"This is enough now. You reached your limit."
This time, Medusa did not listen to Adam as she activated the injection of the antidote.
Soon, the blackish veins seemed to vanish slowly as the antidote was administered. The pain that had threatened to take over his mind calmed down and he was able to think a little more clearly.
"Haha…"
A bleak laugh escaped from his lips and his head was pounding so much that he could hardly think.
"At least…This is good torture…Training."
"If you are able to make such a stupid joke now, I think you are good."
Medusa studied the information on her computer. Adam had nearly reached the point of no return. Had she not intervened he would have died here.
A few seconds passed like this as Adam slowly gathered back his breath before focusing on the light of the ceiling.
"I am good now."
"Thankfully, you have seen the light. If you really want to train your resistance, I can —"
"No. You are misunderstanding."
Adam looked at her, "I rested enough. Begin again and this time… Increase the dose."
"You….Are you out of your mind?"
What kind of madman asked this? Even a masochist would not wish to be placed in such a situation and go through such pain again.
"You did say you would do whatever to help me as long as it doesn't go against your interest, right? So do as I asked."
Adam had the urge to laugh even in such a situation. Seeing the flustered Medusa reminded him of how his mom had reacted when he asked her to reduce him to ash.
Medusa gritted her teeth before preparing a new blend.
"If you want to go mad, then let's become crazy together."
She decided to greatly increase the proportion of poison. Even if his heart stopped for a short time, she had the confidence of bringing him back to life quite fast.
Perhaps dying once was what he needed to stop this madness.
Once the new blend was crazy, she approached Adam and looked at him. His body was covered in dried black blood. His eyes were still bloodshot and his chest was moving up and down too fast.
All those were clear symptoms that he was about to reach his limit. But yet he still wanted more.
"Just to be clear. Are you some kind of hardcore masochist?"
Adam chuckled with difficulty as he stretched his arm with difficulty for her to inject the poison.
"Honestly, at this point I would be happy if I was."
Medusa nodded, "This is going to hurt."
"I know."
"You might die."
"I don't mind."
"....Adam Gospel. You are certainly one of the craziest bastards I had the chance to meet."
"Heh, I will take this as a compliment."
His smile cramped when the poison was injected and Medusa immediately left the room to go back to her machine and observe his situation.
This time, the poison moved much more slowly. As it was firstly eliminating the antidote that had been previously injected.
But for Adam, this was not all good news. After all, the pain was extremely amplified as the poison and the antidote fought in his body.
His temperature rose greatly and soon his entire body had a rose hue as if his own blood was boiling.
Groan leaked out of his lips as Adam began to move his body more by instinct than anything else. Trying to escape the progressively growing pain.
It felt like thousands of ants were climbing on his skins and nibbling at him, tearing him slowly apart.
His flesh began to crack and black blood oozed out from the wounds.
Finally, the antidote was beaten and like a beast pouncing at his prey, the pain flooded him.
Pain, pain and even more pain.
The pain of Ravenous beasts feasting on his body. The pain of his bones breaking in thousands of small pieces. The pain of his internal organs rupturing.
It felt like Adam finally understood the true meaning of pain as hundreds of different sensations flooded his brain and cut off his thoughts.
The laboratory began to tremble as Adam lost control of his body. His scream that seemed to come from the deepest part of his soul blasted at the shield like they were ready to break it.
Equipment began to fly as his telekinesis took over and even some parts started to burn or freeze.
Medusa witnessed all those phenomena with bated breath. She knew that Adam was strong. But for the first time, she realized that she had underestimated just how wide his skills were.
"Shit."
She stepped back in hurry when electricity zapped and her console short circuited.
"No!"
She watched with terror as she was now in no way able to verify what Adam 's current state was and was even more unable to administer the antidote in time.
"Adam! Can you hear me!?"
She approached the door while screaming, ready to blast it open but was pushed back ruthlessly.
"Fuck."
She cursed at the weakness of her current body. Her eyes gleamed with a terrible light and her glasses cracked.
Even though she was not at her peak, she was still a zodiac and there was no way she would let a simple door block her way.
"Adam!"
Still no answer. So she simply looked at the door and everything froze. The door transformed immediately into stone and she destroyed it with a kick before running at him.
She did not even try to understand what was happening as she tore the small bag of blood and opened his mouth to dump it in him.
'Come on! Come on! Come on!'
She had been too complacent and she risked losing one of her last hopes.
She became even more worried when the storm of prana ceased, as it could mean nothing good.
Thankfully, when she placed her ear to listen to his heartbeat, she realized that he had a pulse.
*Cough* *Cough*
His body convulsed as he leaned forward and vomited black blood.
"Adam! Are you alright!?"
She knew it was a stupid question as soon as she asked. But what she did not know was that Adam was filled with jubilation, mixed with frustration.
After all, a new line appeared in his book.
New trait:
[Poison Resistance—(F)]
