Chapter 20 - Familiar Voice

Li Qin Yao stood on her toes and craned her neck as she looked for her boyfriend.

Last night, Chen Hao had agreed to see her off at the airport before she departed to the Capital City. There were five more minutes before she will have to step in into the departure hall, but Chen Hao has not arrived.

Li Qin Yao took out her phone and made another call. It was as she had thought, her phone call was not answered. Qin Yao glanced at the time and then towards the entrance as she weighed her decision whether she should wait a while longer or not.

Just as she turned around, Li Qin Yao heard someone called her name. As she turned around, Li Qin Yao saw her boyfriend among the crowd. He waved as he ran towards her. Chen Hao stopped before her and bowed with both hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath.

"Chen Hao, are you alright?"

Chen Hao lifted his head with a guilty expression. "I'm sorry. I almost could not make it."

Looking at how her boyfriend was gasping for air made Li Qin Yao's heart softened. "You could give me a call."

"I was in a hurry. My mother asked me to accompany her to breakfast this morning, and something happened, and it took longer than I expected," Chen Hao said with a sigh. "And I can't find my cellphone. I probably misplaced my phone somewhere."

"What happened?" Li Qin Yao asked with concern. "Is your mother alright?"

"It's nothing," Chen Hao patted his girlfriend softly on her hair. "We coincidentally met a friend of my mom during breakfast. You know how it is when two girls haven't met for a long time. They just won't stop talking."

Li Qin Yao felt a tug in her heart. Ever since her last conversation with her best friend, Han Yue Xiu, she began to notice that every time she made plans with her boyfriend, Chen Hao would either canceled or showed up late for their date. His mother would always show up with a different reason as if she wanted to stop them from meeting each other.

It was as if his mother did not like her.

Li Qin Yao felt her heart turned sour as the feeling that Chen Hao's mother may not like her intensify. However, she immediately extinguished that feeling as she recalled how Chen Hao's mother had been treating her whenever they met.

She had only met Chen Hao's mother twice, and during those two times, Chen Hao's mother had treated her politely. Li Qin Yao immediately blamed her friend, Han Yue Xiu for her insecurities.

An announcement snapped Li Qin Yao from her thought. She looked at her boyfriend with a reluctant expression.

"You should go now," Chen Hao urged as he adjusted his glasses. "You don't want to miss your flight. Didn't you say your grandfather will arrange someone to pick you up at the airport? It's not good to let the others wait for you."

Li Qin Yao nodded. She felt Chen Hao's cold lips pressed against her forehead and spoke, "Chen Hao, next time, you should come with me to the capital. I'll introduce you to my grandfather. After all, I have lived with my grandfather for years during my teenage years."

"Good. Next time, I will come with you to the capital," Chen Hao said. "I wanted to know about the place where you grow up." He took Li Qin Yao's hand in his and led her towards the gate where a stewardess was waiting.

Li Qin Yao handed her boarding pass and walked in. After a few steps, she turned around to wave at her boyfriend. Only when Chen Hao waved back did she turned around and rushed towards the gate. Soon, she was on the flight, heading towards the first class. When she found her seat, Li Qin Yao put aside her belonging and sat down.

Actually, Li Qin Yao was not planning to sit in the first class. However, once her grandfather heard that she would come back to attend his birthday celebration, he had instructed his personal assistant to send a ticket to her. After some thought, Li Qin Yao decided to accept her grandfather's kindness.

Li Qin Yao sat back as the flight began to depart. After a while, a cabin crew walked in with a trolley of refreshment. After deciding to have some juice, the steward walked ahead and stopped again to attend another passenger. At this time, Li Qin Yao swore that she heard a very familiar voice.

But as the man spoke briefly, Li Qin Yao had no time to think much about that familiar voice.

As the flight will take two hours before it landed, Li Qin Yao took out a book from her bag and started to read with full concentration.

As she was getting into the good part of the book, Li Qin Yao began to notice that something was blocking the light. Feeling a little bit annoyed, Li Qin Yao lifted her head, and her gaze met with a familiar face. "It's you?"
