Ch103 - The Grim Reaper Is Online For Tutoring

Just as the evil spirit went in circles around Ji Xiunian, Lu Xu suddenly appeared.

He had wanted to harvest this evil spirit last time, but hadn’t pursued it because he had to conceal his identity. He originally thought he would need to spend some time before catching it, but who would have thought the other party would once again ‘send itself to his door’.

Ji Xiunian had been continuously struggling against it, and the evil spirit was so caught up in it, that it was caught the moment it slipped. But now it had truly landed itself into a mess. It hadn’t thought that Lu Xu would appear at this very moment.

An order that had sent itself to his door…

Ji Xiunian had just accepted the reality that he was Lu Xu’s order. When he unexpectedly heard him speak like this, he thought that those words were referring to himself.

Based on Lu Xu’s personality, he wouldn’t personally bring about the harvesting of his soul. But if someone else did that for him, then Lu Xu’s mental burden would be lessened quite a bit.

The dim light shone upon Lu Xu standing motionlessly by his side. Ji Xiunian couldn’t help but hesitate—

He didn’t know what Lu Xu was waiting for. Was he waiting for him to die first so he could harvest his soul?

If it was like this, should he fight to the death, or just completely give up on resisting?

As Ji Xiunian’s mind fell into disarray, the Lu Xu at his side spoke again. “Nian ge, don’t move. Are you going to be bullied by such a small little evil spirit?”

“Ai?” Ji Xiunian couldn’t help but be stunned before he reacted and realised that Lu Xu meant for him to fight.

If he had wanted him to die, there was no need for him to have said this!

Having realised this, Ji Xiunian suddenly felt very happy, and his eyes lit up.

And the evil spirit that had been completely focused on eating Ji Xiunian up hadn’t noticed Lu Xu’s existence until it was much too late.

At first, the evil spirit had attacked Ji Xiunian because of its own greed and courage. Now that Lu Xu was at his side, it was scared out of its wits.

Before anything even really happened, its momentum had dropped quite a bit. On another look, Ji Xiunian, who had previously been completely immobilised by it, suddenly burst out with death energy, forcing it to retreat.

The moment it loosened its grip, Ji Xiunian took advantage of this opportunity to punch it in the head.

It was only a very ordinary punch, but when it connected, it created a fiery light that almost entirely dissolved the evil spirit.

“Wu…”

The evil spirit was in pain, and couldn’t help but release its grip.

Ji Xiunian fell to the ground and subconsciously moved in front of Lu Xu to protect him. His face was solemn, but he was amazed on the inside.

Before, in order to make his body stronger, Ji Xiunian had specifically learned martial arts. He had a serious personality, so he had practised his skills to the level of being able to participate in a competition.

Although he knew he had strength in his abilities, Ji Xiunian would have never thought, even in his dreams, that there would be a day where he would actually have to use this with these special effects.

In the very beginning, he even thought that physical attacks wouldn’t be effective against evil spirits, but the opposing party clearly had a physical body when facing him. Having understood this, Ji Xiunian suddenly thought that things like evil spirits weren’t actually that scary.

As long as he was strong enough, there wouldn’t be much that could defeat him.

Carrying these thoughts, Ji Xiunian’s gaze once again faced the evil spirit, it even had a hint of eagerness within.

The evil spirit was both in pain and confused. Its black eyes looked towards Ji Xiunian, completely not understanding why this human completely covered in death energy had such a strong spirit.

Once it had looked again at the Lu Xu who was watching the fun from the side, the evil spirit’s vigour died down.

Its remaining thread of reason was telling it to run, but Lu Xu’s aura was too strong. Its entire body’s death energy was trembling, to the point of even wanting to give itself up.

The evil spirit finally found a thread of reason again with much difficulty, and began preparing to run.

What death energy what Ji Xiunian it didn’t even bother with. ‘Living’ was stronger than everything else.

But Lu Xu didn’t even give it this opportunity.

Only when the evil spirit reached the window did it realise Ba Mei had unknowingly at some time blocked the path there, completely unmoving like a door god.

There was something inexplicable on Ba Mei’s body that made it feel dread. The evil spirit unconsciously halted in place.

When it had returned to its senses and realised something was wrong, Lu Xu was already standing behind it, and smacked the lid of its spirit in one go.

The evil spirit yelled once in pain. First its shape shattered, then gathered back into the shape of a black dog.

Its brain was about to sink into the ground. Its ears drooped, and it completely didn’t dare to raise its head. Originally it had been a round mass of black energy, but it had now changed into a little black dog pouting its butt as it sat on the ground without moving.

Ji Xiunian could only feel that everything happening in front of him was unbelievable. He felt like after meeting Lu Xu, his world views were continuously being reformed.

“Nian ge, come here.”

Lu Xu didn’t even look at the prostrating evil spirit under his feet, and merely turned back to call for Ji Xiunian to come over.

“Mn?” Although he didn’t know why Lu Xu was calling for him, Ji Xiunian still subconsciously walked towards him.

“Did you see my ending move just now?”

Ji Xiunian understood that Lu Xu was talking about how he had hit the evil spirit into a black dog, but he didn’t understand how Lu Xu had specifically done it, so he lightly shook his head. “No.”

“Ai ai ai, then I’ll do it again for you. Nian ge, you have to watch carefully.” As Lu Xu spoke, he picked up the evil spirit from the floor, and gave it a look for it to do it itself.

The evil spirit wasn’t stupid, and after getting Lu Xu’s meaning, mumbled to itself as it turned back into a big mass.

Lu Xu turned back and raised his brows at Ji Xiunian, then raised his hand and smacked the evil spirit on its head.

Very quickly, the evil spirit on the ground once again turned into the shape of a black dog, its size around that of a poodle’s.

Lu Xu still didn’t look at the evil spirit, his peach blossom eyes only filled with Ji Xiunian. “Nian ge, did you see clearly this time?”

Lu Xu’s expression was focused. When Ji Xiunian met his gaze, he felt his face heating up. He tried to hide his discomfort, and turned towards the evil spirit and nodded. “I think I saw clearly.”

The evil spirit on the ground let out a sigh of relief, fearing that Lu Xu had wanted it to do it again.

But before it could even recover its strength, it heard Lu Xu say ghastly words. “That’s good, try it.”

???

Forget about the evil spirit being dumbfounded, even Ji Xiunian couldn’t understand for a moment what Lu Xu was trying to do.

But Lu Xu was patient. He pointed at the evil spirit on the ground and said to Ji Xiunian, “Nian ge, follow the actions I just did, and see if you can do it.”

Before the sound of his words even landed, he poked at the evil spirit with the tips of his toes. The evil spirit resigned itself to its fate and could only once again return to its horrendous appearance.

Ji Xiunian was a little hesitant, but Lu Xu’s face was full of trust and encouragement.

“I’ll try.” Ji Xiunian didn’t hesitate any longer, and directly walked towards the evil spirit with large steps. He reached his hand out and smacked its head.

After a pinging sound, the evil spirit once again turned into the shape of a black poodle.

“Yo, not bad!” Lu Xu couldn’t help nodding in approval, thinking that as long as Ji Xiunian was his student, he would definitely be an honour student.

When the evil spirit heard Lu Xu’s tone, it unconsciously relaxed a bit, but this world was truly not that simple.

In the blink of an eye, the other party  turned around again. “Nian ge, you should try a few more times to get the feel of it. This kind of thing needs muscle memory.”

???

No way, again?!

The evil spirit really wanted to cry. It almost felt like it had become their experimental guinea pig.

But no matter how dissatisfied it was, in order to avoid Lu Xu smacking its head, the evil spirit still had to cooperate.

So like this, after Ji Xiunian successfully managed it every time after trying several times, Lu Xu finally stopped asking for it to continue.

The evil spirit had been beaten into a sorry state. It prostrated itself on the ground without moving.

“Nian ge, do you know what this thing is?”

Lu Xu pointed at the evil spirit as he asked Ji Xiunian, then waited quietly for his answer.

“An evil spirit?” Ji Xiunian wasn’t very clear where this mass of cruelty had come from, and could only answer based off of his common sense.

“Calling it that isn’t wrong.” Lu Xu walked in front of the evil spirit and spoke with the absolute patience of someone lecturing students during class. “This world has both good and bad people. Ghosts are the same…”

Ghosts were divided into good and evil. Some stayed behind merely because they were still tied up with the mortal realm, while others stayed purposefully in order to cause trouble.

“As for those like the one we caught today, they don’t have complete ghost bodies. It started off in the beginning as a mass of evil thoughts, unconsciously absorbing death energy from a dark corner. Its evil thoughts became bigger and bigger, so it became stronger and stronger…”

In order to thrive like this in such a short time, anyone would’ve realised from just thinking how greedy this evil spirit had been.

“In the beginning, they wouldn’t have been able to cause harm to humans, but with time, the situation changed…”

The evil spirits lurked in corners waiting for opportunities, and attacks by evil spirits began to appear.

One of the responsibilities of a grim reaper was to protect clients until their contracts came into effect. This meant that they also undertook assignments related to evil spirits escaping.

Lu Xu usually didn’t waste any words when dealing with evil spirits, directly knocking them out and sending them away.

But today was an obvious exception. After all, he had to give Ji Xiunian his first class ever.

He very patiently explained the origins, classifications, and varieties of evil spirits, and even demonstrated how evil spirits used their death energy.

If not for the fact that evil spirits didn’t have any internal organs, today Lu Xu would have even dissected it apart to teach him.

On one hand, Ji Xiunian remembered Lu Xu’s words, but on the other hand he felt that this was rather suspicious, and didn’t understand why Lu Xu was telling him these things.

Was it necessary to understand the different types of orders as an order himself?

Lu Xu didn’t mind, and merely spoke about the aspects of it for a very long time.

Finally, “Professor Model Evil Spirit” couldn’t handle it anymore, blubbering as it begged Lu Xu to end its misery, and to stop torturing it.

Lu Xu verified that Ji Xiunian hadn’t forgotten any of the important knowledge points, and finally sent the evil spirit off on the road to the underworld. He had completed another order.

“Nian ge, you have to remember the feeling from today. Who knows if you’ll have to use it someday.”

Ji Xiunian’s mind wasn’t on this topic, and he only asked Lu Xu with a bit of trepidation, “Did you already go over to that side? What did they say about Fan Zeng’s situation, did I cause any trouble for you?”

To be honest, Ji Xiunian sometimes worried about Lu Xu more than he worried about himself.

Having felt this, Lu Xu couldn’t help grinning. “It’s nothing, everything’s fine. You don’t need to worry about Fan Zeng’s situation, it’s not a big problem. As for me, I’m fine, right? So, Nian ge.” Lu Xu seemed as if he had suddenly remembered something, and smiled happily as he told him, “Congrats on becoming a reserve grim reaper. We’ll be colleagues from now on. Please take care of me.”
