“It is running away,” I said as I jumped from the dead body of Viperman and ran toward Targ, who had started running away.
It ran away the moment it saw we killed Viperman.
I did not waste any time and began to chase Lady Veronica not far behind me. The bastard is quite smart; it knew it would not stand any chance against three humans and thus began to run.
I had a powerful trump card I had not used till now; I had saved for it. If I had used it in the earlier battles, I wouldn’t have had such difficulties.
The things are not completely out of reach yet; while the Grimm possess a far greater speed than us, it will not be able to utilize it all in the area we are in. It is a rainforest, not a desert, without any obstructions where it could sprint at full speed.
Here, the trees were everywhere, and it did not have enough power to crush through any obstructions that came their way.
In a minute, I had already cached up to Silas Bishop; he looked a little surprised but did not say anything.
Sup Sup Sup
The Bullman suddenly up branches of the burned tree and threw them at us; it had only looked back for a moment, but its aim was spot on, but we were also prepared; seeing burnt projectiles coming toward us, we jumped out of the way and followed it.
The branches of the burned tree were standing, and as the seconds passed, it began to throw anything and everything at us, including the mud, which was quite hard to dodge.
I let some of it even hit me; it felt like a sledgehammer, but still better than getting hit with mud that had a piece of stones inside it; they would have torn me apart if they had hit me.
Still, despite all the obstructions, we are gaining ground; I am gaining ground. I have already reached ahead twenty meters ahead of Silas Bishop, and the Grimm is now less than fifty meters ahead of me.
Three minutes more passed, and now there was barely a ten meters distance between the Bullman and me. If it had just stopped and fallen down, I would have been crushed by its body, which of course, wouldn’t happen.
As I reached closer to it, I have brought out my trump card, a bottle. It used to be a potion bottle, but now it had thick grey liquid inside.
I opened the bottle and poured a thick liquid on the blade; the moment I did, the water from the rain fell down on it, and it solidified, forming a layer on the blade.
I have found many poisonous things in this place, most of them useless. If I apply them on the blade, the rain will wash it away, even if I am somehow able to keep them on the blade and even able to use them on the Grimms; it will be detected by it.
All the Grimm would need to do is drink a potion once, and the poison will be dealt with.
I had never thought much about the options till I found the haesran flowers at the base of a huge tree.
These flowers are not much poisonous on their own, but ground them and mix them with any kind of blood, preferably monster blood, and it will transform into a thick poisonous solution, which will solidify the moment it touches any metal.
Still, despite that, I wouldn’t have used it; if not for its powerful paralytic effect, which comes suddenly, and silently.
Since there is no energy involved, it could be detected or destroyed unless, of course, it drinks the healing potion.
Which it will not do unless it senses something, and by the time it does, it will not be capable of drinking a potion.
I had found the flowers yesterday but never used it on any monster or Grimm I had fought. I had been keeping it for someone like Bearman or at least someone like Targ, whom I am chasing right now.
BANG!
I jumped over another big piece of wood it had thrown toward me and continued chasing it; in less than a minute, I would reach it.
I reached it less than half a minute later and was moving toward its legs when suddenly, a huge sword swept toward me.
Seeing it, I couldn’t help but become surprised; not many Grimm would be able to do this maneuver so skillfully as it is doing while still running at full speed.
I could easily avoid it if I wanted to; I just needed to stop, but I had no intention of doing that; instead, I pushed all my power into my legs and jumped.
Hun!
The Grimm was looking ahead, so it did see me jumping and forgetting healing in torrential rain. So, when it saw what I did, there was a clear surprise on its face, but that surprise did not stop it from reacting.
It saw me coming for its neck and craned it down; a simple moment would make me miss my target.
It is quite regretful, but the neck was never my target; I knew it wouldn’t let me target it.
Slice!
So, I spun in the air and changed my direction, and landed back of its hand, right below its shoulder. I used one hand to grip its icy white fur and used the other hand to leave the huge gash across its hand.
The gash was not deep; the potion I had, and with only my hand, I was not able to get the power I needed to burrow my sword deeply. What I did what akin to a minute injury, which will heal in a few minutes, but to me, it is a success.
The substance only needed to touch its blood, and it did; the way I use the blade, nearly all substances covering the sword touched its blood. A result much better than I had imagined.
The moment I did, I felt it shaking its hand; I did not resist; instead, I pushed my legs against it and used the momentum to jump back.
As I appeared in the air, it tried to flip its huge sword at me and kill me like an insect, but I changed my place through the spin and avoided the sword by inches before landing on the ground.
“You should have gone after its neck,” said Silas Bishop as he ran past me; I did not say anything and just followed with Lady Veronica, who was not much behind.
I once again drank the stamina potion and ran with Lady Veronica; I did not rush like before; it would be taking too much risk for a job that was already nearly done. I need to be ready for what happened after the poison kicked in; in any condition, I could not let it drink the health potion.
A few seconds later, Silas Bishop reached it, and the way it began to attack, and this time seemed to go all out, taking much greater risks than before.
Still, his opponent is good. It is defending well; even if it was suffering injuries, it was on non-fatal parts, which did not affect its performance.
