Chapter 35 - I Broke Up With Chen Hao

Han Yue Xiu felt the corner of her mouth twitched when she saw the emails from her boss. It was weekend at nighttime, why did she still receive work-related email from her boss?

Pressing the off button at the side, Han Yue Xiu decided to ignore her boss and pretending that she has gone to bed. At the thought that her boss might call her number, Han Yue Xiu switched off her phone.

With a mischievous smile on her face, Han Yue Xiu grabbed an ice cream tube and sat in front of her computer and choose a horror movie with a good rating and review. To get in the mood, she switched off the light and concentrated on her computer.

The story was exciting, with a lot of jump scare. But the female lead was obviously an idiot. On the television, the female lead had heard some strange noise coming from the kitchen.

Despite knowing that her house was haunted, the female lead decided to visit the kitchen with only a torchlight in her hand.

Han Yue Xiu wanted to curse and knock some sense into the female lead's head.

Meanwhile, the female lead continued her adventure into the kitchen. She noticed that the backdoor was open, and after peeking her head outside, the female lead shut the door.

Knowing that there was going to be another jump scare, Han Yue Xiu tightened her grip on the spoon.

'Knock! Knock!'

"Ahh!" Han Yue Xiu yelped when she heard the sound.

Instead of turning around to open the door, the female lead walked out of the kitchen as if she had not heard the knock. The ghost did not pop out this time.

'Knock! Knock!'

"Han Yue Xiu, open the door. I know you're inside."

It was this time that Han Yue Xiu knew that it was her door that someone had knocked on. She immediately lowered the volume on her television and walked towards her door. Her brow furrowed as she heard the familiar voice.

Once she swung the door open, Han Yue Xiu was surprised to see her best friend standing at her door. "Yao Yao? What are you doing here?"

Li Qin Yao gave her friend a look over and said, "Get dress. We're going out."

"Where are we going? It's late," Han Yue Xiu said. "Didn't you have a dinner date with Chen Hao and his parents?"

Li Qin Yao took a deep breath as she heard the name. But because it was dark, Han Yue Xiu could not see her friend's expression. "Get dress. We're going out to have a drink."

"Yao Yao, you don't drink," Han Yue Xiu pointed out.

"Who said we're going to drink some alcohol? We're going out to drink coffee."

"Why would you want to drink coffee before sleep?"

"Yue Xiu," Li Qin Yao paused and swallowed. "I broke up with Chen Hao."

Han Yue Xiu stared at her friend with her eyes wide. Upon closer look, Han Yue Xiu finally noticed that her friend's expression did not seem right. "Hold on. I'll go and grab my purse."

Twenty minutes later, the two friends were sitting in a hotpot restaurant. As the two walked pass a hotpot restaurant, Li Qin Yao suddenly had a craving to eat something spicy.

The two of them waited for a while, and their order was delivered quickly. Li Qin Yao quickly submerged the ingredients into the red, hot broth. Once she was sure that the meat has cooked, Li Qin Yao took a sip at the hot broth. Then, she dipped the meat into the spicy sauce and ate.

Han Yue Xiu watched her friend with her brow furrowed. Seeing how Li Qin Yao continued to eat without care, she became worried. Han Yue Xiu grabbed her friend's wrist and said, "That's enough. Go easy on the spicy food lest you'll get a stomachache."

"It's fine," Li Qin Yao gave her friend a reassuring smile. "It has been a long time since I last have hotpot. Let me eat a little bit more."

"Your mom will worry if you returned home with your lips swollen and your body smell like spicy hotpot."

Li Qin Yao paused. "It's fine. My mom went out to visit her friend. She'll come back in a few days." she looked at her friend and blinked. "Can I stay at your place tonight?"

Han Yue Xiu sighed at her friend's stubbornness. "Of course. You can stay with me until your mother return."

After befriended Li Qin Yao for years, she decided not to question her on her breakup with Chen Hao. Once her friend was ready, Han Yue Xiu was sure that she would spill everything.

Li Qin Yao ate silently until her lips started to feel numb, and her eyes started to get watery. It was until then that she put down her chopsticks and started to cry silently. Li Qin Yao had been holding her tears from falling ever since she made up her mind to break up with her boyfriend. However, because she wanted to preserve her pride, she could not let her tears fall in front of him.

Han Yue Xiu let out a sigh as she patted her best friend on her shoulder. Li Qin Yao was not someone who cried easily. Therefore, although Han Yue Xiu had never met this Chen Hao, she was sure that her friend must have like that guy a lot.

Fortunately, Li Qin Yao had her back facing the crowd; thus, the other could not see her crying face.

"Yue Xiu, what am I supposed to do?" Li Qin Yao had explained the details of what had happened throughout her meeting with Chen Hao and his parents.

"If you like him, then why didn't you fight for it?"

Li Qin Yao went silenced for a long time. "If I stay and fight, I will be fighting against his mother. Chen Hao loved his mother, and I cannot let him choose between his mother and me. However, if I stay and tolerate everything, I don't think that it was something that I can do."

Han Yue Xiu tightened her grip on Li Qin Yao's hand as if to share her strength.

"Yue Xiu, you know me. When I like someone, when I love someone, I intended to give my all. " Li Qin Yao paused to take a deep breath. "I might say that I can be satisfied as long as I have Chen Hao by my side. I'm only human, and humans will only get greedy. What I have will no longer be enough. Sooner or later, I will only force Chen Hao to make a choice. If he chose his mother, I would be sad and disappointed. But if he chose me, I will be unhappy because I made him sad. In the end, won't it be good if I end things now?"
