“What he said, is it true?”

Ji Xiunian looked at Lu Xu who was standing in front of him. His emotions were complicated.

Lu Xu had never thought that he’d have to talk about these kinds of things in front of a client. He only felt that Peng Hanfei was more of an eyesore than ever now.

However, Ji Xiunian’s gaze was steely, and he stubbornly waited for an answer.

Lu Xu didn’t want to answer, but he didn’t want to lie to him either, so he was silent for a moment.

However, Peng Hanfei was laughing, his tone mocking, “This is the truth, why are you afraid of admitting it to him? Don’t tell me that in the time that you were undercover, you actually got attached to this stowaway, so all your courage to speak is gone?”

Lu Xu ignored Peng Hanfei, and said to Ji Xiunian after a moment, “That’s more or less what it is.”

Lu Xu wasn’t one to explain things, let alone expose all of his thoughts for other people to hear.

On a certain level, Peng Hanfei was right.

His original intention was to investigate the mystery behind Ji Xiunian’s immortality, and if he ended up being a stowaway, then he absolutely wouldn’t hesitate. This was the truth, there was nothing to explain.

When Peng Hanfei heard this, he pursed his lips and said to Ji Xiunian, “There, you heard it for yourself. You were a target that the Grim Reaper Bureau had its eye on. Lu Xu was the one responsible, but didn’t perform his duties, and idly watched on as you saved someone destined to die. This is considered malpractice, and you aren’t innocent either.”

As if he hadn’t heard Peng Hanfei say anything at all, he asked Lu Xu, “So was I just a mission to you?”

“No.” Lu Xu shook his head, and he wasn’t lying.

Ji Xiunian saw that he wasn’t hesitating, and he felt his heart be more at ease. “After such a long time, did you think of me as a friend?”

This question made Lu Xu go quiet and think. If he simply thought of Ji Xiunian as a client, then he could have absolutely stayed on the sidelines and waited for something to happen to him.

But he hadn’t, and had even helped Ji Xiunian out more than once.

Lu Xu suddenly smiled at Ji Xiunian. “Nian ge, didn’t you notice?”

Amongst all the questions, when Lu Xu asked that one, Ji Xiunian did indeed have an answer in his heart.

With just that one sentence, Ji Xiunian seemed to wake up.

Ji Xiunian, who had been feeling cheated earlier, seemed to be jolted, and upon seeing that familiar smile on Lu Xu’s face, he let out a relieved sigh.

Maybe Lu Xu did treat him as a mission in the beginning, but there were no rules to say that he couldn’t care about the mission.

As Ji Xiunian thought of that, a smile was unconsciously stretching across his lips.

Peng Hanfei had started all this to cause trouble for Lu Xu, and also wanted Ji Xiunian to see what the person he thought of as a friend was truly like.

However, that outcome didn’t happen. In fact, the two of them were only looking at each other, as though completely ignoring his existence.

“…”

Seeing that they were quietly talking, Peng Hanfei couldn’t help but interrupt, “Ji Xiunian, I now suspect you of being a stowaway, so please follow me to the Bureau for investigation.”

Before Lu Xu could even speak, Ji Xiunian was already expressing his opinion, “You only suspect me of it, but don’t have any evidence, I have no obligation to cooperate with you.” As he finished saying that, he couldn’t help but glance back at Lu Xu, his gaze firm. “Also, I’m Lu Xu’s client, if something really were to happen, he will be here…”

Ji Xiunian was correct. Either way, he wasn’t going with Peng Hanfei.

“You…”

Peng Hanfei didn’t think that Ji Xiunian would make such a choice, and huffed.

Truthfully, if Ji Xiunian wasn’t willing, there was nothing else he could do. Although there was a heavy aura of death around him, he was still alive. If he were to forcibly take someone’s life away, then he would also lose his job as a grim reaper.

On the other hand, Lu Xu was still guarding Ji Xiunian. If it came down to it, there would be a nasty fight.

But Ji Xiunian was indeed under Lu Xu’s watch. It would be unreasonable for Peng Hanfei to take him away.

Peng Hanfei was getting angrier the more he thought about it. He wanted to make a move, but Lu Xu was completely calm, obviously waiting for him to start the altercation before taking him by surprise with some big move.

“I will definitely be reporting this to the higher ups, you’d best behave.” Peng Hanfei, in the end, chose to leave. Out of sight, out of mind after all, and he would quickly return and write up a report.

Whether it was Ji Xiunian or Fan Zeng, if HQ decided to get serious, then Lu Xu would be in a bad position.

When Peng Hanfei was around, Ji Xiunian already had no one else except Lu Xu in his eyes. It made no difference whether he left or not.

Ji Xiunin had a lot of questions he wanted to ask Lu Xu, but before he got the chance to, there was the sound of an ambulance coming from outside the apartment.

“It was the phone call I made earlier.” Ji Xiunian just remembered, while he was panicking, he still remembered to dial the emergency number.

Although Fan Zeng was alive, he should still get to the hospital to get checked out.

“Fan ge…” While Peng Hanfei was around, Ji Xiunian had forgotten about Fan Zeng, but now that the threat was gone, he immediately went to check up on the situation.

Fan Zeng was on the floor, and only the soft rise and fall of his chest indicated that he was still alive.

Ji Xiunian was still a little worried that something would happen.

Lu Xu saw the concern on his face, and calmly as ever, said, “Fan Zeng is fine now, you don’t have to worry too much…”

True to his words, Fan Zeng suddenly coughed a few times, and slowly opened his eyes. “What happened to me?”

He was a bit dazed, and he tried to remember what had happened before he passed out. Lu Xu immediately stepped forward and said, “Fan ge, you overworked yourself and your heart stopped beating. Luckily Nian ge was here to perform CPR and brought you back.”

Lu Xu’s tone was very calm and firm, such that no one could doubt him.

He explained it concisely and to the point, and it sounded very reasonable.

Fan Zeng felt that his chest was a bit uncomfortable, as though reinforcing what Lu Xu had just explained.

“I really died just now?” He just remembered that he had been trying to pick something up, and then his vision went black and he didn’t know what happened after.

“Yes.” Ji Xiunian was silent the entire time, and only agreed with what Lu Xu said.

Fan Zeng’s reaction was somewhat surprising…

His spirit had come out and had even been greeted by Lu Xu as a grim reaper, but he had completely forgotten about it in such a short time.

Perhaps this was one of the powers of a grim reaper?

Ji Xiunian glanced at Lu Xu, his heart filled with even more questions.

It didn’t seem appropriate to ask them in front of Fan Zeng, though.

Fan Zeng wanted to ask something as well, but both Lu Xu and Ji Xiunian told him to wait until the ambulance arrived.

Having one’s heart stop was no small matter, and there could be many reasons for it.

No one knew why this had happened to Fan Zeng, but the best option was to sit quietly and wait for medical help.

Luckily, the medical staff arrived in a timely fashion, and very soon there were people picking Fan Zeng up and preparing to send him to the hospital for a full body check up.

Hearing the commotion, the trainees sneakily got out of bed to observe, wanting to see what had happened and to whom it happened to such that an ambulance had to be called in the middle of the night.

No one would’ve thought that it was Fan Zeng, and everyone was dumbfounded–

That was Fan Zeng, right?

No way that was Fan Zeng!

If something happened to the director, would the show still be able to go on?
