"Wake up~"

I heard a soft voice calling to me.

"Are you alright?"

Okay, now the voice didn't seem as soft. On the contrary, it sounded rough.

"Ughh."

,m I suddenly remembered the pain I was going through, as my head ached and brought me out of my fantastical dream.

What was that dream again? I couldn't remember the content, but I somehow remembered the feeling. I was happy in the dream. I was feeling content with myself, which I usually don't.

My head was a mess made out of headaches and confusion, my thought train getting a break due to someone interrupting me.

"Flynn Grey, are you alright? Can you remember what happened to you?"

My blurry vision finally started getting clearer and clearer as I heard the voice speak to me. I could see a man in a white long coat, with grey hair and transparent round glasses on his nose looking at me inquiringly.

Squinting my eyes to adjust to the sudden brightness and to fix my blurry vision, I slowly said.

"....yeah, I am fine."

"Hello, Mr Grey, I am Dr Daniel McJohn, the head of the Kibea Healthcare Branch of Delta city."

The man introduced himself and I started looking around. I was in my room, and the small room was filled with people. Most of them looked like doctors and some looked like people who did corporate jobs.

"Ahem, hello, Dr Daniel. I am… Flynn."

I tried to stand up, only to stumble.

"Watch out, you are not in a condition to be moving right now."

A feminine hand held on to me and kept me from falling. Turning around, I could see a familiar figure.

"Who…?"

"Hello, I am Scarlett McJohn. That guy's sister and also the head of Kibea International Corporation's Branch of Utah."

'Nepotism!!!'

'Visit (No ve (l)B i n) to read, pls!',

The woman who held me was nothing short of a model. She wore a long brown coat, which reached below her knee. Inside she wore black jeans and a turtleneck white t-shirt. She had the same grey hair as her brother, a bit tanned skin yet still on the fairer side and aquamarine eyes.

She had a mature demeanour and looked like someone who people would hesitate to talk with.

"Hello, I am Flynn Grey, 22 years old, single."

I flashed the brightest smile that I could muster with my headache and held out my hand, which was grabbed by Daniel.

"Very nice to meet you, you just introduced yourself twice. I guess you are really fine. If so, can we have a little chat?"

He said with a smile while his words were coming out from in between his gnashed teeth.

"Chat? Yeah, sure. By the way, what time is it?"

I couldn't help but ask. I had passed out due to various circumstances, and these people had probably come running because I passed out while playing [Mayhem]. Kibea corporation had a whole healthcare branch in every city to just take care of people who encounter any kind of health problem from the game.

But, I didn't know why they mobilised the whole team and sent the department heads of their respective branches, but I sure as hell knew it had something to do with me being the legendary class.

"It's almost 6:30 pm in the evening."

Daniel said while stretching a professional smile.

"Oh, so it's already been 5 hours?"

I couldn't help but sigh. So much time wasted!

Scarlett, who had the same professional smile as Daniel, somehow more charming than him, corrected me.

"No, it's been 2 days and 5 hours. It's the 25th of March today, the year 2107."

"What?!"

'The fuck-!'

I suppressed my curse and asked while exclaiming.

"It's natural to swear in this situation, but try to control your composure. Your body metabolism is yet to fully recover.."

Scarlett chuckled as she said. Was she a mind reader? That didn't matter!

"But really? What the heck? Two whole days? …my hard-earned job… the jobs ...."

I felt like crying tears of blood. In this world where a piece of paper, as in the degrees, decide one's future apart from [Mayhem], it was hard to find a job being a college dropout. Especially a corporate office job like the one I did, it was like finding a needle in a desert.

"Calm down, Mr Grey. Don't think too much about unnecessary stuff."

Daniel said as he pointed a gun-like device at my head. I would have already done a hands-up if I didn't know that the gun-like device was the latest emergency health checker.

It was called an APHC Device, which meant an all-purpose health check device and it checked someone's body's condition as long as the ray of light generated from it touched the target's body.

"Now, now, things are much better than before. Just calm your nerves, or else your blood pressure would shoot through the roof."

Daniel said as he checked the details that flew out on a holographic screen from the device.

***

I was currently seated above the VR capsule that had made me take a loan from my aunt and had become the source of all my current troubles and happiness.

"So, what exactly happened to you? What were you thinking that made all your brain cells go haywire to such a degree? You know you could have died just now?"

Dr Daniel asked me in a strict voice. He seemed like the type to care a lot about his patients.

'',

"Well, it's something that I can't share with you. Just know that I just thought of some unpleasant memories."

I answered, telling them half of the truth. I never wanted to face my past again, that's why I had buried it so deep that I didn't want anyone to dig it out.

"Okay. I understand as a human, you have your own share of secrets and privacy that you wouldn't want anyone to intrude on. But but but, I am your assigned doctor you know? I don't want anyone dying while playing [Mayhem], so you would have to be very honest with me."

Daniel said, knitting his eyebrows. I could understand where he was coming from, but I understood myself more than I understood him. And I didn't want anyone to possibly know about my past.

"Well, you just talked about being a human, everyone has their privacy and stuff. I guess he doesn't have that right, since he's a defective metahuman."

A guy behind Scarlett, probably her attendant, blurted out as he was rummaging through his Skreener device.

I immediately jumped from the capsule I was sitting on and ran towards him. Before anyone had any chance to react, the guy was already hanging by his neck in my hand.

"Khukk- l-leave, cough cough, r-release m-khukh argh!"

The guy tried to plead, but I couldn't listen to his voice. The defence mechanism that I had created in me was already triggered and I couldn't control my overflowing emotions.

"Leave him alone Zephyr, what would your mother think of you if she saw you like this? Think about your brother's future. Do you really want to become a criminal so bad?"

-Thud!

My grip immediately loosened after hearing the name that I had tried so hard to forget, as the guy in the black coat fell on his butt, holding his own neck while coughing crazily.

I couldn't give a batshit about him as I gave a threatening glare to Scarlett who had just spoken.

"If you have dug so much about me, you better know who you are dealing with. Zephyr has died and the government has agreed to it. Do you really want to mess with the United Countries' Organisation?"

I spoke, a chilling voice unconsciously leaving my lips.

"My subordinate misspoke, please forgive him on my behalf. And don't worry, we are here purely for your health and [Mayhem], we don't have any other intention. Here see this."

Scarlett passed her Screener device to me and I saw the contents of the hologram.

"Yeah, I am sorry for overreacting. I would prefer it if you didn't reveal anything that happened here. About my health, I am ready to do a full checkup."

Scarlett nodded at my words. Soon, I was guided out of my apartment and sat in a car with Daniel while Scarlett was driving it. It was a Desert Scorpion that I admired so much. Turns out the owner of the car was none other than Scarlett herself.

Reaching the Kibea Corporations healthcare branch, I was taken to a room to do various check-ups.

"I hate places like this."

I said to Daniel in annoyance. They were already attaching many types of wires and machines to my body. Daniel chuckled hearing my comment.

"Don't worry, it won't take long. Trust me, you don't want to not be able to play [Mayhem] after becoming its first Legendary Class holder. That would suck so hard."

Scarlett said from behind Daniel. She was there the whole time, overseeing every process.

"Yeah, that's true too. I think I'll finally be able to earn some money after a while."

I said, trying to divert my own attention.

"Who are you kidding? Do you want me to believe that you can't earn money even when you want to? Seriously?"

Scarlett chuckled sarcastically at my comment as if she didn't believe me.

I didn't reply to anything, and soon, Daniel started the machine I was attached to.

"It'll make you nauseous for a while, then you'll just slee—."

I couldn't hear him complete his sentence. A sense of nausea hit me, soon my vision blurred and I passed out, again.
