Chapter 1005: Incongruity
Recalling the previous time he'd upgraded Sana, Valyr watched as the blood within the opening Tristan made began to bubble in response to the spear's appearance, prompting him to take a few steps back out of caution.
Feeling the inherent power within Sana gradually increase as more time passed, the young man eventually had a faint smile as his spear left the opening out of its own accord, still remaining connected to the Tidemother's blood through a thick crimson strand.
Being reminded of what had transpired back then through the sight currently in front of him, Valyr soon had a frown on his face, beginning to feel that there was something off to the entire situation that led to this point.
Mulling over the feeling as he continued to watch his spear strengthen itself, the young man eventually had a hunch that the feeling of incongruity he was getting might have appeared ever since he was afflicted with the Mark of the Alltide.
Though he wasn't sure which part exactly during that time caused the incongruity he was currently feeling, he was certain that it all stemmed from there.
'I guess part of the reason why I'm feeling this incongruity is because of what Vaughn and Sellifer told me,' thought the young man to himself.
As far as he could remember, both Vaughn and Sellifer told him that the curse he'd gotten from the Tidemother was a trial of sorts set by Alltide as it wanted to find a successor.
Though he had no idea what successor the Alltide was trying to find, Valyr felt that it didn't make sense for a trial aimed at finding a successor to appear in the form of a curse.
Thinking about the matter for a bit more, the young man soon felt like he was onto something, recalling the words the Greater Tidemother said to him during their fight.
"The Greater Tidemother was furious at me for sullying the life of their kin, for tormenting the soul of their kin to improve my weapon," muttered the young man as he thought out loud, only to pause his thoughts for a brief moment.
Whoosh!
Out of nowhere, Valyr's spear radiated a wave of energy, causing a faint smile to appear on the his face as he felt the spear slowly but surely reach a higher realm of power.
Eventually, as if a switch had been turned on inside his mind, the young man paused what he was doing and stared at his newly upgraded spear before muttering in slight fear.
"But what if there was an external force that pushed Sana to absorb its soul?"
Whoosh!
As these words of speculation left the young man's mouth, a strong gust of wind began to blow throughout the surface of the Greater Tidemother, prompting Valyr to grab onto his spear now that it was finished transforming.
Briefly admiring how his spear now looked more elegant due to it taking on a combination of both deep crimson and gold, the young man swiftly kept a vigilant eye on his surroundings, only for him to hear a loud yet shrill voice talking to him soon after.
"Though you've greatly suffered because of my whims, you've shown a level of strength and intelligence that greatly surpasses your peers."
Listening to these words, Valyr began to feel like he had heard of the voice somewhere, deciding to rummage through his memories to find out where.
Oblivious to what he was doing, the voice continued to speak. "Not only that, but you've also shown a level of determination and conviction that would put many to shame. You've shown that you have what it takes to stand at the peak."
Coincidentally, it was at the end of that statement did Valyr finally remember where he'd heard the voice from.
Though, before he could ascertain whether his memories were true, a strong wave of energy struck him at the back of his neck, swiftly making him fall unconscious.
Thud.
Yet, even with that happening... the voice continued to speak.
"You have been deemed worthy by the Alltide."
"You shall now become its successor."Reêad latest novels at novelhall.com
