quickly went inside and locked the door leaving her with no option than to sit at the front seat with Robyn. The drive was silent with no one speaking.
Jenny's mother felt it frustrating watching the two of them act that way and decided to intervene. She felt that if she didn't do something, those two are going to keep been quiet.
''Brenda, do you have someone that you've taken a fancy too, lately?''
''Huh?'' Brenda turned to look at the old water and flushed. She shook her head saying, ''aunt, I don't want to be in a relationship''
''Is there someone who doesn't want to be in a relationship? Child, don't be held back by the past. Let it go and find things that make you happy''
''Yes, aunt''
''Son, isn't our Brenda so pretty? Aren't there a lot of men in your office? I heard you two work together. Since you know each other outside of work, why don't you look for a decent man for Brenda?''
''Aunt, the men at our place are trash. They only know how to look down on women'' Brenda replied and Robyn looked at her.
''Is that so? Son, are you also among those men? The era of men looking down on women is long gone. Now women are as talented as men''
''Aunt, that's right. women are accomplishing a lot of things these days. It is just that, the men at our office are indeed trashy as Brenda said, but I am not like them. I admire women who work hard to achieve their dreams. I find such women sexy''
''That's right. women are equal to men and shouldn't be underestimated. Look at our Brenda, she is so talented. I have watched her go to school and I can tell for a fact that the man who will marry her is a lucky man''
Brenda closed her eyes and pretended to be tired but she was listening to their small talk. She wondered if the man who would marry her would indeed feel that way. The thought of marriage suddenly made her feel tired and depressed.
As he drove, Robyn looked at the woman beside him and smiled.
When they arrived at the hotel, Brenda sent Jenny's mother up to her hotel room and returned to find Robyn waiting for her by the hotel's lobby.
''Let's go'' she said to him.
''Go somewhere with me'' he said to her and she stopped walking.
''I'm tired and don't have to energy to go anywhere with you''
''You will like it. come with me'' he held her hand and walked hurriedly towards the car as if he was afraid she would run away if he let go.
Brenda looked at their hands as he continued to walk away with her. She felt that he was becoming complacent with her lately. He had held her hands countless times this past week alone. But, she didn't feel disgusted by it. she liked the feeling of their hands been together. An unknown smile crept into her lips and they curved up.
Robyn drove the car towards the other side of their direction. He was nodding to the music that was playing on the background.
''Is this your favourite song?'' Brenda asked him.
''How did you know that?''
''You are always listening to this song even when you are in the office''
''You are quite observant''
''I am. Where are we going?'' Brenda looked at the road they were taking.
''Today is your birthday'' Robyn said and Brenda looked at him. Her face turned gloomy and she said to him.
''I don't celebrate my birthday. I stopped celebrating my birthday ten years ago''
''Why?''
''My birthday is the day I hate the most''
Robyn noticed the change in her voice and pulled over. He turned to face her saying, ''I'm sorry. I didn't even ask you before taking you out. I wanted to surprise you''
