1126 Performance Test
"..." As he watched Vera take care of the orc leader from afar, the young man was left at a complete loss for words. After all, never in his wildest dreams did he expect her to take such an approach in fighting the orc leader.
Sucking in a breath of cold air as he noticed both humans and orcs looking at Vera in fear because of her actions, Valyr eventually turned his head to look at Hal, who watched everything unfold with a calm expression on his face.
"Say, Hal," said the young man as he looked at him. "Was Vera's fighting style like this back in the inheritance?"
"In a way," replied Hal after a bit of thought. "She didn't have that much control over Mystic Energy back then, so she relied mostly on the quantity of attacks she sent out."
Slightly shuddering as he imagined the young woman pelt all of her foes to death with a barrage of magic bolts, the young man inwardly took in a deep breath as he asked Hal another question. "Do you know why she decided to take that approach in fighting? And have you asked her if she ever had plans to change it?"
"Well, as far as I know, she chose that approach because it makes use of her greatest advantage," Hal said to Valyr after a bit of pondering. "Of course, with her being an alchemist, that would be her control over energy."
"As for your second question, I already asked her about it back then, telling her that it kind of didn't suit her personality." Hearing those words, Valyr nodded in agreement.
After all, even before she started fighting the orc leader, though he knew she'd use magic to fight the orc leader, he thought she would use a series of magic spells that dealt a great amount of damage on their own. n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
"What did she say?" asked Valyr in response to Hal's words, looking at the latter with a hint of expectation.
Though, after hearing the words that came out of the man's mouth, that expectation turned into a wry chuckle at the end.
"It was a long-winded explanation about efficiency and whatnot," Hal told Valyr. "But if I were to sum up, it's basically..."
"If it ain't broke, then don't fix it."
"..."
Trying his best to move on from the brief conversation he had with Hal, Valyr took in a few deep breaths as he returned his attention to the fight Vera was having.
Unsurprisingly, with her empowered stats and the incessant number of magic bolts she was hurling, it did not take long for the orc leader to succumb to the accumulated damage.
Letting out a final groan filled with anger and remorse, the orc leader's body soon fell to the ground with a thud, its head a mere husk of what it looked just minutes before.
As the orcs in her vicinity looked at the final state of the orc leader in immense fear, the humans surrounding Vera instead looked at her with slight confusion.
After all, from what they could recall, she was called the Benevolent Saintess, no?
Oblivious to what was going on in other people's minds, Vera swiftly cut off a part from the orc leader she killed before utilizing the same strategy of pelting magic bolts on the orcs she trapped within her field of Mystic Energy.
With that, she briefly alleviated the burdens that many of the groups were facing around each other, allowing them to gain a second wind as they fought against the orcs with even greater fervor.
Knowing that he could only bind so much orcs in place for so long, Valyr hastily channeled Prime Azure Energy into the staff, causing the dark blue crystal at the top to give off a bright azure glow.
"Everyone! Get away from me as quickly as possible!" Choosing to cast the second innate skill his new magic staff contained, the young man did not hesitate to warn all of the people in the vicinity.
Though, it was only when an azure meteor appeared in the sky all of a sudden did they begin to heed his words, all of them briefly glancing at both the meteor and him in great fear as they ran for their lives.
"[Prime Azure Heavenfall]!"
Whoosh!
Bang!
Infusing half of the maximum amount of Prime Azure Energy the skill could handle, an azure meteor around 50 meters in radius soon fell on the battlefield, with the orc leader standing at the center of it all.
Considering the young man's stats at that moment, it went without saying that the orc leader fell victim to the attack the very moment it landed, only for it to all go south once the meteor made contact with the ground.
Boom!
With his pupils shrinking in fear as he watched all of the orcs he bound with Mystic Energy earlier succumb to the meteor's might, Valyr hastily used [Flash of the Azure Dragon] to move away from its area of effect...
Only to realize that he was still within its range before he could even make full use of the skill's effect.
"...Well shit."
Boom!
