Chapter 8: A Rapidly Developing Bond with Geng Geng?!
Satisfied with their efforts, Qiao Yingzi and Huang Zhitao returned to their seats.
Geng Geng, the newly transferred student, sat quietly reading her book. Having just arrived, she hadn’t had the chance to get to know her classmates yet.
“Geng Geng.”
“Huh?” Startled by the sudden call, Geng Geng quickly looked up.
“We’re desk mates now. If you ever need help, just let me know,” Su Bai said with a warm smile.
Both new to the school, they had been assigned to share a desk. In school life, everyone has that one unforgettable deskmate of the opposite gender, and Geng Geng was positive that her new school life might turn out to be exciting after all.
Su Bai’s smile was infectious, so she smiled back.
“Looks like we’re in this together. Let’s help each other out when needed,” she said.
“Deal,” Su Bai replied.
As they chatted, Su Bai extended his hand.
“How about we seal the deal with a pinky promise?”
“Alright, pinky promise!”
When their hands clasped for that brief moment, their budding friendship seemed to solidify. This small gesture instantly closed the gap between them.
Although they had just met, it felt as though the barriers between them had disappeared.
’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’
Su Bai’s first day at Spring Breeze High ended on a positive note. Despite being busy, it was anything but uneventful.
In just one day, he had gone through the entirety of the high school curriculum.
Fortunately, the original owner of his body had lived abroad, so no one in China had any expectations regarding his academic abilities.
The significant differences between international and domestic curricula meant that even if Su Bai performed exceptionally well, it wouldn’t arouse suspicion.
“Su Bai, let’s head home,” Qiao Yingzi said as she approached him after packing her things.
Realising he had crossed a line, Fang Yifan tried to backtrack, but Su Bai interjected with a smirk.
“You might not even make it to the next exam—didn’t Li Meng suggest you might need to repeat the year? I wonder what your mum will decide.”
Caught off guard, Fang Yifan stumbled over his words.
“Stop making things up! There’s no way I’ll repeat the year,” he retorted.
The idea of repeating a year was humiliating enough, but having it mentioned in front of Su Bai and his crush was unbearable.
The reactions from Qiao Yingzi and Huang Zhitao only made things worse.
“Wait, Yifan, are you really repeating a year?”
“Well, considering your grades, it wouldn’t be surprising,” Huang Zhitao added.
“That’s nonsense! Don’t listen to Su Bai,” Fang Yifan stammered. Spying his mother waiting near the school gate, he hurried off to clarify things with her.
To him, ensuring he wouldn’t be held back was more pressing than anything else—even more than the birthday gift he had planned for Li Meng.
As the group exited the school, they were greeted by Tong Wenjie and Fang Yifan at the gate.
“Yingzi, Su Bai—hello!” Tong Wenjie called out cheerfully.
“Auntie, what brings you here?”
Grinning, Qiao Yingzi walked over to greet her. Their familiarity with each other was evident.
“I spoke with your mum earlier. We’re heading to your place, so I’m waiting here to join you,” Tong Wenjie explained.
Qiao Yingzi immediately understood her intentions.
Clearly, Tong Wenjie was planning to discuss Fang Yifan’s academic issues with her mother.
After all, Song Qian was not only a former teacher at Spring Breeze High but also the owner of a tutoring centre at Shuxiang Yayuan.
Naturally, Tong Wenjie sought her advice on the matter.
“Alright, Auntie, let’s go together,” Qiao Yingzi said with a smile.
With that, the group set off for Shuxiang Yayuan.
