When Lei Zhen left the office without hesitation, Kate smiled bitterly.
"Lei Zhen is really one cautious person, right?" She turned toward Chris and asked.
Chris nodded his head in agreement.
"Although I feel like he's being overly cautious, you have to keep in mind his previous position. As the chancellor, he had to make a lot of decisions in the war. Those decisions are something that dictates the life and death of people." He then said solemnly.
He might not have said anything, but he was indeed impressed by Lei Zhen's mentality to remain calm and collected.
Meanwhile, Kate was completely dumbfounded by his words.
She always thought it was easy for Lei Zhen to command everything, but being reminded by him sent her into turmoil. She had never really thought about the position and decision that Lei Zhen made at all.
She was just there saying "yes" to every command done by him.
"Thanks for the reminder, Chris." Kate smiled bitterly. Because Lei Zhen never complained once to her, she would have remained ignorant about this forever if not for his words.
"Welp, as long as you figure this out, then my job here is done." Chris smiled slightly and stood up. "As for our cooperation, we can remain as it is."
With that said, Chris left the office, leaving Kate alone who held a bittersweet smile, silently thanking Lei Zhen.
'Such a man is rare to see nowadays.' She sighed inwardly.
While Kate was feeling down and dejected at her office, Lei Zhen had already made his way to the ministry of defense.
Ministry of Defense
"Hello, chancellor, I've been expecting you." George smiled brightly as he echoed for Lei Zhen to take a seat.
"Sorry for the late arrival. I was busy with the mourning ceremony." Lei Zhen sat down and said.
"Of course, as the chancellor, it's a given that you're a busy man."
"Alright, let's stop with the flattering and begin with the serious talk."
"Understood, I'll get to the point right away" George's smile instantly disappeared, replacing the smile with a solemn expression instead.
He then walked toward his desk and grabbed a large scroll, revealing a large map on the table, showing the geographical area of Lux Forest.
"Recently, the patrol guards have been spotting more and more monsters around these areas." He said, pointing at numerous blocking camps.
The blocking camps are towers built by patrol guards to scan and inspect the surrounding areas.
At the same time, it was a defense mechanism to prevent monsters from stepping foot on Yors Castle.
Lei Zhen nodded his head and analyzed the recent surge of monsters that appeared.
Almost all of the monsters came from the main path and onward to the deployment points set by Yors Castle.
If it was just one or two times, then it could be counted as a coincidence.
However, if it had happened every single time, then it's most likely controlled by someone with malicious intentions.
"Seems like we'll have to make a trip to the swamp region." Lei Zhen said, pointing at a wide range of fields that were labeled swamp.
"Does the chancellor think these monster waves have something to do with the black mage?" George asked, given that traces of the black mage was found in the swamp.
Lei Zhen nodded his head.
"Indeed, and I finally figured out one more problem that has been brooding my mind." He said calmly. The Goblin Mob that he had encountered from the beginning after an error by the system.
There was a reason why he had received only 2 experience points, and it was the fact that the Goblin Mob was a summoned monster, not a real natural one.
Back then, he was still not wearing the Ferold's Ring, so it was impossible for the curse to activate at that time.
In addition, Lux Forest was probably the black mage origin since numerous monsters appeared from there.
'Sigh, the answer has been in front of my face the whole time. Yet I failed to spot it until now.' Lei Zhen shook his head in disbelief.
Sometime later, George hurriedly assigned a guard from the outside to get ready for an expedition to explore the swamp.
"Chancellor, will you come along as well?" George then asked him.
"No, I don't think I will." Lei Zhen shook his head. Not everything must be done with him there. Other people should be useful too since they managed to obtain this role.
George understood that Lei Zhen should be busy with other important work as well, so he didn't insist and dismissed himself. Now that he have gotten a clue about the recent monster waves, there was no way he would sit idly in his office and wait.
ραпdα nᴏνa| сom After George left the room, Lei Zhen glanced around his surroundings for a few seconds before kindly grabbing the geographical map for himself.
It's not considered stealing if it was left in the one for him to see anyway.
'Phew, save me some extra gold coins to purchase a geographical map and this map is even more detailed than the ones in public stores.' Lei Zhen thought, feeling like he had gained a bargain.
Sometime later, Lei Zhen left the ministry of defense, wondering how he should plan his next move.
The mission that Francis Norton had given him was still active, but he doubt his level could handle such an enemy.
The black mage could easily command thousands of monsters and even have two level 65 Hounds of Nightmare with him, so how could he be some low-level person?
'I'm just a level 17 Crowd Controller. Fighting is not my expertise so the hard work shall be done by others whereas I'll reap the benefits later.' He grinned wickedly.
Right when he was about to leave, Lei Zhen was appalled by the woman standing in front of him, Griselda.
"What the heck are you just standing there for?" Lei Zhen nearly had a fright when she was just standing near the wall menacingly.
