Ch116 - The Grim Reaper Comes Knocking

After wrapping up the filming for the seventh episode, Tang Yanqing wanted to add Lu Xu on WeChat. One could say he was preparing to bring him in as an ally.

Once he had fished out Lu Xu’s WeChat ID from the group chat, he realised that it seemed a bit familiar.

Tang Yanqing had had a chat with Ji Xiunian earlier that day, so he went to open Ji Xiunian’s profile. He then noticed that there seemed to be something fishy between these two.

Although he didn’t know what “ss” meant, he knew for a fact that Ji Xiunian’s WeChat ID never had “ss” in front of it before. Now he saw both of them using a similar ID, and their profile pictures even had the same kind of color pallette and formal style.

Their WeChat profiles were way too similar, so Tang Yanqing couldn’t help but pull Ji Xiunian aside to ask, “Hold on brother, is this a couple ID?”

“Hm?” When he heard Tang Yanqing say “couple ID”, Ji Xiunian actually felt quite good about it.

In order to make himself seem like a more professional grim reaper, Ji Xiunian had changed his ID to one affiliated with the grim reapers. Although all the grim reapers had “ss” in front of their names, the only grim reapers he knew were himself and Lu Xu. Seeing that they both had similar profiles, even he felt an inexplicable sense of joy.

But he could only enjoy these little things on his own. There was no way he could explain it to anyone else.

Ji Xiunian didn’t want to cause any unnecessary misunderstandings, so he just shook his head and replied, “It’s not a couple ID…”

Just as he was speaking, he saw Lu Xu standing not too far away. There was no telling how much he had heard.

Before Ji Xiunian had even finished speaking, Tang Yanqing walked over to Lu Xu with his phone in hand. “Lu Xu, can I add you on WeChat?”

It was naturally okay for a director to add others on WeChat, and Lu Xu didn’t object either. He simply scanned Tang Yanqing’s QR code and they exchanged their contact details.

“Manman can probably join the group chat later…” Tang Yanqing couldn’t help but think of Manman when he saw Lu Xu. No matter how he looked at it, it was because of Lu Xu that she joined the show for two episodes. Their relationship wasn’t just a formal one.

“Is shijie coming?” Lu Xu had also only found out that Yu Manman was joining again as a guest because of what Tang Yanqing had just said.

Yu Manman had already adjusted her schedule just so she could come onto the show as a guest judge for Lu Xu. Now she was coaching him in singing. Others were admiring and also worried for Lu Xu’s live performance.

Yu Manman was a vocal goddess, with a voice that could make you kneel.

Many people said that Yu Manman’s voice was a gift from the gods themselves, worthy of praise and admiration.

One could feel their spirits soaring just by listening to her sing, her voice reaching into the depths of the human soul.

Having someone like that coaching them in singing, their popularity would of course soar. On the other hand, having someone so competent would also give the trainees a lot of pressure.

The pressure that Lu Xu faced would probably be a lot more compared to the others, especially when it concerned someone of Yu Manman’s level.

But it seemed that he didn’t really mind. He just accepted Tang Yanqing’s friend request and casually spoke, “Director Tang, can I take Nian ge away now?”

“Of course?” Tang Yanqing raised a brow, apprising the two people before him, he thought that their relationship seemed to be closer than ever now.

Ji Xiunian pretended like he didn’t see Tang Yanqing’s look. He just nodded and left with Lu Xu.

“Nian ge, there’s a new order.”

“Mhm, let’s go together.” Ji Xiunian nodded in acknowledgement, feeling himself brighten up a bit.

The order had already come in, so there was no time for them to head back to the dorms. The two of them just had to find a bathroom and head there.

“Xu ge…” Yao Yulong, the one who came in laost for both rankings, was also lucky in some way. He always thought that the main reason he could stay on for so long was because he had great luck, and always got into the strong teams. He bumped into Lu Xu in the bathroom, and he was in a good mood so he wanted to say thanks. Just as he opened his mouth to call out to him, he saw Ji Xiunin right behind Lu Xu.

“Nian ge, you’re here to use the bathroom too?” Just as he asked, Yao Yulong felt embarrassed. Of course he came to the bathroom to use it, what else would he be doing there?

He was a bit awkward now, and he quickly pulled up his pants to go to the sinks.

Ji Xiunian nodded at him, and moved as if to go into one of the stalls.

Yao Yulong didn’t think too much about it, and left the bathroom.

Just as he left, he realized that he had left his phone behind, and remembered that he’d left it near the sink.

“This memory of mine…” Yao Yulong reprimanded himself, and hurried back inside.

Coincidentally, he saw in the mirror that Lu Xu and Ji Xiunian were entering the same bathroom stall.

“Are you ready?”

“Okay okay, hurry up, there’s no time.

“Mn, let’s finish it quickly, what if other people come in?”

“Move over a bit, I can’t even move…”

The two of them spoke in low, urgent voices, as though they were afraid of being discovered.

“…”

Yao Yulong felt his face go hot, and quickly rushed out of the bathroom. He didn’t dare to listen any longer.

Under what circumstances would two men need to squeeze into the same bathroom stall, urging the other to move faster as though they were afraid of being discovered?

Everyone was an adult here. Even if he had never done it himself, he had heard of it.

Yao Yulong had already thought that the two of them were pretty close, now he realised it was even closer than that.

It was also because Ji Xiunian and Lu Xu looked to be honorable gentlemen, his mind had never gone down those kinds of paths.

Although the two of them spent a lot of time together to the point that it was quite strange, if it was Lu Xu and Ji Xiunian, most wouldn’t find it too hard to accept.

But they were also in a mentor-student relationship. They had to be professional during the competition, and some people might think too much of it.

Also, didn’t people usually keep their romantic feelings carefully under wraps? The two of them were being so bold and urgent, was this really okay?

Yao Yulong was in a dilemma, and he felt that he was way out of his depth.

Yao Yulong backtracked towards the bathroom, and stood there for a long time.

Although his emotions were a complete mess regarding this matter, he still felt like he should help in covering this up.

Most of the others would have returned to the dorms already, but there was no guarantee that no one would walk in. What if they found out that Lu Xu and Ji Xiunian were inside…

He could keep this a secret, but there was no telling if others would do the same. Sigh.

On the other side of things, Lu Xu and Ji Xiunian had squeezed into the same stall, and after determining the correct location, they had teleported over.

“This is a single apartment?”

The apartment was packed with things. Behind every door was a whole new world. Many youths lived on their own in the city, and would rent single apartments.

Ji Xiunian and Lu Xu walked into the corridor. Down the long empty corridor, the two of them would occasionally hear noise from video games or music. It seemed that the sound-proofing wasn’t too great.

“3061.” Lu Xu looked at the order, and brought Ji Xiunian right to the client’s doorstep, then raised his hand to knock on the door.

“Are there other people inside?” Ji Xiunian remembered that when he saw the order on the app, the client had already died.

So he felt confused when Lu Xu knocked on the door, and the question just came out.

There seemed to be the sounds of a keyboard and someone’s voice from behind the door, and it clearly wasn’t that of a dead person’s.

Just as Ji Xiunian was getting even more confused, a voice from inside called out for them to wait.

“Who is it?” A young fellow opened the door, headphones still over his ears, and he sounded a bit impatient.

Ji Xiunian looked at his face and was dumbfounded. Wasn’t this supposed to be their new, freshly dead client?
