Chapter 7 - She Would Buy Insurance From Him

The moment Li Qin Yao stepped into the shop, the sweet smell of baked good wafted over. She unconsciously closed her eyes to enjoy the mixture of sweet smell from pastries and coffee and immediately felt comforted.

Then, Li Qin Yao went put her bag in the small office as she glanced at the phone screen.

Earlier, after she had retrieved her phone back, Li Qin Yao had given a few calls and messages to her boyfriend, Chen Hao. But he had not picked up or returned to any of her messages.

Li Qin Yao frowned.

Could it be that he was still mad at her?

Li Qin Yao sent another text to her boyfriend and then plugged her phone to the charger. Then, she put on her apron and walked into the kitchen.

Her employee greeted her as she walked in. There were three people in the kitchen and three more in the dining area. Every one of them was busy with their task.

Li Qin Yao waved her hand and let them continue with their work.

First, she went to the counter and poured herself a cup of coffee. Only after a half cup of coffee did she find her head cleared and more awake.

Li Qin Yao began her work with inspecting the cleanliness of the kitchen. When she was satisfied, she grabbed a file on top of the cabinet and double-checked for any orders and reservation. Then she looked into the inventories.

Once she was sure that everything was at its place, Li Qin Yao washed her hand and dried them thoroughly and peeked at her employee who was busy with their mise-en-place. The cafe will start operating in another thirty minutes, and Li Qin Yao was satisfied to see that everything was almost ready.

"Qin Yao," Auntie Yu, one her baker peeked at her as she stood next to the kitchen mixer. "You're unusually late today. Something happened?"

Li Qin Yao smiled at the middle age lady. She grabbed a tray of mini tart shells and a tube of custard on top of the worktable. Then she started to pour the custard into the crust. "I had a meeting with someone."

"Oh," Auntie Yu's placed a hand on her chest as she heaved. "I thought you met an accident when I couldn't reach your phone."

Yin Mei Xuan appeared beside them holding a bowl of strawberries. "See Auntie Yu; I told you that Li Qin Yao is alright. You worried too much." She grabbed a paring knife and started slicing the strawberries.

"I lost my phone last night," Li Qin Yao said. She took the sliced strawberries and started arranging them on the custard.

"You lost your phone?" Mei Xuan paused from her task and looked at her employer with her eyes wide. "How can it be? You're one of the most cautious people I know. So even someone like you would lose your phone?"

Li Qin Yao held her urge to knock her friend's head with the spatula in her hand. "What do you mean by someone like me?"

"Did you file a report?" Auntie Yu asked worriedly.

Li Qin Yao continued with her task and said, "Don't worry. I got my phone back." Her thought immediately went back to the man she met that morning.

Last night, Li Qin Yao had eavesdrop to his blind date. At that time, she found that he had the kind of voice that she likes. She tried to glimpse at him, but because she was too scared that he might catch her staring, she only got the chance to look at his head.

When she finally see him face to face this morning, Li Qin Yao realized that this man could be considered good looking, especially as he was dressed smartly in a black shirt and black pants, with no tie.

The thing she noticed most were his chiseled jawline, and piercing deep eyes that gives off a vibe for others not to get close to him, especially when he was frowning.

When Li Qin Yao saw his face, she thought of how this man managed to sell insurance with this vibe around him. If he tried to sell insurance to her, she would probably run away.

No. On second thought, Li Qin Yao would probably buy insurance from the man simply because she was scared that he might hurt her if she didn't.

"I accidentally swapped my phone when I went for dinner last night. I was late because I have to meet this guy to swap my phone back," Li Qin Yao then told them briefly about the incident.

"That's good. At least you get your phone back." Auntie Yu nodded a few times.

Mei Xuan had a sheepish smile on her face as she watched Li Qin Yao arranged fruits on the tarts. When Li Qin Yao finished, the tart looked like it was adorned with colorful jewels.

"What is it about this guy? Tell me about him. Is he handsome?" Mei Xuan asked excitedly.
