Chapter 27 - Momentarily Blinded

Seeing the way Li Qin Yao's gaze wondered around, Zhao Wei immediately understood what she was trying to escape. Zhao Wei looked around to see if anyone was watching them. Once she was sure that no one would come to the corner, Zhao Wei stepped up to block Li Qin Yao.

Li Qin Yao frowned at her aunt's action.

Li Mu Chen naturally saw her mother's intention. She pulled her cousin on her arms and smiled sweetly. "What's the rush. We haven't had the chance to talk after you left the company. Why don't we sat down and talked a little bit before your grandfather's birthday banquet begins?"

The frown on Li Qin Yao's face deepened. She could not help but feel annoyed by her Second Uncle's family members. Every one of them would not stop pestering her when she only wanted to be left alone.

"Your cousin's right," Zhao Wei added. "It has been years since the two of you hang out together. Back then, the two of you were pretty close, right?"

Li Qin Yao felt her face started to twitched.

She wondered what the mother and daughter were up to? Seeing their fake smile, Li Qin Yao could guess that it will not be anything good. "Second Auntie, you're right. Mu Chen and I have not hung out together for years."

Li Mu Chen's eyes brightened at the thought that her cousin had taken her bait.

Li Qin Yao turned to her cousin and winced as she looked at the glittery dress her cousin was wearing. Then, she continued, "The last time Li Mu Chen and I hangout were at her fifteenth birthday party."

How can she not remember how well Li Mu Chen had treated her at the party?

Li Mu Chen was only two months older than her. Because of that, everyone thought they would get along well. Her father told her to stay close to Li Mu Chen before he went away to find Li Ren Xin to discuss work.

At that time, her parents divorced was finalized. When the adults were not present, Li Mu Chen tried to humiliate her in front of her friends. In the end, Li Qin Yao only hid in her room, called her mom, and cried. She remembered how angry she was that her parents chose to separate.

A few days later, Xu Yilan showed up and took her to B City. That year, she stayed with her mother for a few months and celebrated her birthday with her mother and a few close friends.

The smile on both mother and daughter quickly disappeared. Just a while ago, Zhao Wei had mentioned how the cousins were close; however, the last time they hang out together was ten years ago. If others heard Zhao Wei's words, won't they start to think about how she was pretentious?

Li Qin Yao peeled her cousin's hands away from her. "Cousin, I know you love role-playing ever since you were a little girl, but I'm too lazy to play with you today. How about the two of you just tell me why were you looking for me?"

"Did your grandfather offer you to come back to LQ?" Zhao Wei could no longer hide her curiosity.

The corner of her lips turned up as she watched her aunt, Zhao Wei, had started to get impatient. However, she understood what her Second Auntie was worried about. If she returned to LQ Group, there might be a chance that the truth about what happened two years ago might come out. If that happened, the person who would be in trouble would be...

"Whether grandfather offered me to come back to LQ or not, what does it have to do with you?" Li Qin Yao smiled.

"Li Qin Yao, I'm warning you. If you come back to LQ headquarters, the shareholders will not agree to it," Zhao Wei said. "You should not put your grandfather in a tight spot, trying to convince others to have you return."

"You worry too much. Of course, I am not going back to LQ headquarters," Li Qin Yao answered. After all, she was going to help her grandfather with a new branch in B City.

Zhao Wei looked at her niece, dubiously. "Are you telling me the truth."

Li Qin Yao nodded. "Of course," she moved her gaze and pretended to look at something behind the mother and daughter. Li Qin Yao smiled widely and continued, "Right, Grandfather?"

The mother and daughter stiffened. They straightened their posture before they turned around with a polite smile on their faces. But the smile on their face swiftly disappeared once they found out that there was no one behind them.

Li Qin Yao chuckled when she saw the annoyed expression on both mother and daughter. She took a few steps backward as she finally escaped from the two.

"Li Qin Yao! You lied to me?"

"Aiya, Second Auntie, I did not lie to you. I was staring too much at my cousin's glittery dress that I was momentarily blinded. I thought I saw grandfather, but I had seen wrongly." Li Qin Yao smiled. "I better get back inside before the event begin." She nodded to her aunt and turned around to make her escape.

Zhao Wei could only point her finger in anger as she watched the girl walked away.
