Soon, Su Ruomei reached the room where the gunfire originated, and reported Tang Ziyi, who alerted the police on the other side to cease firing across another building.
After receiving confirmation from Tang Ziyi, Su Ruomei gestured the rest to advance silently yet swiftly. They separated into two stacks, on either side of the close threshold.
On the other side, they could obviously feel the gunfire and knew their enemies were located behind the door.
Su Ruomei twitched her muzzle up and Jiang Yu opposite hers retracted the carbine buttstock under her armpit in a high ready position, muzzle pointed upward, while the other hand grabbed the doorknob.
A clear professional movement instructed by Tang Ziyi for every female guard belonging to Ling Qingyu.
Both of them felt a squeeze in their arms from behind, a message telling them, the rest was ready. All of them in high-ready posture, their muzzles ready to snap back on target accurately.
Breathing in and out, Su Ruomei nodded her head imperceptibly and gave her full concentration as the doorknob was turned and slammed inward.
Su Ruomei rushed in through the small threshold and quickly covered her corner. Seeing two enemies, she squeezed the trigger. Double taps at each target.
The bodies slumped to the ground, her aim still upon them, not relaxing yet, trusting her team to take care of their responsibility.
While Jiang Yu, as a second, followed behind her steps and covered the opposite, releasing shots. The members behind her flooded into the room, taking a strong stance and firing rounds at the stunned enemies in their sectors, dominating the room.
"Clear left!" Su Ruomei shouted.
"Clear right!" Jiang Yu cried out. The team carried on clearing the remaining dead space.
"All clear." The carbines in their hands returned to resting posture when suddenly, someone fired again.
Snap. Snap. Snap. Snap.
It was a double-tap rhythm, that everyone was familiar with. The members' eyes looked at the culprit weirdly, whose body became stiff, and chuckled sheepishly.
"Sorry, I just dead-checked them." She scratched the back of her ears.
Hearing her words, the rest of the sisters, including Su Ruomei and Jiang Yu, had their eyelids twitched with complaints.
Please! Sister, we're now a SWAT unit, working under Police. We're no longer in the military. Have you ever seen a single police officer dead-checking the suspect?
Silent collective slaps to the forehead rang in their minds. Su Ruomei cut in. "Okay. Leave it be."
"You're welcome but I believe you'll do the same for your colleague." Tang Ziyi replied. The man was also lightly injured. She could see bloodstain on the shoulders and arms.
But he didn't grimace once as he conversed with her. A strong resolute man. He explained the event from his perspective and Tang Ziyi understood more about the situation.
It wouldn't be wrong to say without this man's decision, the entire police squad could likely be decimated here before Tang Ziyi arrived.
She radioed back to the police headquarters. "Command, this is Bravo. Team One and Team Two had been rescued. All threats surrounding the area have been neutralized. Everything seems clear for now. I suggest extracting them to a safe location."
There was a pause on the line. "Good job Bravo. Thanks for the assist. How are they?"
"Every officer suffers injury to some extent, not worrisome. But 5 are severely wounded. One in a very critical condition, shot in the head." Tang Ziyi sighed after she spoke.
To her, it was a miracle, this man still breathed. She wasn't sure if he would make it to the hospital or would he ever wake up from unconsciousness.
"Bravo, bring them back inside your vehicle to the hospital. No ambulance dares to enter your area. I believe you can make the call."
"Understood. Command." Tang Ziyi informed the situation to the team leader, who nodded and cooperated with her actions. Afterward, Jiang Yu's group came and quickly finished the necessary treatment.
At least, first aid items produced by Athena were more well-equipped and sophisticated. All the indispensable kits were available in contrast to the officers' poor budget styles.
A more complete first aid medical process helped the casualties, increase their chance of survival, and lessen the consequences in the future.
"Sister Tang, could you please bring the stretcher from our vehicle." While treating the comatose person, who was shot in the head, Jiang Yu requested Tang Ziyi, who asked the other sisters for help on the radio.
Later, a stretcher was delivered to the scene and Jiang Yu and the others lifted this man. No one expected this man to really survive, but everyone did their best.
Tang Ziyi talked to the leader. "Do you have any important documents and stuff left on your vehicle?"
"Not that, I'm aware of." The man shook her head.
Tang Ziyi nodded. "Then, it's good. We'll have to extract your team with our vehicles. Prepare your men."
Tang Ziyi raised her voice. "Everyone, the severe casualties will enter my vehicle; the rest will follow Bravo 2. Let's go."
A few moments later, everyone including the officers who were rescued were ushered into two Aegis. Fortunately, their armored truck had an extra space compared to their counterparts.
Although a bit congested, everyone had a place to sit. Inside Tang Ziyi's Aegis, a stretcher, along with other critically wounded officers were attended by Jiang Yu and some girls, who were serving as medics.
