Chapter 1339 Ground Rules
"Elle, your dad is here!" Mu Chenyan called out tentatively to get Raelle's attention whose attention was completely on the book in her hands. This was really not a situation she expected when she suggested Raelle to check out the library.
She just wanted Raelle to do something she enjoyed while others were having fun with their own things. Who knew they'd get into this situation right now?
"Okay," replied Raelle without lifting her head or moving her eyes. "Didn't you have something important to talk to him about?" "He is here. We can talk later," said Raelle.
Mu Chenyan rubbed her temples and left dejectedly. When faced with curious eyes waiting for her outside, she shook her head, "She didn't even lift her head to look at me."
"I knew it!" said Hyson. "This is the most hateful version of Raelle Xiang."
"Say less about my wife," said Shui Xian.
"But I'm speaking the truth. Xian Ge, you have never faced this version of hers. Usually, she always looks into your eyes and then talks to you. Even if she has no expression on her face, she lets people know that she is listening attentively. It makes you feel good when you're talking to her. But at this time, she might not even respond to you when you talk to her."
Shui Xian patted his shoulder saying, "I'll take this challenge. Go and wait. I'll bring her out."
"No way, you can't."
"I just said, go!"
Feeling brave, Shui Xian opened the door and entered the library. He walked around and found Raelle. She really didn't pay attention to anyone else. He purposely took a book from the bookshelf and dropped it but she seemed to have not heard. Then he took a vase and put it down heavily making a loud noise but Raelle was still unresponsive.
Shui Xian had to believe in what Hyson said. Raelle was really different right now. Usually, she wouldn't be so silent when she heard such loud noises around her. It was disturbing but right now, it seemed to have no effect. And that showed how her brain and attention were completely on the book and whatever was happening in the surroundings had nothing to do with her.
He finally went to sit in front of her and said, "Wife, what are you doing?"
"Reading," was her answer and she didn't continue after that.
Raelle took deep breaths to calm her breathing as she sat up and got down from the table. She fixed her hair and asked, "I forced you?"
Shui Xian pinched her chin and made her look at him, "You didn't look at me when I called you. I did not like that feeling of being ignored."
"I wasn't ignoring you," she said in her defense.
"But I certainly felt like that," he responded. His face got close to hers as he asked, "Tell me, is that book more handsome than me or more interesting than me?"
"How can this be compared?" she asked, not understanding where his childish temper was coming from.
"Forget it. I don't care if it's more interesting than me. But it can't be more important than your own health," he said seriously shedding away his slyness. "You need to eat. We had an early lunch today and it's already late. We should have dinner right now. Even if you aren't hungry, you have to have a bite. Even if you don't want to eat with me, you have to sit through this dinner with me."
"What's with this stubbornness?" she asked, closing the book she was reading. She was glad to find that it didn't get damaged when they were fooling around just now. "I am just this stubborn when it comes to you," he replied. "Let's go with me now." Seeing her taking the book she was reading, Shui Xian said, "This book won't run away. It's not like I stop you from reading. I know this is the only hobby you have and something you really enjoy. I'd never come between you and your hobby. But you need to have a balance. I said that before too. This kind of thing should not happen again where you forget your own self just because you're so absorbed in reading something. Are we clear?"
"Are you bossing me around right now?" asked Raelle.
"I'm setting the ground rules here," he said. "I believe I can do that as your life partner. You are my other half. I might not have full control over your life but half of you is still mine. I get to set some rules, right?"
"I don't know what has gotten into you but I'd listen to you. Is that okay? Are you happy now?"
"I'll be happy if you don't ignore me again," he responded as he took her hand and pulled her out. "Don't do that again."
"It doesn't happen that often," said Raelle. "I might have lost sense of my surroundings just now. But it happens rarely. I just couldn't stop reading the book."
"I don't mind that. In fact, I don't mind you ignoring me either. But as I said, stop taking your health so lightly. You are someone who always says that eating on time is very important. You gave me a long lecture when you learned that I skip my meals because of work. Remember?"
"I remember.
"Then how could you be someone who do the same?" he asked. "Nothing is more important than a meal. Eating healthy and on time is a secret to live a long life. And I want you to live a long life with me. What's the point of me living a long life alone if you are not gonna be there with me?"
