Chapter 113 - Feed Me

As the sky turned darker, Zhang Jing, Assistant Huo and Auntie Wu walked out from the house carrying a few trays and bowls of ingredients and side dishes.

Zhang Yu Han and Wei Jun Hao were tasked to stay and grill the ingredients while Zhang Jing was supervising the two boys. Assistant Huo had excused himself after everything was set up.

Zhang Yu Ying took this chance to chat with Li Qin Yao and the two girls made plans to go out shopping the next time.

When the first batch of lamb was properly cooked, Zhang Jing grabbed a plate and filled it with the meat and other side dishes. Then, he drove away from his granddaughter and took a seat beside Li Qin Yao.

Zhang Yu Ying narrowed her eyes at her grandfather before she walked over to the grill to pester Wei Jun Hao. The two of them argued for a while over some barbecued chicken wing before Zhang Yu Ying coaxed Wei Jun Hao to another side where they make a campfire to make some s'more.

Zhang Jing passed over the plate to Li Qin Yao and said, "Here, taste this and let me hear what you think."

Just from the look and the smell of the barbecued lamb, Li Qin Yao could tell that it was going to taste amazing. She clipped the hot lamb, dipped it into the dipping sauce and took a small bite.

Her eyes widened in surprise at the taste. The meal was juicy, tender and the flavor burst into her mouth. As the lamb was marinated with herbs for hours, it did not have any smell.

Li Qin Yao looked at Zhang Jing and swallowed it down. "Grandfather, this taste amazing!"

Zhang Jing laughed happily at her compliment. "When I was younger, I used to travel around the world. An old neighbor who was a fan of barbecue taught me a few recipes. It's pretty good, right?" His smile widened when she nodded. "If it's good, you should eat a little bit more. After all, it was not every day that you get to eat something that I prepared."

Li Qin Yao held the plate for Zhang Jing. "Grandfather, you should eat too."

Zhang Jing's eyes brightened up at her offer. He picked up a slice of meat and turned to his grandson with a smug look.

Earlier, when he had wanted to grab a few pieces of cooked meat, his grandson had swatted his hand and reminded him not to eat too much meat. Though he was the one who prepared the food, Zhang Jing was allowed to take a piece of each food. He had eaten more than usual, but Zhang Jing was still disappointed.

His grandson was too strict with his diet.

However, since it was Li Qin Yao who had offered him to eat, Zhang Jing knew that his grandson would not nag him too much.

Zhang Jing took a piece of the barbecued lamb and ate. Then he took another piece. Just as he thought that he could eat more of them, Li Qin Yao slid a plate full of vibrant color salad in front of him. The smile on his face froze.

"Grandfather, don't just eat meat. You should try this salad too," Li Qin Yao said.

Zhang Jing lifted his head and saw the smile on Li Qin Yao's face. Though the girl did not say anything, Zhang Jing could tell that she cared about him. Therefore, Zhang Jing sighed helplessly and took the plate from her.

Seeing that it was his future granddaughter-in-law who offered the salad, Zhang Jing had no choice but to silently ate them. Just as he took a bite, Zhang Jing heard a chuckle coming from his grandson. The two of them exchanged a look before Zhang Jing chose to look away and continued to eat his salad.

Li Qin Yao chatted with Zhang Jing about the project in B City while serving him with more vegetable dishes. After a while, Zhang Jing went back inside to replenish some of the sauces. Li Qin Yao watched as Zhang Jing disappeared into the house before she stood up and walked over to Zhang Yu Han.

"Don't stand too close," Zhang Yu Han warned. "Or else, your clothes are going to smell like smokes."

"It's fine.

He glanced at her before he flipped the big prawns on fire. Then, he clipped another piece with a tong and said, "Would you like some prawn? This one looked like it's cooked." Zhang Yu Han placed a few prawns on the plate and handed it to Li Qin Yao.

"Brother!"

Suddenly, Zhang Yu Ying appeared from behind them. "I want to eat some prawns too." She grabbed the plate from her brother and smiled mischievously. "I'll take this first and eat with Brother Jun Hao."

Seeing that the plate had disappeared from his hand, Zhang Yu Han frowned in displeased. His gaze followed to where his sister and his friend run to.

Li Qin Yao laughed as she watched the scene. Then she tilted up her head to look at Zhang Yu Han and smiled. "Your relationship with your sister is pretty good. As the only child to my mother and father, I'm envious."

"Well, there is the good and bad of having a sibling." Zhang Yu Han said.

Li Qin Yao watched the ingredients on the griller and pointed to a few of the prawns. "These few looks like they're done."

Zhang Yu Han moved the tong to transfer those prawns into a plate.

Seeing the cooked prawns in front of her, Li Qin Yao began to pick up a prawn.

"Careful," Zhang Yu Han was anxious upon seeing her trying to peel off the skins. However, from her expression, it did not seem as if the prawn was hot. A frown appeared on his face as he watched her removed the head and peeled off the skins in seconds. "You're good at this."

"I have plenty of training in the past. So I'm used to it," she said with a shrug. She looked at Zhang Yu Han again and tilted her head. "Zhang Yu Han… You've been standing here and cooking for a while. But have you eaten anything?"

Zhang Yu Han paused as he put on a few more ingredients on the grill. Then, he turned to Li Qin Yao and smiled. "If I say I haven't, will you help to feed me?"

He was intending to tease her. However, before Zhang Yu Han could resume his job as the cook, Li Qin Yao had lifted a prawn to his mouth.

Zhang Yu Han took a step back as he eyed the prawn. "I was only teasing." He swallowed and wondered why was he digging his own grave when he was not brave enough to deal with the consequences.

"It's fine. Anyway, your hands are dirty." Li Qin Yao glanced at his hands that were slightly smeared with some charcoal. Then, she lifted the prawn higher. "Come on. It's tiring to lift my hands like this for a long time."

Zhang Yu Han looked around and noticed that the others were not around. He turned at the prawn again before he moved closer to take a bite.
