Alex stood beside Varon, Guardian Elmara, and his two guardians inside the lab room of Lady Elmara, with everyone having their eyes set on the small red dome of revolving mist before them.
Alex waited in anticipation for any changes, and finally, after a few minutes, the dome of red energy started to dissipate as he heard a system notification which made him close his eyes and drop his head.
[Devourer Curse Removal Failed]
[1K Energy Point Spent]
'If even a mortal with no strength couldn't be cured of the curse, then there is close to zero hope for those who have lost their sanity and are at the end of the first stage and zero for individuals of higher strength,' Alex thought, taking a deep breath to calm his emotions.
Alex didn't have any hope for the skill to work on a similar scale as the Nirvana Elixir, but he had hoped for the incomplete Red gem to be capable enough to cure individuals within the Mortal limits, but that little hope was crushed with the first test.
"It is a Failure," Alex said, expecting to see some disappointed faces, but he saw the opposite.
Varon had a bright smile, his eyes shining with excitement, while Lady Margaret looked thrilled, and even Elder Darrien's emotionless, cold face had a smile.
Alex felt confused as he could see the failed notification floating before his eyes, but seeing the excitement from the four mighty figures as they looked toward the Youg boy lying unconscious on the floor, he knew something good had happened even after the failure.
"The Devourer Curse at its core is still present, but all the corrosion to his mind and genetic structure is completely gone," Lady Elmara said, her cold face holding a smile as she lifted the unconscious boy into the air covering his body with various runes.
After hearing Lady Elmara, Alex understood the reason for the group's happiness because with the corrosion to one's mind healed, the curse's effects were back to the beginning stage.
The cured individuals could live a healthy life for five to ten years before again reaching the critical state and needing to be placed in the state of Cryonics, but now they wouldn't need to as there was a cure.
Alex felt a burden elevate from his mind knowing that now he had the sustainable cure to the damm curse, incomplete but still vastly better than having no cure.
"Domain Ruler, Use the Skill on him once more, and Varon, You go and bring some coffins, one at the second stage of the curse, three with the strength of early to peak stage Elementalist affected with the first stage of the curse and three at the second stage of the curse," Lady Elmara, said and Varon vanished while Alex instantly prepared to use the skill.
After four hours, testing was done, and even though the devourer curse couldn't be cured completely, the testing results were still extremely positive, much better than anyone had expected.
·ƈθm The good news was that the selective refinement skill could heal the Mind and genetic damage to the individuals at the peak of the fourth Rank, even those affected by the curse's second stage, and presumably even the individuals with the strength of fifth and sixth Rank.
The bad news was that to cure a single Fourth Rank individual infected with the first stage of the curse, the Gem used 100K energy points and doubled if the curse was on the second stage, but for the Fifth Rank individuals, the required energy points were close to a million.
The energy point consumption for a sixth Rank was over three million points which was an issue because Alex needed to spend hours burning through a vast number of rare materials to gather such a number of energy points.
'I have so many plans, with exploring the path of mana warrior in the real world, expanding my organization, and advancing my own strength, but Now that I have a cure, I can't just selfishly leave the domain inhabitant to their suffering,' Alex thought, struggling to come up with a plan to his situation.
Alex was thrilled after seeing the test results and knowing he now held a cure to the curse that was destroying the whole domain, but with it also came the mental burden to now save every individual he could.
Alex was not like any other player who viewed the Ancient world as nothing but a game and its people as programmed NPCs, but he knew the world was real so were its people.
Alex, with a conscious mind, couldn't just decide not to do his very best to save the domain people and not any random people but people for whom he was given probably the greatest opportunity a player could receive in the ancient world.
"Domain Ruler, You don't need to worry about healing anyone, at least not until you advance your Rank, which will, in turn, gives you better control over the artifact abilities and allow you to heal thousands of individuals simultaneously, and not the measly ten," Lady Elmara said, seeing Alex deep in thoughts.
"I appreciate that you want to help, but you don't have any other choice but to accept my advice unless you want to waste months of your time with no results when you should be spending that time improving yourself for the bigger goal," Lady Elmara said, her expression and tone returning to her cold self.
'She is right. As of right now, at best, I can help a few hundred, not even a drop in the number of individuals affected by the curse, but I can help hundreds of thousands after growing my strength in a much shorter period,' Alex thought, taking a few deep breaths to clear his mind.
"Now, all of you can leave. I need to do some research, and I will also take care of these lucky ones,"
"Domain Ruler, You make sure you don't go around healing domain people at random, as it will do more harm than good," Lady Elmara said as she walked toward the unconscious individuals who lay on floating stone beds.
Varon opened a portal, and Alex entered it, appearing in a dark empty hallway, and without waiting for anyone, he sprinted forward, his destination being the palace treasury.
Alex had already informed Varon of his desire to repair his damaged legacy weapon even before he visited the treasury, and he was offered to use the reserve weapon stash to his desire.
Alex planned to decline the offer at first, but after visiting the treasury, he knew that he couldn't put even a dent in the vast reserve of the treasury, so he happily accepted the offer.
Alex reached the treasury gate, which opened for him, and entering inside, he saw Varon standing before an open vault, and without saying anything, he entered the vault.
Alex was greeted with a room similar to the last room filled with mountains of various weapons just lying on top of each other, while at the back of the room, there were tall racks filled with a singular category of weapons.
Those racks stood tens of meters tall, holding thousands of weapons in place, and beside each line of the rack, there was a floating disk, which he recognized as a levitation dist used to easily reach any place of the stand.
Alex took Umbris, his legacy weapon, out and walked toward the nearest stash of various weapons of different qualities and started using the Absorb skill on them, slowly restoring his legacy weapon.
