Chapter 1009: Divine Intervention

Chapter 1009: Divine Intervention

Hearing the words that left the Alltide's mouth after refusing his offer, Valyr inwardly let out a low sigh as he knew he was putting his life on the line.

Then again, he had already prepared both his body and mind for what's to come, prompting him to hope that it would work out in the end.

Whoosh!

Seemingly having no reason to suppress his aura any further, the Alltide showed Valyr the entirety of the strength his body contained, causing the pressure the young man was feeling from the being to intensify by at least a thousand times.

Yet, even though the young man felt like he was about to succumb to it at any moment, he remained steadfast, believing in what he'd arranged beforehand.

Swoosh!

Boasting a strength that actually rivaled the aura Sellifer showed when they first met in the Void World, the Alltide brandished its claws as it swiped at Valyr, easily imagining the young man turn into shreds.

However, just before the set of claws could land on the young man's body...

Clang!

An equal, if not more powerful force reacted to the claws the Alltide brandished, slashing at it with a set of swords as the Alltide was surprisingly pushed a few steps back from the exchange.

"...?" Naturally, the Alltide was quite surprised that his plans of killing Valyr did not work out. After all, his target was just a measly peak Rank 3 holder.

Then again, that surprise immediately disappeared once he noticed that a man familiar to him had appeared in front of Valyr.

A man... he did not really want to meet.

"I thought you'd already gotten over it after failing so many times." Sporting a set of hair and eyes that were as black as the void of space, the man in front of Valyr looked at the Alltide with a slight frown.

"I'm quite disappointed you haven't moved on, Clazarek."

"...Vaughn." Feeling unpleasant memories gradually begin to surface the moment he laid eyes upon the man before him, the Alltide, also known as Clazarek, began to bare his fangs as an immense killing intent surrounded his body.

"...You came." While Clazarek was seemingly preparing for a fight, Valyr instead let out a wide sigh of relief after seeing Vaughn appear before him.

"How could I not?" Seeing the young man look as if he could faint at any time from the relief, Vaughn let out a bit of laughter as he looked back at the young man, making use of his aura to protect Valyr from the aura Clazarek was letting out.

Of course, it wasn't as if Vaughn immediately knew that the young man was in danger.

If anything, the young man had given him a heads-up through the talisman the moment he felt something was off with the Alltide's words.

Continuing to infuse energy to keep the connection between them going, Valyr allowed Vaughn to more or less listen in to the conversation he and the Alltide had, giving the latter enough time to arrive where the two currently were.

"Consider this your first request out of three." Sensing that Clazarek's aura was gradually rising as time passed, Vaughn tightened the grip on his swords as he gave the young man a smile.

"Also, if you could move to the door behind you, that would be great."

Hearing the statement that came out of Vaughn's mouth, Valyr briefly glanced at the Alltide, only to feel a sense of dread as he noticed that some of the killing intent the being was radiating was aimed at him.

Looking at Vaughn for a bit, he nodded in response before activating [Flash of the Azure Dragon] to hasten his movement speed.

In the end, he surmised that the Alltide had a level of strength that was lower than theirs. Though, in reality, that conclusion partly deviated from the truth.

Letting out a faint sigh of relief as he'd finally pacified Clazarek, Vaughn sheathed the two swords he wielded before turning around to look at Valyr with a faint smile. "I suppose you have a few questions you want to ask Clazarek?"

In response to the question, Valyr looked at the two Divine-level beings for a bit before nodding, prompting the smile on Vaughn's face to slightly widen as he accompanied the

young man in moving closer to the werebeast.

Arriving in front of the werebeast, Valyr was slightly surprised that the injury the former had

sustained was already beginning to heal.

Looking at Vaughn in the hopes for an explanation, Valyr soon heard from him that werebeasts inherently boasted a monstrous rate of regeneration, which transformed a partial state of immortality after Clazarek ascended to the Divine level.

"...Are you planning to finish me off in front of that runt?" Though he was still in the midst of healing from the massive laceration Vaughn had put on his body, Clazarek continued to maintain wariness as he watched the two humans appear before him.

"I could..." said Vaughn in response, eliciting a hint of fear to briefly appear on Clazarek's face

as he felt how the man wouldn't hesitate in doing so. Fortunately, his opponent wasn't planning on taking it that far. "However, I think it'd be better for the two of us if you were to answer this young man's questions instead."

"..." At those words, Clazarek shifted his gaze to the young man he'd been doting on earlier,

the one he was hoping to become his successor.

Of course, such thoughts immediately disappeared the moment Valyr rejected his offer.

"What do you want to know?" Knowing that he more or less had no say in the matter, Clazarek let out a faint sigh as he suppressed his aura to more manageable levels.

In response to the werebeast's actions, Vaughn also decided to suppress his aura, taking a few steps back after that as if to give Valyr the center stage.

"..." Feeling the attention of two Divine-level beings focused on him, the young man pondered over the various questions he had regarding the Alltide in silence, eventually choosing one that seemed to hit the root of everything.

"What's the true reason in choosing me as your successor?"

"..." Hearing the question, the Alltide surprisingly remained silent as he began to look down at the broken floor. At that moment, it was as if he was avoiding the question through all

means.

Unfortunately, having interacted with Clazarek before, Vaughn already knew the answer to

Valyr's question.

"It's far simpler than you'd think," said Vaughn to the young man, prompting the latter to

focus all of his attention on the man's next words.

"The successor part is just a facade."

"In reality, he's just looking for a talented body to possess so he could aim for the higher

ranks of divinity."
