Chapter 135 - Meeting His Future Mother-in-law

Zhang Yu Han took a deep breath to calm down. He looked out the window and suddenly, was overcome with anxiety.

Last night, while he was chatting with his girlfriend at night as usual when she suddenly mentioned that her mother wanted to invite him for lunch before they departed to L City in the evening.

Instantly, Zhang Yu Han froze.

The last time he had met his future mother-in-law, Li Qin Yao had introduced him as her business partner. Back then, the look that her mother had given him was quite scary. It was only after her mother had left that Zhang Yu Han thought that he could breathe normally again.

Once his grandfather heard that he will be meeting his future mother-in-law, Zhang Jing had offered to come along. However, Zhang Yu Han had declined that offer. He knew that to win his future mother-in-law's heart, he needed to do it himself.

Because of that, he had brought some health products and supplements for this visit and can only hope that she can go easy on him with those bribes. Auntie Wu had even sent a jar of pickles for him to bring to his future mother-in-law.

After sitting quietly in his vehicle for five minutes, Zhang Yu Han took out the stuff brought and entered the building.

With each step he took, Zhang Yu Han was felt his feet were getting heavier. Soon, without realizing it, he found that he was standing in front of the door. Zhang Yu Han took out his phone to check the address again. He had remembered her address by heart since the last time Wei Jun Hao gave him her profile, but because he was too anxious, his mind did not work properly.

Once he was sure that he was standing in front of the right house, Zhang Yu Han lifted his hand to press at the doorbell. Not long after, Li Qin Yao showed up at the door with a wide smile on her face.

"You're here," Li Qin Yao glanced at the bag that Zhang Yu Han was carrying and frowned.

Seeing her face at least made him feel a bit at ease. "Right. I brought a little something for your mother."

Li Qin Yao looked into the paper bag and let out a small laugh. "You brought a lot."

"Did I?" Zhang Yu Han touched the back of his neck. "I didn't know what to bring along and just brought everything."

"Come in," Li Qin Yao moved slightly to give him space to enter the house. Because they were standing too close, Li Qin Yao had to lift her head to look at him. Seeing the slight frown on his face made her smile. "Are you nervous?"

Zhang Yu Han let out a helpless sigh. "What do you think?"

"Don't worry," Li Qin Yao patted him on his arm. "My mother is a nice person. She won't be giving you a hard time. Well, I hope not."

"Then, I'm relieved."

The smile on Li Qin Yao's face widened. Though Zhang Yu Han's expression did not show that he was worried, Li Qin Yao knew that he was anxious. Or else, he won't be clenching his hand tightly into a fist.

Li Qin Yao led him to the sofa and make him wait as she called her mother.

Once Li Qin Yao had disappeared into her mother's room, Zhang Yu Han took his chance to look around. This was the first time that he had entered their apartment. It was smaller than he had expected, but somehow, even with the minimize decoration, the apartment that Li Qin Yao and her mother had lived in looked very homely.

When he first got to know Li Qin Yao, Zhang Yu Han was surprised that Li Qin Yao and her mother were living in a smaller apartment. He had thought that Li Qin Yao would be living in a luxurious apartment because of her status.

But Li Qin Yao had mentioned that her mother did not like to live in such a big place. With a small space, it will be easier for them to clean up. Moreover, her mother is someone who would travel for work.

Zhang Yu Han stood up as Li Qin Yao and her mother walked out of the room. He stood up straight before he bowed slightly. "Hello, Auntie. I'm Zhang Yu Han."

Xu Yilan nodded with a warm expression on her face. "Hello. We've met again."

Zhang Yu Han stood rigidly, not knowing what to do until he remembered the stuff he brought. He lifted the paper bags and spoke, "I brought you a little something."

Xu Yilan moved her eyes towards the bag and was startled by the number of things that he had brought with him. "Thank you. Just put it there. You should have a seat first. Right. What do you like to drink?"

"Anything is fine."

Xu Yilan turned to her daughter and instructed her to prepare some tea.

When Li Qin Yao returned to the living room with a tray of tea, her mother was chatting amiably with her boyfriend, and mostly asked him questions about his work and such.

Li Qin Yao placed the tray on the coffee table and looked up again when her mother called.

"Yao Yao, you go out and buy some meat buns from Uncle Huang," Xu Yilan said.

"Huh?" Li Qin Yao blinked. "But we just cooked some food for lunch."

"Suddenly I'm craving for Uncle Huang's meat buns," Xu Yilan spoke before her daughter could say another word of protest.

Suddenly, Li Qin Yao began to understand her mother's intention. She looked at Zhang Yu Han and the two of them exchanged a look. Her lips curved into a smile as he gave her a nod, saying that he could handle being alone with her mother.

Li Qin Yao then left the house with her phone and some cash. She closed the door behind her and took a deep breath. Ten minutes should be enough for the two of them to talk, right?

Meanwhile, Zhang Yu Han's heart was beating furiously, despite his relaxed expression. Suddenly, his mind was filled with various situations. Because Xu Yilan has always been giving him a cold look, Zhang Yu Han was worried if she would tell him to break up with her daughter.

At the thought of such a situation would happen, Zhang Yu Han felt as if his blood drained out of his body.

After years of waiting, he finally got together with the girl he liked. Of course, he did not want to break up with her. He did not even want to think of anything of that sort.

Zhang Yu Han took another deep breath to calm down. After a brief silence in the room, he spoke. "Auntie, whatever is it that you want to say to me, please, just say it freely."
