9 - The Truth In The Sky

In Reines’s world, super magic was the limit of this world, but Lulurun claimed to be able to use transcendental magics like it were a matter of course.

In a world where the existence of transcendental magics is impossible, there was a complete disagreement between Lulurun and Reines’s views on magic and how unbelievable everything Lulurun was saying.

However, it was an objective fact that Reines’s magic-nullifying blessing failed, and although she did not want to believe it, there was evidence that was making her believe it, Reines’s feelings were shaken.

“The time magic I used on you and that last spell… it was called a magical machine, wasn’t it?” Lulurun said. “I used a decomposition spell and you did realize that your blessing that invalidates super magic didn’t work, right? ”

“That’s,” Reines started.

“Oh, that’s right… I think it’s quickest to just show you,” Lulurun said.

Reines falters at the thought.

“Is there transfer magic in this world?” Lulurun asked.

“Transfer? What the hell is that?” Reines asked.

“If so, this’ll be quick,” Lulurun said.

“Why do say that? Wait, I’ve got a bad feeling about this,” Reines said.

Lulurun casts a spell without chanting.

Rubu.

In an instant, Lulurun and Reines moved from the room in the inn to the sky above the clouds.

“Huh? Wha?” Reines asked.

“This is transfer magic, my originally created spell that can transfer you to a specified point in an instant,” Reines explained.

“Hold up, huh? What? What the hell? HUUUUHHHH!!!!???”

As Reines finds herself suddenly thrown into the sky and panicking, Lulurun gently embraces Reines. Already grasping at straws, Reines puts her arms around Lulurun’s neck and desperately clings to her.

“WHAT THE HELL?! WHAT’S GOING ON?!!” Reines yelled.

“Ow, ow! You’re hurting my neck!!” Lulurun yelled.

Contrary to the interactions of the two, the sunlight shining above the clouds makes the blue-haired girl and the golden-haired knight glow, creating a mysterious moment.

Lulurun casts a floating spell and she hovers in the air with Reines.

“I’m sorry to have surprised you, but I was wondering if I showed you personally, then you’d believe me,” Lulurun said.

“Of course, you surprised me!!” Reines shouted. “You’re an idiot!! YOU’RE AN IDIOOTTTT!!”

“I’m the type who believes in intuition, so I wonder if you can believe me now,” Lulurun said.

“That doesn’t mean you should do this out of the blue! I’m! I’M SCARED OF HEIGHTS!!” Renies yelled with huge tears in her eyes.

Lulurun sees and laughs unintentionally. “Pftt… why do you look like that, hahahaha?!”

The dignified knight was extremely upset.

There were no more appearances of the strongest knight, but a woman whose face has shifted to terror, a feeling of human warmth coming from her hands.

“Do-Don’t laugh! I’ll tear you to pieces!!” Reines said.

As she saw Lulurun’s smiling face up close, Reines saw a somber man over the girl’s face for a moment, and when she blinked, she was back to the magical girl but she felt that wasn’t her imagination.

“What’s your name?” Reines asked.

“Huh? I told you, it’s Lulurun,” Lulurun said.

“Not that!” Reines said. “I want your real name, your previous world name, that ‘bit of a great wizard’ you were, your real name.”

“…”

“You’ve shown me all this so far, I believe what you say, but you’re…” Reines chokes on her words.

It may have been because the words go against her beliefs.

However, what was before her wasn’t a witch, it was a magical girl, one without malice, and Lulurun’s existence as Reines sees it, was just.

“… Not a witch,” Reines finished.

As Reines doesn’t realize how important it was for Lulurun to admit that, she’s delighted.

If she did not respond, Reines would not hold it against her.

Lulurun closed her eyes and said her name, one she thought she’d no longer call herself:

“Yokoi Keisuke.”

“Yokoi Keisuke…”

Lulurun opens her eyes and looks directly at Reines again.

“It’s Yokoi Keisuke.”

She told her her name.

“I see… at least I know now that you’re not a witch,” Reines said.

“Wasn’t that what I was saying from the start? I may look like this, but my soul’s a man over 30,” Lulurun said.

“What?! 30?” Reines asked.

“That’s right, I was a 35-year-old man, but in my previous world, I was touted as a promising young company president… you would definitely not believe it, you know!” Lulurun said.

“… You’re older than me?!” Reines asked.

“That’s right! Sorry about that!” Lulurun said.

“You’re such a beauty but you’re an old man…?” Reines said.

She unintentionally bursts out into laughter, and maybe because Reines’s heart is cleared, her rugged expression loosens a little, and a smile spills out.

“That (red) face is better, Reines von Agrianes”

“What are you talking about?” Reines said.

“No, nothing,” Lulurun said.

Lulurun was delighted from the bottom of his heart because, despite such a fierce battle, the conflict was resolved through dialogue, and after being so determined to kill her, Reines finally believed her, and perhaps… the grief she felt that she was killed by a misunderstanding in her last life, has cleared up a little.

Reines sees the radiant Lulurun and says, “By the way.”

“By the way?” Lulurun asked.

Reines looked away from Lulurun, “… Just Reines is fine.”

“Then, Reines it is,” Lulurun said.

“…”

“You can also just call me Keisuke,” Lulurun said.

“Keisuke…” Reines said.

“After all, you seem to think that name fits me better,” Lulurun said.

“It’s natural, that’s an important name for you,” Reines said.

“Right,” Lulurun said.

“Even though you’re a beautiful girl now, your heart is still strangely that of an old man,” Reines said.

That being said, Lulurun considers herself a woman now, not a man.

“What’s wrong?” Reines asked.

“… Can I ask you to keep my identity a secret?” Lulurun said.

“That you’re a man?” Reines asked.

It was her assumption but it didn’t seem to be the case, as Lulurun continues:

“That’s not it, rather that I’m a magical girl,” Lulurun said.

“Why’s that?” Reines asked. “With your power, Keisuke, we can make a big difference in this world.”

“You think so?” Lulurun asked.

“I know so,” Reines said.

Lulurun understood what great power would produce. The worst ending of great power that Reines could hardly understand. It will surely change this world, so what should Lulurun do?

“Maybe I’m a foreigner to this world, an irregular that shouldn’t exist, maybe if the existence of my great power becomes public, the common sense of this world will break… I feel like with all that, it’s probably best of for this world that they don’t know and for you as well,” Lulurun said.

“If that’s what you think, why did you reveal yourself to me?” Reines asked. “I’m from the Order of the Holy Empire!”

Reines is correct, why should she dare to reveal her secrets if she wanted to hide her identity? Wasn’t it a contradiction? As Reines was confused and demanded an explanation, Lulurun replied:

“Intuition!”

“Huh?”

Intuition, that was the one word.

“You keep your promises, that’s what I thought,” Lulurun said.

“What the hell kind of reason is that…?” Reines said.

“Do you not believe me? If you don’t, I’ll let you go,” Lulurun said.

“Idiot! That’s a dirty trick!” Reines

Though Lulurun was joking around, she was convinced that Reines was a trustworthy person.

“I trust you’ll keep your word, Reines,” Lulurun said.

“No, that’s…” Reines said.

Reines is embarrassed and confused, she can’t respond to Lulurun’s too open-ended words. There was no shadow of the deadly dignity Reines had when Lururun first met her.

“Reines, you were stronger than anyone I’ve fought so far, I’ve seen your strength of heart, your ability to believe, and above all, your straightforwardness, so I thought you would believe me if I spoke properly.”

“You, you’re saying too much…” Reines muttered.

“I don’t want to change the ‘world’ with great power anymore,” Lulurun said.

“Keisuke,” Reines said.

“It hurt and made so many people suffer, and more so, it killed me, too.”

“That’s not your fault!” Reines said.

Once more, she sees the somber-faced man on top of the young girl, it was surely Yokoi Keisuke when he was still alive, a cloudy face far from her happy attitude… a face that Reines couldn’t take her eyes away from.

“It’s only you and what’s within your reach that you can change with your great power,” Reines said.

Because Reines recognized Lulurun’s power, she was moved by her words, Lulurun could never reach the “truth of power” had she only focused on the power right in front of her.

She believed her power could change the world.

“You can just leave it to someone else to change the world,” Reines said.

“Someone else?” Lulurun asked.

However, a person who has a power greater than herself only needs to be able to change herself and her surroundings, after understanding the despair such massive might could cause. Now, Reines irresponsibly says to leave it to someone else.

“If I were you, Reines, I’d be talking about using that power to subdue the witches,” Lulurun said.

“Don’t say that! Your power belongs to you, Keisuke, and you, Keisuke, will choose how to use it,” Reines said.

“That’s right, but,” Lulurun said.

“I will defeat the witches with my power, that’s my vow, so you can leave it to me, Keisuke,” Reines said.

“Mm,” Lulurun said.

As the two revealed their secrets for however long they were in the sky, their atmosphere was like comrades who’d fought for years even though they just met.

Lulurun hoped this time would last forever…

“Keisuke,” Reines said.

“What?” Lulurun asked.

“Please take me back to the inn, I’m scared…” Reines said.

“Oh, sorry,” Lulurun said.

But that wasn’t happening.
