⟦LAPPD⟧
Back inside of her office at the underground bureau of the Los Angeles Paranormal Police Department, Theresa was looking at her screen with dark emotions in her eyes. The night had been long and exhausting for her, far from the cushy job she had wanted while coming here in the first place.
She had her doubts initially but after scouring through the data available on hand, she realized that something happened on the sea not far away from the city of Los Angeles.
The fact that she did not know exactly what happened even after extensive research made her unable to sleep without having nightmares. In short, she was not able to sleep at all.
After all, while she liked the advantage of being a Director in charge of a city, the responsibilities were no joke and could be quite crushing if taken lightly. Just as she was doing so till now. She had already prepared herself to lose her life for her beliefs and her job but what was happening now was driving her to the brink of insanity and beyond.
"Tea…"
"Thanks. What would I do without you, my dear student…"
Her brooding was interrupted as Makoto entered the room with a steaming cup of tea in her hands. Just looking at it made her feel like she was being rejuvenated.
Obviously, it was a special tea made with herbal plants that helped in calming and sharpening the mind.
Right now, working more than this would only be detrimental for her so all she could do was just sigh out loud.
"Did the church send an answer?"
She had been busy all night moving things around and learning all she could about this unprecedented incident. She had to call many people for that and that inevitably led to her blood pressure increasing to dangerous levels, but she believed that it was worth it in the end.
"The government accepted the dispatch of a Zodiac on these lands and the saintess said that ⦗Virgo⦘ was available and would come around in December."
"Hmm… This was a little too easy."
She frowned heavily at the words of her student. Zodiacs were extremely rare and there were only 26 official zodiacs in the whole world. With 13 in Asia and 13 in the rest of the world.
For countries, A zodiac was no different than a nuclear weapon. They represented the absolute peak of human power and were humans who could not even be considered human as they had reached the absolute peak of what was possible in this world in a given field.
Anastasia of the sign of ⦗Virgo⦘, the Blind Maiden— a woman of faith who lost her sight in order to obtain the power to look into the heavenly principles and gain the power of Foresight.
She might not be the strongest Zodiac out there, but she was definitely one of the most respected and acclaimed among all the Zodiacs in existence for her deeds.
'This smells fishy to me. In the first place, why did the saint come to Los Angeles for seemingly no reason?'
Theresa knew that this may be simple paranoia on her part. But now, there were simply too many coincidences to consider it to be just simple paranoia and push it to the back of her head.
This could only mean one thing…
Los Angeles was currently a convergence point. A singularity had appeared and Fate was starting to move around that person and that was the reason behind the recent circumstances and calamity-level events that were happening in this place.
'Fuck…'
If she was right about this… This also meant that Los Angeles was only at its second crisis and many more would appear soon in the future.
"But who could it…"
A call icon appeared at the corner of her eyes and she recognized the number to be her sister, Cecilia's.
Instantly, she was able to connect the dots as a terrifying thought came to mind…
"Haha… Holy… Just what is…"
If she was not wrong. No, she was sure that while she was only speculating, there were too many facts that were aligning together for her speculations to not be right…
'Is Adam the singularity?'
This would make so much sense and she realized once again that she truly needed to become close to him now before her feeling of duty made her act against him.
"Hello." She raised an eyebrow when she heard Cecilia's question, "You want to invite me and Makoto for Thanksgiving?"
She chuckled, "I would say yes but… It honestly depends on one thing. Ahem~ Are you the one cooking the dinner?"
She released a sigh of relief when the answer that came was indeed negative. She had enough headaches now and didn't want to have an upset stomach on top of that.
"Very well. I will participate." This would be the perfect time for her to relax a little and have a closer observation of Adam.
Once the call ended, Theresa turned toward her student,
"So. Makato, wanna dress up?"
Makoto shuddered at those words. Knowing that she was about to face something she dreaded more than anything in this world.
Shopping.
———
Theresa was not the only one that wanted to go shopping.
Sitting in the back of a large SUV while Mammoth was in the driver's seat, Shuri and Yui were both discussing at high speed, making Mammoth feel like bullets were being fired in an open battlefield.
"Why do we have to go shopping? This is just a simple moment. For one, I have not done such a thing in months so I need to unwind a bit. Furthermore, I looked at your dresser and it was horrible."
Yui dismissed Shuri's words with a wave of her hand.
"I would have lent some of my clothes to you but…"
She looked at her own relatively slender body then gazed at Shuri's explosive body and chuckled in dismay, "For some reason, I have the feeling that my clothes would not really suit you."
She laughed quietly as Shuri blushed heavily at her words. The places where she was looking were quite evident after all.
"Well then. Time to go."
