Chapter 6: We meet again

Chapter 6: We meet again

1 was seething in anger as he stared at 4 like he was going to consume him. The entire team's morale was very low at the moment.

They lost and in such a disappointing way; a member had to surrender herself to the enemy.

When 2 opened her eyes, she was shocked to see herself on top of a skyscraper. She turned to the man, who stared at her with glowing silver eyes.

After a moment, he strolled towards her. She was debating about the idea of jumping off the skyscraper but with the speed of teleporting she had seen, the man would surely get her before she hit the ground.

She squinted her eyes as she stared at him. Even with her strong heart, tears filled her eyes. She was going to lose her most precious thing to a man that she didn't know and who had probably killed her team members.

When Derek etched closer, her body trembled. Derek hugged her and patted her hair. He spoke with a soft voice, "What happened to your hair".

2 froze, that caring tone, although much manlier, echoed in her head as she remembered when she was way younger. A scrawny boy with a normal face also embraced her and spoke with such a caring tone.

"...D..De... Derek..", she said with uncertainty

Derek did not answer, but asked coldly, "What happened to your hair? ", 2 had blonde hair and from the texture, it wasn't dyed.

"From an experiment" she answered with a soft voice as she embraced Derek tightly, she forgot she wore an exo-suit but Derek didn't care, he tilted his head and smiled sadly "I never knew you were alive, my family they... They are .....". 2 nodded and said, "I'm sorry we came late."

Derek left her and walked towards the edge of the skyscraper. "I guess he is James then." he was referring to 4.

2 nodded and walked towards Derek, when she was younger, this was a boy that she had feelings for but things changed when her father got a higher position and they left the stronghold.

It has been seven years now, and she had almost forgotten Derek. She could still feel that Derek had friendly affection for her, but it was just a little as his entire being radiated coldness.

Derek had become dark, like their world.

"Derek," she called out softly. Derek glanced at her with a smile, but she could see it was clearly forced, the cheerful and optimistic Derek was gone.

All that remained was just a shell of his former self. "Let's go, my parents will be happy to see you". Her soft voice echoed through the slight wind.

Derek knew there was nothing here for him anymore. He turned towards 2 and stretched his arms.

She came closer and held his hand before she knew it. They were at the convoy.

The soldiers were shocked to see 2 back in one piece and the enemy was with her and though he had no killing intent, his coldness was still overwhelming.

2 rushed towards the captain and said with excitement, "Uncle, it's Derek".

The captain was confused for a moment before his eyes widened, this was the same boy he always told to join the forces so he could build up some muscles, looking at his muscles now the captain was speechless, sculpted chest and tight abs and well-defined contours.

He was a model for soldiers. Ignoring the gaze the soldiers gave him, Derek walked close to the captain and said, "I need a bed."

The captain hadn't spoken, but the medic with glasses trembled in fear and pointed towards their vehicle.

Derek nodded at him and walked towards the vehicle. "he's recuperating. Don't bother about his cold attitude," 2 explained.

The captain squinted his eyes and said, "I could feel hate. He hates something, and it's definitely not the nightmares, well, not exactly them. and with his powers, he is a dangerous man. I have never seen any teleporter with such powers and the black mist... We all know that teleporters have silver mist. Derek may not even be a teleporter".

2 shrugged "Don't worry, he'll be back to normal in no time".

4 was staring at them with knitted brows, he walked towards 2 and removed his helmet, he squeezed a smile and asked "Are you okay?".

2 glanced at him and nodded. She was about to speak when the captain hollered, "Pack up, we move in ten".

"Yes, sir!!" The soldiers answered and began packing up their equipment, 2 and 4 were about to move when the captain called 2 back, and he said softly "You do know this may be your last mission, after what happened I can't take more risks".

Two's face scrunched up. "I'm fine, besides it was Derek so there was no danger." The captain squinted his eyes. "This time..".

2 understood that she was indeed lucky. If the teleporter wasn't Derek, then the situation would be different. The captain wasn't done. He faced 2 and 4 and said strictly," You two will be punished for disobeying orders!".

They both nodded and moved towards their vehicle. The medics were afraid to enter their vehicle, because of Derek, so the captain had to send 2 there to calm their minds.

1 wasn't in a good mood. Derek seemed like a serious rival. He had been trying to get 2 back to her cheerful character but never succeeded, but Derek appeared in such a horrible way.

Going as far as getting two soldiers unconscious, but she was elated when she found out it was him. The most annoying part was his powers, even as ace soldier 1 shuddered when he remembered their battle.

Ten minutes later, the captain gave a command and the round, ball-like drones returned.

The vehicles ignited and zoomed off, 2 stared at Derek's face which had been cleaned, his handsome looks differed totally from when they were young, after seven years they had met again, and her social standing was way higher than before and his abilities were abnormal.

Derek could be of major help in this war but from what he had seen, Derek may never agree.

She caressed his face but was annoyed because the exo suit covered her hands. She stared at the strange long daggers that lay beside him. Their length was much longer than the daggers of teleporters.

At her dad's position, he had teleporters as guards, so she knew almost everything about teleporters, and none of them had two daggers. n0VeLUsb.c0m

Derek had unknowingly turned into a strange existence. The lifelike images on his daggers were intriguing. She knew the western dragon very well, but the Eastern dragon was rare. Their strongholds were far from hers, so not much was known about them.

Angel felt happy to see Derek. She also knew it was over between them years ago, but seeing the female medics ogle his body brought a strange feeling. She somehow felt angry.

She blinked her eyes and tried to distract herself, but her anger kept rising when she saw them touching his body. Angel felt like telling the captain that she wants to leave this vehicle.

But thoughts about what they may do to Derek's body kept her from calling him. After a while, she was finally fed up and said angrily, "don't touch him".

The female medics wanted to ignore her, but when they saw how angry she looked, they stopped.

2 finally relaxed her head, but her mind was in chaos.

The captain took a lighter and lit up the cigarette in his mouth. It always helped him think, and he needed to talk to his friend.

Derek's powers were something that many factions will want for themselves and some of them may try to eliminate Derek to avoid their opposition from getting him and which will cause a disaster. He had seen Derek's abilities, and he would be hard to kill.

Derek was a significant change and the prime problem was he did not have an iota of feeling to help the government.

Maybe he had stopped considering himself a part of it, and that was a problem.

The convoy passed the huge main gates of stronghold eleven. The commander looked back at the rapidly disappearing wall and sighed. A stronghold was bigger than a normal city, and these last few strongholds had millions of humans living in them.

"millions gone and the number of their dead didn't even reach ten thousand," the commander sighed.

The road was littered with dead nightmares. The super-powered Gatling guns mounted on the walls were the only weapons that could kill nightmares in great numbers.

He stared at the dark sky and sighed, "It's darkness, an endless darkness".

Darkness that may never end and a war that humans may lose. This was the reality of the dark world.
