Chapter 296 Heading To The Lancer Guild

Taking a look at the string of notifications he had received, a wide smile gradually crept up on Valyr's face as he brought up the descriptions of the newly transformed skills in front of his field of vision, wanting to make sure if the differences brought about by absorbing Shadow Serpent Essence was similar to what he had been used to in the past.

'All of the techniques I could use in the skills more or less use the same movements,' Valyr thought to himself, the excitement within him building up as he continued to read through them. 'However, the damage is around 50% higher than what it is compared to the skill I've been used to in the past.'

'On top of that, it uses less MP than before!' Though Valyr's hands were itching to test the new set of skills out, especially after finding out that a great portion of the skills' techniques were stronger than what he remembered them to be, he restrained himself for the meantime, reminding himself that he was still inside an inn.

With that, he instead familiarized himself with the description of the various skills, as well as rummaged all of the memories he had pertaining to both [Shadow Serpent Combat Style] and [Shadow Serpent Movement Style] in order to get a better feel for how he was going to use it when he had the chance to.

While familiarizing himself with the transformed skills, he went ahead and upgraded both skills to the highest level they could go, which was Level 10.

Ding!

[To upgrade 'Shadow Serpent Combat Style' to Level 11 and beyond, please obtain an Uncommon Skill Key.]

[To upgrade 'Shadow Serpent Movement Style' to Level 11 and beyond, please obtain an Uncommon Skill Key.]

"Ah, right. A Skill Key." Obtaining a couple notifications out of nowhere, a low sigh swiftly escaped Valyr's mouth after reading them.

As the name implied, a Skill Key unlocked the ability to upgrade skills to higher levels to the user, with each rarity corresponding to a certain level range. With that, an Uncommon Skill Key allowed a skill to level up past Level 10, while a Rare Skill Key allowed a skill to level up past Level 20. This pattern would continue up to the highest tier of Skill Keys, which allowed a skill to level up past Level 90 and reach the highest level a skill could go, which was Level 100.

However, Skill Keys were not only limited to being used in unlocking level limits for skills. These keys were also used in evolving skills to a higher grade as well.

Most of the time, evolving a certain skill to a higher grade would need a Skill Key of the skill's grade. Though, there were a few skills that needed a certain combination of various Skill Keys in order for them to evolve to a higher grade.

Nevertheless, with the thought now in his mind, Valyr could not stop himself from letting out a long sigh, pondering as to how he would get his hands on a great amount of Common and Uncommon Skill Keys. In the end, he decided to leave the matter be for now, taking into consideration the fact that the search for Skill Keys would only start once he had ascended to Rank 2.

With that, after thoroughly familiarizing himself with the Shadow Serpent skills' limits and specifications, as well as upgrading both of the skills to the highest level they could reach in his current state, Valyr eventually made his way out of the Hama Inn, walking through the streets of Algerie City with [Enhanced Polymorph] active as he eventually found himself at the entrance of the place he wanted to go.

"The Spearman Guild," muttered Valyr to himself.

Just like how the various production classes had their own class guilds, combat classes had their own class guilds as well, with a few of them achieving a far greater level of renown throughout the lands when compared to class guilds like the Blacksmith Guild and the Alchemist Guild.

To most beings, the Spearman Guild was considered a subsidiary of the Warrior's Guild, which was itself a part of the Adventurer's Guild. Nevertheless, compared to other classes that could be considered offshoots of the Warrior class, the Spearman class was only slightly less popular than the most popular branch class, the Swordsman class.

However, unlike the six basic combat classes that could only be obtained as a main class, branch classes, such as the Swordsman and the Spearman class, could be obtained not only as a main class, but as a subclass as well.

Watching people enter and exit the Spearman Guild's building for a while, Valyr eventually took in a deep breath before heading inside, arriving in front of one of the guild's various counters not long after.

"Welcome to the Spearman Guild. How may I help you today?" With Valyr appearing in front of one of the counters, the attendant behind the counter went ahead and initiated a conversation with him.

"Uh, yes. Would it be possible for me to obtain the Spearman class as a subclass?" Nodding in response to the attendant's question, Valyr went ahead and asked a question of his own back to the attendant, making sure to keep [Enhanced Polymorph] active all throughout.

"Please give me just a second." After listening to the request Valyr had, the attendant told him to stay put for a while, bringing up a thin tablet before infusing a bit of her own mana into it. Sending a few more pulses of mana into the thin tablet she held not long after, the attendant eventually looked back at Valyr before softly nodding.

"I've just received confirmation that one of the instructors would be able to help you with your request." Hearing these words come out of the attendant's mouth, a faint smile appeared on Valyr's face. "However, before we do so, please pay a gold coin in order to become registered with the Spearman Guild."

Nodding, Valyr rummaged out a gold coin from the money pouch in his pocket before giving it to the attendant.

Receiving the gold coin from Valyr, the attendant swiftly kept the money under the counter before infusing a bit more mana into the tablet she was holding. "All of the other information needed for your registration shall be obtained once your request is complete. For now, would it be possible to obtain your name?"

"My name, huh?" Recalling what he had heard about how the rebel faction of the Zeihardt clan acted, Valyr knew that even using his real name in registering would be enough of a sign for the rebel faction to find out that he was in the city. With that, he came up with a name to use on the spot.

"Ylvar. My name is Ylvar."
