"You might not be feeling it, but I do," said Gou Danhong. "I don't know if you are too big-hearted or what. How can those words not hurt?"

"I'm not big-hearted," replied Mu Chenyan. "Everyone knows that. My heart is very small. It can't accommodate too many things or people into it."

Gou Danhong gave her a small smile seeing her acting like nothing happened. He didn't know if she was too good at pretending or if was he just unable to see through her. Because he refused to believe that those strong words didn't leave any cuts on her heart. No matter how strong she was, some things would hurt anyone. And she was no exception.

"By the way, Professor Gou, how do you have time to come here at this time?" asked Mu Chenyan clearly trying to divert the topic. Gou Danhong did see her intention but didn't expose her. In fact, he went along with her and replied, "I have been here since noon. We had a conference that went on for too long. Right when it ended, I was about to leave when Jinjin came to tell me how my niece was being bullied in her own hospital."

"I wasn't bullied! I just didn't wanna go too far because of this guy," said Mu Chenyan as she punched Xia Zhao's arm who didn't even flinch. Gou Danhong also looked at Xia Zhao and narrowed his eyes at him, "Sigh! I knew I'd see you with her again."

"Thanks for rooting for us, Professor Gou!" said Xia Zhao.

"That's not what I meant," said Gou Danhong.

"Really? It sounded like that though."

"You don't have to pretend with me," was Gou Danhong's response. "As if I don't know you at all. And did someone mishear or you are really married?"

"We are married," answered Mu Chenyan.

"Sorry for not coming to you before getting married," added Xia Zhao respectfully.

"I don't have that much authority and I do know that. I'm sure you got permission from Brother Tianyu. And since he agreed, who am I to say anything in this matter. But, a heads-up would have been nice."

"We just got married," said Mu Chenyan. "Uncle, don't be so upset about it now. We literally got our marriage certificate today. This very afternoon."

Mu Chenyan patted her shoulder to tone down her fighting spirit as she said, "Dear niece, there is no need for that. There is literally no need for you to follow my footsteps. Be a leader, don't be a follower."

"It's too late for that," was Gou Jinjin's response. "Forget it, tell me more about the proposal?"

Mu Chenyan looked at the time and said, "I'd love to tell you all about it but let's do that another day. It's quite late now. I'm tired from the whole day."

Gou Jinjin bit her tongue and said, "Oops! I almost forgot. I am taking up the precious time of your wedding night. Sorry about that! Please be on your way! I'll come to find you another day to get all the details. In the meantime, I'll seek justice for the disrespect you had to suffer from here tonight."

"These young people say all sorts of things," commented Mu Chenyan.

"But Jinjin is indeed right. You should go now. We'll meet another day," said Gou Danhong.

"Okay, bye Uncle! Bye, Jinni!"

"Bye, Gugu! Enjoy your bridal chamber!"

Mu Chenyan gaped at Gou Jinjin who pursed her lips to suppress her smile right now.

"I thought only my Elle had no filter on her mouth but it seems I was wrong. All these young people have wild thoughts," said Mu Chenyan as she held Xia Zhao and left the hospital with him. She continued to speak all sorts of things but didn't hear a single response from Xia Zhao. So, she finally had to look at him and ask, "What is it? What are you thinking about?"

"Has my mother asked to stay away from me before?" he asked.

"Didn't she always do that?"

"Yanzi, don't try to stall the question like you always do. I'm serious right now. All those unbearable words that she said to you today, she had said them before but you never even thought about letting me know about that? Why? Didn't I deserve to know about this? Why would you hide it from me that she went to you and insulted you with such words that feel harsh to even my ears and I can't even imagine what you must have felt listening to it all repeatedly. Had I known this..."

"If you knew, things would only get more complicated," she interrupted his words. Holding his hand, she looked into his eyes and continued, "I didn't think it was worth it to let you know about this stuff."
