Chapter 80: The Palace

A few minutes later, a man walked out of the palace. He seemed to be moving freely. The soldiers on guard only glanced at him briefly without trying to block him.

He was probably about Rose's age, wearing a suit with a blue tie.

He was as tall as Aldric but somewhat thinner, it was obvious that he wasn't the type to lift weights.

His hair was neat while his face looked serious.

His eyes were staring at Rose's car.

When she saw him, Rose opened the car door and said to Aldric, "that's the guy, come on down!"

Aldric got out of the car quickly and approached Rose who was waiting beside her car door.

He observed the man in the suit, Arthur, as the latter had also observed him though only briefly.

"Rose, is he the one?" the man asked when they arrived near them.

He looked at Aldric again, hesitating at last when he saw he was even younger than him.

"Yes, do you doubt him, Arthur?" replied Rose, aware of the man's hesitation.

"I'm telling you, 95 KG is not too heavy for him. His muscles may not be as big as those of body builders, but he's stronger than most of them in my gym. If we talk about endurance, he is number one without a doubt. This job isn't too hard for him, you should say how much you're willing to pay him per case moved."

Rose knew Aldric's physical strength well, naturally she was full of confidence when talking about him.

Aldric was a bit embarrassed as he felt she was exaggerating even though what she said was actually a fact.

Working physically, the most important thing was endurance and that was not something that people who just practiced lifting weights had.

To have a strong endurance, one needed to get used to really hard work.

"Ohhh..." Arthur didn't seem to expect to hear that from Rose.

"Okay, we can try it," he said.

"But how much are you going to pay for it?" Rose questioned that again because the man hadn't said it yet.

With the limited number of workers who could lift the suitcases, the fee naturally had to be expensive.

"Because it's a bit difficult and it's done in a palace, so I'll pay £7.5 for each suitcase. In other places, he would only get £3 at most. If he works well, he should be able to move more than fifty suitcases in two hours," Arthur replied as he pointed five fingers.

"Of course, there will be an additional bonus," he added.

Hearing that, Rose looked at Aldric, asking his opinion.

If he looked unhappy with the £7.5 fee, then she would ask Arthur to pay more.

However, from Aldric's point of view, this was too high a fee. Even he was surprised to hear that.

After all, he was working this time just to honor Rose for helping him find a job plus that he wanted to enter the palace.

"No problem," he replied. S~eaʀᴄh the NôvelFire(.)net website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

"Good, follow me," Arthur said.

He gestured for him to enter the palace.

Aldric looked at Rose who invited him.

"I do not have permission to enter, so I will wait here," she said.

"Sister Rose, I can go home alone," Aldric replied.

"No, I will wait for you, after all, I brought you here," the woman replied.

"Mmm..." Aldric was moved by that, not sure what else to say.

"Interesting, Rose, it's rare to see you so nice," Arthur said suddenly in a tone that sounded cynical.

"Ohhh, have I been so mean all this time?" Rose replied indifferently.

"Yes, at least to me while I was so kind to you," Arthur replied.

"Hmph, you still owe me a lot." Rose gave a soft snort that finally left Arthur helpless.

Aldric wasn't sure what owe she was referring to as it seemed Arthur was from a very wealthy family.

Perhaps it was some sort of owe of gratitude.

From the moment the man took a step, he immediately followed him.

When they were about to enter the palace gates, the soldiers ended up blocking them.

They were only allowed to enter after Arthur explained that the man following him was a worker he had hired.

However, after entering the palace grounds behind the parapet, Arthur did not enter through the main door. He entered through the door in the corner.

"We are ordinary people, we cannot enter the palace hall without a special invitation." The man explained to Aldric why they were entering through that door.

This instantly disappointed him because behind that door, what he saw was just an old-looking hallway.

This was not the grand and elegant palace hall he wanted to see.

His disappointment was evident on his face as he had originally wanted to take a selfie and then share it on his village group.

"However, this is a very important job for the palace. If we're lucky, we might be invited to dinner with some members of the royal family," Arthur added suddenly with his eyes fixed ahead as he stepped into the hallway.

He didn't seem to be saying that to Aldric, but to himself.

"Really?" Aldric was genuinely surprised to hear that.

Dinner with a member of the royal family, that was even better than just entering the palace.

"It's only if we're lucky," Arthur replied, glancing back.

There were several doors in the hallway and at the end was an elevator.

Although the hallway was somewhat dilapidated, the elevator was still very new.

Arthur opened the doors, motioning for Aldric to enter.

To his surprise, there were four buttons consisting of the numbers one to four in the elevator.

Arthur pressed 4, and the elevator moved down.

"Basement 4th floor!" Aldric was astonished by this, not expecting the palace to have so many basements.

Coupled with the bottom basement which was completely unconnected to the elevator, that meant there were five floors.

The public knew nothing about this.

While it might not have been a secret, no one was reporting on it.

Within seconds, the elevator arrived at the 4th floor basement.

Immediately the doors opened, revealing the basement which consisted of a spacious and bright room with many lights on the ceiling.

It was connected to five elevators that were in different locations.

Aldric saw quite a lot of ancient items such as paintings, urns, and armor.

There were even some carriages placed in this basement.

The most interesting thing to him was a pile of large suitcases that numbered in the hundreds.

They were neatly arranged beside an elevator that was larger than the other elevators and eight men stood beside them.

Of those men, four looked like workers. They wore ordinary clothes, but had large bodies, and the rest were servants led by an old maid. There were also several maids providing food and drinks.

Aldric didn't see anyone else besides them.
